  2. no pictures, just unhooked him, measured, admired and eased him back into the water. It was a fat healthy fish.
  3. Just got a new 5wt St Croix rod and went looking for some big bluegill( to no avail). I was using a pink micro jig, 4 lb tippet, under a float set at 18". The float went under, I set the hook and it was off to the races. I was in the boat and had to chase it with the trolling motor. It took maybe 15 minutes to get him in the net. The fish was 32 inches long I don't know how much it weighed but it sure put up a good fight. What a fish to break in a new rod!!!
  4. fished out of K dock from 5:30 till dark. Used worms caught @ 12 ktuckies,6-13" and two eyes one 13 one 17" fished 20' to 13' was hoping to locate some bluegill but no luck. vince
  5. Fished May 30 night into the morning of the 31. Set out submerged light in the long creek area off of a point, in thirty ft of water. Bait fish were slow to show up and never did get thick, used jigs and shad. Caught 7 crappie and 2 whites it sure was slow, I stayed all night hoping that it would pick up but it never did. vince
  6. Bill, there weren't any gravel bars showning below the bridge, but they may have been just below the waters surface. Vince
  7. Congrats Michael, My baby girl is now 17, she is still my little princess. Kids are great, enjoy them. Vince
  8. Bill, Nice striper that John got, can't wait to stick one on a fly, thanks for taking the time to report on your trips. Hopefullyby the end of Mar I'll be able to chase after them. Vince
  9. Bill, the shallowest water I saw on the depth gauge was 5ft I wasn't running the boat so I imagine he was keeping it in runable water. The only waders I saw was when we got to the bridge, we saw three above the bridge. We didnt stay there but went back down. I think above would have some good water to fly fish in. Vince
  10. John we stayed below hwy 10 bridge. Vince
  11. Fished Sat put in at twin bridges and went up. Caught whites in water from 20ft to 3ft. Fished jigs, hair and rubber, best colors white or chart. Caught lots of fish, from 6in to @ 2 1/2pds. More 6 to 10 inch fish with several larger mixed in. vince.
  12. Bill, thanks I'll report when we get back. Vince
  13. Am planning to put in at twin bridges this sat any help with the whites or crappie would be appreciated. vince
  14. Started down from Lilley's fishing stick baits, one 17" brown and two smaller. Switched to jigs but it was so windy had trouble detecting strikes. Went up above short crk and fish jig and float and caught several on sculpin color. next went above fall crk and fished the same way. The fishing was hot right before dark. vince.
  15. Lilleys also carries fly rods and reels. They carry temple fork rods a quality rod at a good price. They can set you up with rod, reel, line, backing the whole set up. Also carry a great inventory of fly tying materials. Vince Lilleys also carries fly rods and reels. They carry temple fork rods a quality rod at a good price. 16. "Thanks for the reports don't get that way often, but when I go it's like starting from scratch. I usually look for whites but also welcome the walleye. Vince
  17. I've yet to catch my first wiper or striper on fly rod, and I am looking forward to it. I've caught wipers below Truman and stripers below the dam at Texoma and you guys are right it gets in your blood. Nothing like feeling the tap and setting the hook on a runaway train. It's great , hard to imagine it on a fly rod, well yes I can imagine theline and backing burning through the guides. Truman is a great fishery but can be very crowded and frustrating to fish. I'm excited about this striper site. Vince

    Trout for the table

If I take them home I fillet them. If I fix them for shore lunch I keep small trout and fry them whole. To clean them I slit them from just below the gills to their bottom hole, then slid my index finger in the slit up under the gills and pop them and the guts out. Next bend the head back and push the body of the trout out of the skin then cut tail off and pull fins out. Once you get the hang of this it is almost as fast as filleting. I usually start my frier before cleaning fish, after rinsing them, drop them in a zip lock bag with cornmeal, salt and pepper and their ready to fry. The meat pulls easily away from the bones. They are usually ready to eat in less than 30 minutes . Vince
  19. Bill I don't think it would be healthy for the fish. I believe fish continue to move upstream to an extent when they run water. It seems there wouldn't be enough food for the fish if some weren't removed. If you want more trophies would it be better to release everything over 12" and just keep the smaller fish? I don't know I guess it depends on the food base. I know that fish move down stream too because the browns move up and them back down after the spawn. vince
  20. Fished yesterday from nine till 12:30 fished from middle of trophy area down to short creek. Did best in trophy area only no trophys mostly small fish. Fished jigs and midges under a float, used gray, brown, black and yellow and olive. Bites were very light and they liked olive best. Good luck. vince
  21. Fished yesterday from 3pm till dark, had my son with me who wanted to do some exploring so we parked at boat ramp and walked down to lookout. Lots of area to roam down there while I fished. Started out fishing a gray scud caught @ 20 fish mostly small. Wind died down right before dark went to a midge and caught a half dozen more. It was a great afternoon. vince
