This question is for those that boat the lake and know it well. I have a nitro fish and ski (fiberglass) w/125hp outboard. I have never been on taneycomo in a boat, but now that I have one I would like to boat and see the lake. So, that being said can someone tell me how safe would it be with a fiberglass boat and how far can i expect to go up and down the lake from lilleys landing? Are there boulders or any other obstructions I should watch for in the main channel. How deep is it running up to the dam? I watched a recent video of Phil running to the dam bu i believe that was when the lake was up. so any advise would be greatly appreciated by me and my insurance company. lol Brian

Bignick, Hello thanks for the montauk blog. I myself have fished this since I was a little guy. Love the park and fish it often. My duahgters and wife have even started up the fishing with their own waders and poles and the other $$$$$ it takes to get started. Anyways I see you are heading down in Sept and if your looking for someone to hook up on the stream shoot me a message and maybe if I'm off at the firehouse we could catch them together. I work a 48 hr shift and then off 96 hrs so lots of time to get there. im 3 hrs out and I drive it for the day once in awhile. let me know how you do if not. NO hard feelings here just good stories. we went down this past weekend. the fishing was great! oh did i mention it was kids fishing weekend and they stocked it 3 times durying the day. anyways outside of the kids hole the park stream was up and moving very fast. we had to use heavier weights to get the bait down or otherwise it just moved past the spot. there are some good holes just move around. the fish were biting good and not all were nice size. typical stockers. color to work best was white. then pale yellow or bright orange in dough bait and a black and yellow jig. fireman

hey guys and gals, I will be heading down to montauk with the family and I was wondering how to get to the access points of the current outside the park. I know where the first one is off the gravel road past the red house at the end of the park but where are baptist camp and the others and how long of a drive is it. I will be needing this info as know my daughters 13 and 9 and the wife have all purchased waders for the first time and I need a get-a-way place while they stay back so i can get my sanity back. lol. not looking for your holes but just some pointers I love to find spots myself. thats half the fun or frustration as i call it really. thank for all your help. fireman92

went to montauk on 9/26 to oct 1 2006. fish were small during week and then boom nice average size were released on teh weekend. water levels were extremely low. fishing was little ruff but still took my daughters out for the first time and they both caught their limit. how proud i was because they did the casting and they reeled them in while i landed them. brook off quite a few but still weather was great. temps were in the mid 30's in the AM and high 70's daytime. there seems to be less and less fishing wholes and i would like to see some dredging or something to insure great fishing in the future. fireman

Drew, well first let me say hello. I fish montauk about 4 times a year. i have been fishing it for many years. as I think montauk is the best of all the missouri trout parks dont forget about fishing out of montauk. there is some of the best fishing there for browns and rainbows. montauk is a great park in itself. good camping, cabins, hotel, and restuarant/store. also there is playgrounds and the hatchery for the kids. now on the fishing, great fly fishing in the park with a catch and release area and a keep area. later if you would like to fish the rest of the park there is plenty of areas to fish with a fly rod or spinning rod. by all means i am only a novice at best at fly fishing. still trying to learn the presentations on each different flies. if you have kids there is also great areas for them to fish as well. swimming is not allowed in the park but there is swimming outside of the park about 1 mile down the road. now for the drive from KC. dont know how long it takes from KC to montauk (est 4 hrs 45 min) i wonder why you choose montauk instead of lake taneycomo in Branson MO. dont get me wrong but taneycomo is alot better fly fishing and it offers all types of activities there. have you been to taneycomo? if you havent i would stay at lillies landing as it is the cleanest and necest of all the lake resorts ive seen and been too. great prices too. im not saying this because this is his site but it is the best. i have a travel trailer and refuse to take it down there as lillies offers just as much as the campgrounds on the lake and i dont have to pull the stupid thing. so if you would like let me know when you might be at montauk and myabe i will be there and we could hook up or at least i could show you a few spots. anyways i hope this helps you out. our next scheduled trip to montauk is sept 26- oct 1. fireman
