I fished Fellows today, had a friend call and needed a second today to help balance out the boat Well I of course said yes, and we had a good time, a bit brisk early but the fishing was good, we boated a lot of bass, I caught several on a black/white clouser and several on a chartruse clouser, Todd was catching all his bass on a 3" bass assasain plastic bait in black/silver and in a chartruse color. I did try to catch some crappie and managed to catch a few, most were under 10" but several were decent, I had two Musky follow my bait again today, one was decent size, and one was about 36" long, I really wish one would hit someday, I would love to fight one on my fly rod, I think we landed about 50 bass Todd did much better than me on the plastic baits, but I threw the fly rod, and had a good time, caught a few bluegill and lots of small bass, I had 5 that were around 15" Todd had some nice bass that were bigger and of course we didn't have a camera, I had left phone and camera in the car. Water seemed to be in good shape we could see several feet deep.

We are really experencing some nice fishing the past few weeks at Roaring River state park, the dry fly fishing is about as good as it gets around here, lots of caddis hatching everyday, blue wing olives nearly everyday and tricos in the morning and with the warming weather the ants and beetles are really working well also, good fishing all day long with green/grizzly cracklebacks, and small para adams will work all day as well. Fishing with marabou and micro jigs has been great also, the clear water makes for some real easy sight fishing, I left work a bit early yesterday and in about an hour I had 6 nice trout caught and released and several SDR's, woolybuggers are still working all day long, I use olive and black most of the time, smaller buggers work better for me in the afternoon, and I'll use the bigger buggers in the morning, fishing the jigs the best colors have been olive, black/yellow, white, ginger, and dk brown. Rooster tails are still good early in the morning,(30 minute wonders) Small crankbaits really work well also right not, baits that are 3" and smaller usually work the best. Small gold spoons, 1"-1 1/4" in length and about 1/8th of an ounce work well, I like copper or gold spoons myself. The water is very clear right now so I would suggest 2 or 3 lb line, I very seldomly use 4 or 6 lb line unless the water is dirty. Plastic worms are really good all day long, best colors are white, orange, orange/white, cheese yellow and pink, if you are using the plastic eggs, then white, hatch brown, flo. yellow and orange are your best choices. If you are fishing in zone 3 then nightcrawlers, corn, and powerbait pastes are good.

Anyone Fishign Springfield Lake?
timsfly replied to Patrick M's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I put my kayak in right at the ramp, up just above the dam, I paddled up to the first bridge, it is a rail road bridge, I caught the crappie there. I would think minnows would work, I just had my fly rod and a baitcaster, caugth the crappie on the #8 chartruse woolybugger and on the 1/64th micro jig, I had it tied in chartruse with 6 chartruse sili legs, to make it sink a bit slower, I just cast it out and let it fall about 6 feet or so, and slowly brought it back in, a few I caught on the fall, but most hit just as I was starting my retrieve. I just stripped the woolybugger in real slow and steady, caught all the bass this way, and most of the bluegill that way also, did catch a few gills on a small popper. -

I fished springfield lake this morning, caught a few crappie, lots of bluegill and a few small sized bass, caught all mine on the fly rod, used a chartruse woolybugger and a chartruse 1/80th jig for most of the fish, caught few of the gills on a small popper on top. -
You know all kidding aside, that little stream dried up for about 5 months 2 years ago, I walked it and fished It a few months ago, never saw a fish except a few minnows

Low and clear 1/2" rain last night

Not true, the park fish will gorge on cicadas, they do every time we have them in the park, it only takes a day or two and park fish, start looking around and eating the food that is available in the river, I understand why you would think that, but they start acting more like river born fish pretty quickly, some do make the transition and become very cagy, they can be as hard as any other trout in missori or arkanas to catch, but Most do wind up in the skillet. Oh, i do tie a good cicada pattern it works great in the park, and the other local streams and even in table rock everything eats the cicadas.

Roaring river is still in good shape, a bit of rain and cold weather this weekend, but the river has remained clear and the river didn't rise much, the rain had little effect on the water. Nymphing and streamer fishing was best this past weekend, the sun is out some in the afternoons and caddis and Blue wing olives have been hatching all month, the tricos are starting to show up in the mornings by next month they should be in full swing, #20-#24's are best. Griffiths gnats and small adams are also good all day, we even caught some nice trout on beetles last week. Pheasant tails, copper johns, burlaps, sow bugs, and zebra midges have been good all month. Roostertails are still pretty good early in the mornings, black, brown, and olive have been best. Marabou jigs and micro jigs are very good right now, black, olive, tan, and pink have been good. Glo-balls and san juan worms are always good, fish em about 18"-24" under an indicator, this always works. Salmon eggs in white, brown, flo. yellow and flo. orange is pretty good, cheese yellow worms, and white worms have been pretty good all month, and red worms haven't been to bad either. water is clear and about normal flow, 2 or 3 pound line is best, non florescent lines work best, braided lines and fusion lines don't work very well when the water is clear. Boy that is an old report, I wrote a new one not a week or so ago, wonder how you found this Old report? Water is normal and clear, fishing has been great, really good dry fly Fishing the past 3 weeks. I'm heading that way in just a few, going to fish all day, I love days off.

I fished the lower end this evening, used 5X fluorocarbon and a big brown bugger, caught 3 in about an hour, nothing big. I like a 6' 5wt fly rod on crane, I use a Lee Wulff fiberglass 5wt, good rod, lots of power, but has a tip that will protect light tippets.

I've got a new Porta Bote in my possesion, and a new 4 stroke 3.5 short shaft Mercury motor for sale at my shop, I'm selling this for a customer of mine, he has health problems and just wants to sell some things before he is unable to do anything. The boat is 10' long, and 5' wide at the widest point, the boat still has the plastic wrap on the hull, it has been assembled once, but has never been in the water. price is 1400.00 for all of it, he has the wheels, and the RV package with this boat. got to www.portabote.com for more info I'm going to assemble it in a day or two and take some pics.

Caught the first 30 or so on a deer hair pellet fly, up by the hatchery, that got old kinda quick so I went into the C&R area, it was great, caddis, blue wing olives and griffiths gnats worked really well, I only landed another 10 fish but the last one was a nice 4lb 20" er I caught on a brown beetle. Then I fished Crane on the way home, fished just below the ball park and caught 5 in about an hour of so of fishing, buggers and san juan worms worked best for me at Crane today, saw 4 deer, and I think they were attack deer, because they nearly ran me down Here is the fat little rainbow I caught at R.R. this morning.

That is a nice Crane Creek trout.

How Busy Will The Park Be This Weekend?
timsfly replied to troutchaser's topic in Roaring River State Park
It won't be real busy, but I expect 600-700 people on saturday and sunday, maybe a bit more if it turns off real warm. the river is in great shape. -
Great report, enjoy that yarn, it is the only yarn like it around here, unless someone else brought some back from N.Z.
