  1. This sounds like a blast. I only have a couple of items and don't need a whole table. If there is someone you know of who would like to partner up let me know. Thanks Bud
  2. Ok. Thanks. I am just trying to keep on top of what is going on over there. I plan to take you up on your offer to meet me there sometime. Especially catching some flats on fly rod. That sounds line real fun. Bud
  3. WOW. Sounds like you had a great time today. I almost came down now after reading your report I wish I had. Ohh well thats how it goes, coulda, woulda, shoulda, didn't.
  4. MTM: You are right this is a good site. Lots of people who fish different equipment and for different fish here. You are right people can get to be awfully clickish. I dont think that will really be a problem here on this site Bud
  5. Yeah you are right. Best to be there before the report. I plan to go somewhere either tomorrow or Friday. Trying to decide where. May end up down Taney way. Would like to go somewhere and catch some eyes.
  6. Congradulations Joe. Sounds like you started out with a really nice outfit. You gotta have some scuds and wollys in various colors. )
  7. Anything being caught in the Neosho? Bud
  8. I reckon I will try to go fishing again tomorrow - if company don't show up again. Anyone know where I can get an in-law proof door? If I make it out I will post a report on where an when. Bud
  9. Anyone know if anything is being caught in the tailrace? Bud
  10. Hey Jenny: Any fish being picked up in the tailrace? Bud
  11. What colors were you using? Did you catch many Walleye? Any size to em?
  12. I like to fish with what I call natural colors. Olives, tans ect. It would be interesting to see what colors show up on Phils underwater cam.
  13. WOW! Looks like you had a great time. I have never caught anything like that. Did ya bring any steaks home? Bud
  14. I figure they probably do read it. What I wonder is what they think when they do. A lot of what I post are talking points. It doesn't do a lot of good to have a forum it no one is talking and if everyone is in 100% agreement then there isn't much need to have a forum either. So I try to post things that will get people talking. Sometimes it works sometimes it don't.
  15. MoBass: Thanks for the report. I may come down that way fishin in the next few days. I wouln't mind catchin some Taney Sucker myself. The most carp I have gotten into around here has been on Pomme at the boat dock in the state park. I was up there looking for some 'gills when I started catching Carp. I caught eleven in about 3 hours on my ultra light; one weighted about 25 lbs. Took almost 30 min to land him. What a blast. Whole Wheat and Cheddar Cheese crackers with just enough olive oil to make a good firm dough ball. Bud
  16. Well I have about exhausted all of the talking points I can come up with on this subject. I have to say It has been informative, certainly interesting and at times downright humorous Incredibly there has also been more than 2000 hits on this topic which I think shows the incredible amount of passion people have for the fishery. With this kind of passion I don't think Taney is in any immenent danger of going extinct. It is true that I like to fish for trout and like you all I am intrested in the future of the fishery however, my real preference is RedEar or when I can find them big Bluegill. There is nothing quiet like catching a 2 lb RedEar on a 2 or 3 wt outfit. Hope to see you on the water sometime.
  17. Good info and that is a lot of fish. I will definatly have to give it a try.
  18. Pete: I fished Bushwacker years ago. Back in them days there were lots of fish but all of them were small. I am glad to hear there are large ones in there now. I will go up that way and give them a try this spring. Nothing puts up a fight like a 2 lb RedEar on an ultralight outfit or a 3/4 wt fly rod. ) Thanks for the info Bud
  19. I think you stumbled on the anwer. Heh heh
  20. The "supply/demand aspects" of Taney mentioned above that Heyduke-2-0 talked about are more specific to what I was saying about keeping smaller trout. Of course when we talk about carrying capacity it is not only trout that is involved in the bio-mass at Taney it is also White Sucker, Redhorse, Carp, Bluegill, Bass, Crappie and all the other species of fish that compete for the available food in Taney. This is a more complicated issue than just saying if they would simply do this one thing it would fix all the problems with the fishery. It would be nice if it were that simple. Taney is a unique fishery that cannot be compared to other fisheries around the country or world for that matter. As I said before it is a man made fishery and therefore the fish that go in and the fish that come out must be maintained by man. As to people looking at my fish, I don't mind. I myself am guilty of looking at other peoples fish however, when I look at them I don't immediatly grab for a ruler to see if it may be 1/16 inch out of slot. What I don't like is the automatic assumption that I am doing something wrong if I keep a fish I don't like being repeatedly hassled by people if I decide to keep a legal fish. A perfect example of what I am talking about is in Gregs post above where it was automatically assumed he was with another fisherman and doing something wrong - when he wasn't. What I especially hate however are people who try to use the law to enforce a C&R zone that doesn't exist. They waste my time, their time and more importantly they waste the Game Warden's time. The last couple of times I have fished the trophy area I have felt like I was under a microscope and was always looking over my shoulder to see who was staring at me. I didn't like that feeling so I found another place to fish. I haven't fished the trophy area for a while and doubt that I will again. When I fish I want to relax and have a good time. If I and everyone else on the stream have to be policemen then it isn't possible to just relax and have a good time.
  21. JS: No, I am not trying to tell you that at all. Obviously if big fish are being kept on every cast then people are going to come to fish. I am saying I have no problem with making the upper mile or 2 C&R only as long as it is kept within reason and as long as it is discussed and studied out beforehand. It should be determined what is best to create a good fishery not necessarly what is best for one group of fishermen or another. If that means limiting fishing pressure in the fall when fish are vunerable then fall fishing should be limited. If it means making heavier tippets the law then they should be the law. If it means keeping some of the smaller fish out then some smaller fish should be kept. That is all I am trying to say. I agree with you about the west, I have fished out west a few times myself. People go their because the area is famous. There is one big difference between Taney and out west - that is that Taney is a man made trout fishery not a natural fishery. Another thing I am talking about is that a lot of C&R fishermen think they are better stewards of the trout than fishermen who keep fish. I don't know what the actual mortality rate is for C&R trout but I would imagine that a person who catches 40 or 50 fish in a day will kill just as many trout as a person who catches and keeps 4. Especially in the fall. Actually they will probably kill more because a fisherman who keeps fish more than likley only fishes occasionally. Most C&R fishermen fish a lot. I really don't have a problem making the area discussed C&R at all if that is what is determined by the MDC to be the best thing, I am in full support of it. On the other hand if the MDC determines that smaller fish need to be kept to make the fishery better then C&R fishermen should thank them rather than look down on their nose at them because they would actually be making the fishery better for everyone. This topic is one of high emotion. I certainly do not mean to make anyone mad and am not mad myself. My position is that this is an issue which needs to be decided the facts of what is best for the trout fishery, not on emotions.
  22. Hi JBird: Welcome to the forum. I would like to know more about Striper fishing on Beaver. The wheres and whens would be great. I have caught a few Stripers and Hybrids but would like to know more about specifically tageting these fish. They are AWESOME fighters. Bud
  23. I regularly fish Stockton for Walleye. It seems to me because of water clairity and slightly cooler temps TR would be a better lake for walleye. I like walleye and would certailnly like to know more about when and where to fish for them on TR and would like to see MDC expand upon that fishery in TR. But then, I would like to see them expand on the Hybrid fishery too. Bud
  24. As they say the best laid plans of men and mice........... Had company today that hung around like Sadies drawers so I didn't get to go fishing. Guess there is always tomorrow. Like Butts says "so many fish, so little time" Bud
  25. I go out there once in a while. Have never caught a RedEar there. Caught a few gills and a crappie and a couple of Muskie. It is really really low now. Needs some water bad. Will be going there again soon. Probably tomorrow. WIll let you know if I catch anything. Bud
