  1. Daddy-0, I prefer the 4pc rods for ease of transportation. I fish a 4pc 9ft 8wt for stripers and it works well. I have the TFO TiCr. Steve
  2. cc, You can access Indian Creek at the City Park in Lanagan, There are a few good holes in the park, and more both upstream and downstream of the park. Indian Summer Camp Ground may let you access the creek for a small fee. I know that they used to. There is a public access on the Elk called Mt Shira, I beleive. Steve
  3. It's good to hear that Tar Creek is able to support fish once again. When I was a young man it was an excellent crappie/white bass fishery until it got polluted by runoff from the lead and zinc mines. The last time I was there the water was orange and even the vegetation on the banks was dead. Steve
  4. I got down there around 2:00 or so and got in 30-45 minutes of fishing before I noticed that the water was rising. Caught this one just before I left I also caught a decent hybrid and a couple of white bass earlier, and missed a couple of strikes. Steve
  5. Kyle, The biots are found on the leading edge of the wing primaries. I have some canada goose primaries that I use when I need a gray biot. I have dyed some, but as cheap as they are to buy it's not really worth the trouble to dye them. as for pheasant feathers, there are many useable feathers on a pheasant. This will give you some ideas http://www.jackgartside.com/art_pheasant_feathers.htm You can get some good soft-hackle feathers from quail, and ducks have many useable feathers, too. Steve
  6. monkey, Here's a pic I tie these on #10 or #8 streamer hooks head: gold bead tail; chartreuse marabou body: chartreuse polar chenille, palmered Steve
  7. sweelcat, I have only caught the sauger by accident while striper fishing. It is my understanding that the hybrids don't occur in nature, they are hatchery produced. The hybrids that I have caught fight harder than stripers of the same size. Steve
  8. I fished a while on friday, Dec 26th. I only caught 1 small striper, 1 largemouth bass, and a few white bass. A couple of the white bass were pretty good sized. http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/ste...ristmas%20bass/ Theweekend before I only caught 1 hybrid. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/stevec53/IMG_0426.jpg The weekend before that was a little better. http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/ste...kansas%20River/ I will be hitting it pretty hard when the water is low enough to wade. Steve
  9. DaddyO, I can answer your question about the One Fly, since I've fished a few. The Talequah club furnishes the flies. You pay your $5 and they give you a fly, which is the only fly that you can use in the tournament. The $5 entry fee also gets you a lunch of good home-made chili. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this one since I have a family thing to attend that day. Steve
  10. Jim, Nice fish! Steve
  11. Jim, I have fish the Zink dam area the past 4 weekends. Last Sunday I only caught 1 nice hybrid. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/stevec53/IMG_0426.jpg The weekend before was better. I caught a few stripers, 1 hybrid, 3 LMB, and a nice drum. http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/ste...kansas%20River/ I got skunked the previous 2 weekends. I think it was partially because the water temperature was much lower. Steve
  12. I got to see John Prine last night at the historic Brady Theater here in Tulsa. I have listened to his stuff for years but this was my first time to see him in concert. It was definately worth going to. Steve
  13. I know of at least 4 members of TFF that will be down there in the morning. I will probably head the other direction and fish Lake Pawhuska or maybe Lake Yahola. I hear that the walleyes are moving in to the banks at Yahola. Steve
  14. The trout tournament was cancelled because of poor conditions on the river. The trip to Lake pawhuske is Nov 15. You can get information about TFF's outings here http://www.tulsaflyfishers.org./ Steve
  15. The Beaver tailwater in AR is another option. It is about 30 minutes closer than Roaring River. If you get blown out there, you can drive over to RR. If you don't mind stillwater fishing you can go to Lake Pawhuska. It is a little over an hour drive from Tulsa. Steve
  16. Bad news on the LI. I received this yesterday Hey Scott, Just wanted to let you guys know that temperatures in the lake are still roughly 72 on the surface and 70 on the bottom. Temperatures in the trout stream are a couple of degrees warmer than that. When we will be able to resume stocking is still unknown but it doesn’t look like it will be very soon. We are planning for another press release to notify everyone. Please pass along. Thanks, Jim Burroughs
  17. There has been too much generation to wade for a few weeks now. The last I heard, the water temps are still too high to stock trout. That will change when lake Tenkiller turns over, which could be any day now. Steve
  18. I saw him 13 or 14 years ago when he was in the band "Bloodlines". He is a very talented guitar player. I also saw Kenny Wayne Shepherd a couple of years ago. Another talented young man. Steve
  19. The above mentioned flies all work at times. This fly has worked very well for stripors and hybrids in the Arkansas River here I also tie it in chartreuse over white for stained water. Steve
  20. We are seeing some low water below Keystone on the weekends. The area below Zink dam is loaded up with gar and paddlefish. It is almost impossible to cast without hitting a paddlefish. The only other fish that I caught was one nice crappie. I was surprised to catch it on a 5" long 3/0 streamer. I also saw a drum and 2 spotted bass caught, but no stripers this time. Steve
  21. The water temps are still in the 70's, and probably will be until Lake Tenkiller turns over. Steve

  23. The area on this map that is designated as "fee area" is the Watts property. http://www.tenkiller.net/lowermap.htm That is an old map, so it is no longer a fee area. Steve
  24. Zach, That makes sense. They have started stocking larger fish at the old Watts property, though. I usually fish heavier tippet down there because the trout don't seem to mind, and you never know when you might hook a striper, big drum, catfish. etc. The Lower Illinois is like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, you never know what you'll get. Steve
  25. Zach, I am curious as to why you use 2 lb test down there. I seldom use lighter than 6 lb and I catch plenty of fish. and can land the bigger ones easily. Steve
