"Vaulued opinions on equipment......." Just don't ask Mr. Beeson's opinion on pick ups!!! I use the magentic holder too...but you guys have inspired me to try something new...hanging it in the handle down position. I can see how this would be more convenient as well as result in fewer snags in the brush when I'm stalking the wild, elusive Dink! One question - where do I attach the magnet - to the outside rim opposite the handle??? David PS....I appreciate the comic relief also!
-
OOOHHHH....D-ring....now THAT makes sense!
-
".......I attached one end of the magnet to my dink" OK, again I realize that I'm new to fly fishing (been slingin' bugs now for about 8 or 9 months) but I'm confused once again! I thought that a "dink" was a small......fish. Guess it could be generalized to mean....small........anything? David

I think I found SIO3s favorite rod!

I think we've created a monster...MUAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Terry Beeson aka The Dinkmeister (with the Hemi)!!! David -
Sorry....didn't mean to hijack this thread! Aren't rubber nets supposed to remove less slime from fish and therefore be more conducive to long-term survival of released fish? I would imagine that this should be a concern when buying a net for landing fish. I was in the Local Wally World last night and they have wooden handled nets with small shallow bags for like 6 bucks. The bag was knotted cord - not rubber and the mesh was very open. Looked to me to be ripe for snags! Hey Terry......"It's just that SOME of us don't have to catch BIG fish to make up for short-comings in other areas".......HHHmmmm.........I bet thats why your truck has a HEMI.....isn't it??? David

I wonder if being a "dinkmeister" has anything to do with driving a Dodge truck? All hale the Dinkmeister!!! David
-
".......Dink is vernacular for small fish." OOOhhhh....so that's why I couldn't find it! Dang...and I wasted all that time googling "dink." I carry a net, but don't know why. I've become, like dano, a dink specialist! David

I realize that I am a relative newbie to this forum and to fly fishing in general.....and I have searched game fish guides...high and low....but I cannot locate a species of fish known as a 'dink." Local variety? Easily caught on the long rod? David

Just in case anyone is interested....... http://www.dorber.com/flyrods.html David

Hey Terry.... Think that my FORD truck will make it all the way from FT Leonard Wood to Flippin??? David
-
CC.... I've seen the Dorber website. How can an interested prospective fly stick waver get their slimy hands on one of their sticks? Do they only sell online? Thanks, David
-
Round two? Buy a Ford!!! David
-
......made in America vs. made overseas..... That's an arguement that I wouldn't touch...even if you begged me. David

Vic, I never got the PM. David

I can see that this "serious" discussion is deteriorating rapidly!! Dodge = Dead On Da Ground Everyday
-
Oh COME ON Terry.... EVERYONE knows that the FORD F-150 is a "BETTER" truck than Dodge!!! Hell, I even have a Hobbs Creek 9' 5wt from BASS Pro Shop that I learned on that I still like. David
-
"Yep there's a rod for everyone out there _ or more than one LOL" Ain't that the truth!!!.....My "current" favorite is my little Echo Classic 3 wt. But when I move to Texas this year I am anticipating finding some bigger water. Hmmmm.....the ST Croix Avid 9' 7wt looks nice...or the ST Croix Legend Ultra 9' 7WT.....then there are the fine rods from TFO like the Professional or the TiCr and the TiCr X.....then Sages, Winstons, or maybe a custom fiberglass build??...sooo many choices! David

Thanks CC. My point exactly.

I'll be interested in reading the responses to this question. I think that anyone who says a certain rod is "better" without taking into account individual preference is engaging in marketing. It's my humble opinion that rod buying decisions should be a personal endeavor - undertaken only after test casting each rod in question. Given a particular brand and model of rod, what works for one angler may or may not work for another. All depends on personal casting style, individual likes and dislikes, fishing style, etc etc etc. I would suggest you hold each rod, feel its weight and balance, look at the finish, mount the reel that you want to use on a sample of each, tie on a representative fly that you might use and cast each until you have formed an opinion and are comfortable with that rod and opinion. Then go fishing!!! I think that catching fish isn't the hardest part of fly flinging - the most difficult aspect of fly fishing is resisting marketing hype!!! My .02 cents.... David

So....did you go? I'm not usually a "fair weather fisherman" but the wind was a bit too much combined with the 34 degree temps at the house. I'll catch you next time! David

You think that if we get the predicted 2 inches of rain on Saturday that the Little Piney will still be fishable on Sunday? I've heard people say that just after a rain, with all the bugs etc washed into the water that fishing actually gets better, and I have talked to others that claim fishing deteriorates for a time after a heavy rain. I usually go to the middle access point (just after the right hand turn at the T in the dirt road) and wade upstream. There is a left bend with a downed tree and a cut bank that usually holds fish that I start at - maybe a hundred yards or so up from the parking area. Up stream from that is a right bend and a deep hole that I've caught fish out of also. I drive a white Ford F-150 pick up with Texas plates. If it isn't actually raining on Sunday I will probably try to get out on the water sometime around noon for at least a few hours. David

Latest reports says cats and dogs will be a'comin' down. I'm there otherwise armed and loaded with my little Echo 3wt! David

Dang house chores kept me close to home today! Trying to sell the house in ST Robert.....maybe next weekend? David

I didn't get the Little Piney...but made it down to the Roubideaux (spelling) in Waynesville Sunday. It was full of run off and I didn't get a strike. Thinking I might go to the Piney tommorrow (Monday) - I'm off of work. David

Looking at heading down to the Little Piney this weekend. Either to the middle access point or all the way down to the Mill Dam Hollow access point. Anybody else heading out that way? David
