  2. 5 ft over-all raise is a lot of water. I think if they tried to sustain that much of a raise it would be disastrous. An additional 5 foot at flood stage????
  3. BEIJING (Reuters) -- China on Tuesday sentenced the former head of its food and drugs agency to death for corruption in a surprise judgment as the government sought to contain a wave of scandals over health safety. Zheng Xiaoyu, former head of the State Food and Drug Administration, was convicted on charges of taking bribes and dereliction of duty, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Beijing Municipal No. 1 Intermediate People's Court. Former head of the State Food and Drug Administration Zheng Xiaoyu, 62, was sentenced to death by the Chinese government Tuesday for accepting bribes and dereliction of duty. The sentence, which was unusually harsh, could still be reduced on appeal. But it reflects the weight China's top leaders are giving to the issues of corruption and food safety as they grapple with the fallout overseas after a series of safety breaches involving toxins in food and other products. "Zheng was supposed to use the power given to him by the state and the people seriously and honestly, but instead he has ignored their vital interests... by taking the bribes," Xinhua quoted the court as saying.
  4. I just didn't figure anything under 100+ feet as being a craft worthy of visiting foreign ports. It was a DUH moment. Foreign ports could be Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas ect. I was thinking more along the lines of visiting Europe or Spain.
  5. Welcome to the nut house. Wade right in and get after em. Watch out for Beason. He sees giant squid at Taney. Sometimes he exagerates just like a fisherman!!
  6. Might be a thought. kinda like a mini 'gill tourney.
  7. If a boat is big enough to visit foreign ports is it doing on a lake the size of LOZ, mentioned above? Not picking on you Wayne you are just the one who mentioned foreign ports so your post was handy.
  8. No, no,no. You still got it wrong. You gotta drive around with your windows down to improve your fishing success. You gotta drive around with the windows down so you can gather up bugs to use for bait.
  9. I wonder what fair price for gas should actually be. I have seen the warped version of adjusting for inflation where prices from the late 70's and early 80s was used as a starting point. The problem with that is the starting prices were inflated so it doesn't reflect an accurate picture. I wonder what they should be if we were to use 1987 prices as a starting point and adjusting for inflation to the current date.
  10. I support what he is doing. He is right. Gas prices are just ridiculous. I am protesting gas prices by staying home this holiday weekend. Unless something really unexpected comes up I am parking my vehicles tonight and they will not move until Tuesday. We are going to burn some burgers in the back yard instead of going to the lake like we usually do. Not only will the gas stations lose out on any sales to me the state will lose out on any tax revenues generated by my going to the lake. Of course I am just one person and that wont make much difference, I only hope there are a lot more who will do the same thing I am.
  11. I have to agree with SilverMallard on this one. That is a horribly unethical business practice. In fact I am reasonably sure when it comes right down to it this practice is illegal.
  12. I think if we want to do this we need to pick a location and date. I don't know what the most central location would be for most people. I think either Stockton or TR would be good choices. I have had good luck catching gills at both locations and occasionally catch a Redear on the Rock. The date should probably be on a weekend so more people could attend something like the first or second weekend in June. Anyone who wants to attend let me know what you think about the locations and dates.
  13. Terry: Heh heh hehh....You said 'assume' Seriously did you swallow a calculator or something? From the limited information on this post what would you say the percentage of people who are actually hurt by gas prices is compared to the number of people who are just annoyed by gas prices?
  14. I dont think that is the spirit of the code. The code means you aren't supposed to pursue an unlisted animal for the sole intent of killing it. My opinion tho is hang the code. If a Snake, Scorpion, Wasp or any other stinging, venomous or biting creature enters my personal space it is either ran off or dead. If it is out in the woods not bothering me then I won't bother it.
  15. They make a really good Bluegill rod.
  16. I know what yo mean drew. My main driver is a colt. Got a HUGE 1.5L 4 banger in it. City driving it gets about 38 mpg. On the highway I normally get about 44 or 45. Makes me about cry when I have to put $35 worth of gas in it. I thought about selling it and buying something a little nicer a time or two but with gas prices like they are I am glad I haven't.
  17. I'm also thinking of giving up driving the big Dodge 4x4 down the driveway to get the mail and walk instead... That shouldn't be too difficult a walk since my driveway is only 30 feet long... laugh.gif I know what you mean. I had to give up driving my monster truck even tho it wasn't really all that bad at 3 gallons to the mile.
  18. Catman: Nice Blue. Where did you catch it? Looks like a Osage river Blue to me.
  19. How are you dealing with the current gasoline prices? Are you driving less, spending less on other items so you can keep on driving, did you buy a more fuel efficient car or are you charging it? If the prices don't bother you we don't really need to hear from you.
  20. There are no fish in Fellows Lake..........There are no fish in Fellows Lake.......You are getting very sleepy...........There are no fish.....
  21. No doubt our national philosophy has changed. Used to be if a person could become a millionaire in 20 or 30 years they were happy. Now they want to do it if 5 years and retire in 20 years. Nobody is in it for the long haul anymore. Problem with this philosophy is nothing is sacred anymore, everything is for sale; even our tomorrows. Eventually there will be nothing left to sell, nothing to build on and our tomorrows will all be sold....then what.
  22. That is a nice longear. If I remember correctly the record Longear is only a little over a pound. Keep training him and you will have a fishing partner for life. I have 4 kids, all grown, but none of them care to fish.
  23. The upper right hand picture is a Longea. The one in the on the lower right is a Green Sunfish and the two on the left are bluegill. Looks like you got a good fishing partner there.
  24. We would have to figure out where we would want to have it. I like Stockton for Bluegill or Bushwhacker for Redear. Ducky already said he likes Columbia. What are some other ideas? I am all for having a bluegill fish fry. Would be a blast.
  25. Why let the trout, crappie and bass fishermen have all the fun with get togethers and mini tourneys ect? I know there are a lot of bluegill fishermen out there so why not have our own get to know each other day? What does everyone think?
