  1. The fishing was not spectacular, but fish were caught. I had 9 trout in total over my time there. Not sure what the problem is, but it was much slower than in years past. I fished in the Many Islands area, and the two pools of water north of there. Caught just about everything on a blue fox inline spinner that has a royal blue, and neon yellow color to it mixed in with the chrome. Powerbait and salmon eggs caught a couple, but i didn't try hard with those. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try my best to respond.
  2. to all the people that read this board? well I'm headed to the Spring on Wednesday morning. Coming from 8hrs away in KY. If anyone gets a moment to share any recent fishing info it would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Does anyone have anything to speak of? Thanks
  4. Anyone been fishing?
  5. Can you rent a canoe from Many islands and go towards Hardy?
  6. Can anyone tell me their thoughts on fishing the Many Islands area, and the areas south of there, and best ways to access? Thanks
  7. Just wanted to check in and see if anyone has heard how things went over the holiday weekend? Were the law enforcement folks out in force, and succesful with their agenda? Thanks
  8. The issue really seems to be those that have a total lack of class, and disregard for all around including themselves. I understand the thought of not going someplace because you know it's not safe, party haven, yada yada yada.... The Spring River is a natural resource like no other I've been able to experience. I'm from KY and driving 8 hours. I'm driving those 8 hrs becasue there is no natural resource on par with the Spring in KY, IN, OH, TN, etc... The Spring River is like an awesome sand castle, and all these yahoos causing problems are the hurricane. I agree something must be done to save the sand castle from the raging hurricane, or a rare resource will be ruined forever. I really want to take my kids, and hopefully grandkids there one day. I'm just sad that the situation has come to this and that law enforcement has to harrass everyone in hopes that they weed out the masses of drunks, drug users, whatever.
  9. To drive 8 hrs and spend my valubale vacation time and money in a police stake out zone isn't very inticing. I'm no hell raiser, and don't want the local Barney Fife's treating me like one because they have an agenda. I guess I will hold onto hope and see how things progress over the next month, but I fear a change in destination may be in order.
  10. Well I'm glad to see that local leaders care enough about their natural resource to stop the erosion. I'm coming from central KY for a four night stay in June. I do plan on drinking plenty of cold beer, fishing, and canoing. Some of these posts kinda have me worried...Is my camp going to be intruded by police 10 times a day, 4 days straight? Will I get locked up for drinking beer while fishing? Any input is appreciated. I'm no hell raiser, but I don't want to spend my vacation being treated like one either! Thanks
  11. I'm not using a fly rod. So, the power baits are an option. What about retrieving an inline spinner in deep holes, or against steep drops?
  12. I'm looking at a trip in May and July. I pray the weather cooperates! Can any of you elaborate on how to fish the deeper holes? These areas seem to be the most difficult to figure out. Thank You
  13. Guys, I wonder if renting a canoe and going from Dam 3 to Many Islands would be a wise approach to fishing the many angles this river presents? I would be able to stop and hit each of the falls and also get in those deeper holes
  14. All of this talk about trout and the river have sent me over the edge. So, now I'm coming down the 1st week of May to fish while the summer crazies aren't there. I'm still going to make the trip in July as well
  15. Brian, Much thanks! This is kinda putting the scene together for me. When you fish do you concentrate on the fast moving water, or deeper slow moving holes?
  16. Brian, Where is Many islands on the map in relation to Bayou Access and the spot marked "end of trout waters" Thanks!
  17. Guys, These tips are great, and please keep them coming. I'm only familiar with getting to Many Islands and do not recognize the name Bayou Access or 11 point. Is there a good detailed map I can get that will have road access and other key points noted for direction? I understand what you guys are saying about the weekend scene. I have been before and I was amazed/shocked/taken for surprise. I have seen some scenes like that on major lakes in coves, but not an entire river. When I first went it was because of the party and canoing. But, after I got the chance to see all that and then realize what the more peaceful times on the river are about I wanted to take in some fishing. Due to work and school July is the only time I can go. It is quite an ethical dilemma the local community faces. Run off the trouble and sacrifice profit, or keep the profits coming and continue to deteriorate a rare asset.
  18. Hello, I will be camping at Many Islands the last weekend of July. I will be fishing on a Thursday and Friday, and then doing a canoe float on Saturday. Can anyone give me any pointers on what the best methods are to fish for trout? I'm interested in the rainbow and brown variety. I will be using a spin reel. Since I'm driving 8 plus hours from KY any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. I would like to make the best of my very limited time. Thank You in advance!
