  1. River came up a foot or so, but is still clear and fishable. If it changes today I'll post pretty quick.
  2. Check out he buffalo canoes, I have one in the 10' solo and it only weighs like 38lbs, it is made of the roylex material. It has been a good canoe. I have been using canoes for over 30 years and I haven't found many places where a motor was needed. We used to float flat creek 10-12 times a year, and I have floated kings river more times than I can recall, I have had a lot of canoes over the years, but all were good, I would shy away from aluminum, they are noisy. I have always liked the fiberglass or the new royalex type canoes. I have a 12' hobie cat Kayak that I enjoy also, during warmer weather. Here is the buffalo web page. http://www.buffalocanoes.com/ I bought mine in springfield at Dynamic Earth, on fremont just south of battlefield road. Going south it is on the left hand side of the road. Great people there, they seem to be well informed.
  3. So far only about 3/4 of an inch has fallen, but it does look like more a comming, so far the river is unchaged, still pretty clear and fishing well. If the rains come a bit at a time the river should remain pretty good, but if we get two inches in a hour or so, it will probably get nasty again for a few days. The area can handle moderate rainfall right now. I'll post tomorrow and let you know how the river looks.
  4. Roaring River State Park will host two Kids’ Fishing Days during 2008. These will be on Saturday, May 17 and Saturday, August 16. These events are free to children age 15 and younger. An area of the stream will be reserved for kids, and numerous trout will be stocked throughout the day. Volunteers will be on-hand to assist kids with rigging, baits, tackle, etc. Free classes related to fishing and the outdoors will be offered. There will be various contests and drawings for prizes as well as prizes awarded to kids who attend at least two classes during the event. Free hotdogs, chips, and soda will be available from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
  5. I fished up near the hatchery, the water is a bit slower up there rignt now, and it is stacked with nice fish. We have some good hatches in the zone 1 area, I see lots of midge and blue wing olive hatches in the upper end. There are caddis hatches up there also, they seem to be heaiver in zone 2. The trico hatch is better in zone 2 also, but the B.W.0.'s are good in both zone 1 and 2.
  6. The spring appears to have stopped spewing mud out, and the river has cleared up almost overnight. I fished last night for about an hour, and caught 7 trout, 5 on a griffiths gnat and 2 on a small adams. Now below the falls there is still a lot of water. You still need to add extra weight, if you are nymph fishing, but when the spring clears like it has the flow will drop a lot in the following days and return to normal. So in the next few weeks the the dry fly fishing should just get better and better, if we don't get hammered this week by rain
  7. Another great week at the park, the water level continues to drop and the water gets clearer everyday, the river is still about a foot over normal, and has a good strong flow, the river is clearing and we can see fish now in the river. Good fly fishing this past week, good caddis hatches, tricos are still comming off in the morning, saw a few B.W.O's this week, and we are still catching trout on beetles, ants, and adams. In the evening I've been catching a few on Lt. cahills. Most of the dries I'm fishing are #16's and #18's, on the caddis, I've been fishing some #14's. Nymphs are still good producers, pheasant tails, copper johns, prince nymphs, are good choices, I like to fish these flies with a second fly (dropper) the zebra midge, or a micro egg are my to favoites right now, but a san juan worm is good also. We have also been catching a lot of trout on regular sized egg patterns, thread jigs, grubs like the John Deere green, and on white thread jigs. Most weighted flies we are fishing on 6X tippet and 3-4 feet under an indicator. Micro jigs, and marabou jigs have been good, olive, white, tan, and black/yellow have been the best colors in jigs. Powerbait eggs and worms have still be top producers in zone 1, the eggs in orange, brown, and white have been good, and the worms in cheese yellow, white, orange and the orange peel have all been good. Roostertails first thing in the morning have been good, skunk, brown, frog, and black have all been working. Small crankbaits and spoons are good choices also, I've seen more fish caught on spoons this year than I have in a long time. If you are fishing in zone 3, then nightcrawlers, minnows, corn, and powerbait paste is the way to go, good luck on the river this week.

I asked about putting one in at R.R. I offered to pay for all the equipment and keep up the equipment and pay for all of it if they would let me put one in at the twin falls hole, looking down stream. No deal, said it was a privacy thing. But it would be nice. I wanted to hook it to my site and there wouldn't have been a charge, my site is just for info, I don't make a cent on the site, I have no banners or stuff like that. But it would be nice to sit at the house and watch the fisherman. I thought it would be nice so people could see the condtion of the river.
  9. just a dab, the river is fine, didn't come up a bit, still partly clear and getting better every day.
  10. Fished crane today, started below the dairy farm, only landed 3 but had a few more hooked, caught them on black woolybugger, 1/32 oz. olive R.R. special, and one on a black/yellow streamer. Had to use a lot of weight. Water is still about a foot over normal but, it is clear. Didn't see any flies hatching, did see ants and beetles around. Didn't see any attack snakes today, just regular snakes. Nothing over 5 ft. long. http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...nt=P5010003.jpg http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...nt=P5010008.jpg http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...nt=P5010011.jpg The first trout was 12" long the other two were just a shade over 10" but they were fun.
  11. I think I'm fishing crane in the morning, if the snakes and the rabid rabbits don't get me I'll post a report. If no report is made by friday, come looking for the remains
  12. Sometimes the snakes will lay in the bushes and attack in groups 10 or 15 at a time, they usually go for the ankles and then for the throat when they get you down, mean nasty snakes. Ozark attack snakes.
  13. Crane is very crowded in may, MOSTLY SNAKES, but no it is usually not crowded, just the odd angler here and there. Wear a good tick repellent, last time I was there I'll bet I picked 30 ticks before I got home and several more after getting home, looks like a good tick season this year.
  14. I don't know, but there is one in springfield for sale, it is the 20' fiberglass, has a trailer and a 9.9 mercury motor, it has one live well and two or three seats, I think the guy wants 1500.00 for the boat, motor and trailer. Sounds pretty good to me, I already have a boat or I would buy it right now, I used to have one and it was great for all kinds of fishing.
  15. Water is still high and clearing, very fishable now. The fishing has been very good this past week, the water is dropping and looking better everyday. lots of good fish were caught this past week, dry fly fishing is getting better, some reports of fish being caught on beetles, ants, and elk hair caddis. I have been catching most of my fish on soft hackle or a pheasat tail/zebra midge dropper, most of my fish have been caught using a rig similar to this, I have been using a sink tip line and have been fishing the eddies and the tail end of the pools, I have been picking up several fish a morning. Good nymphs to use in the water as it is clearing would be, the pheasant tail, copper john, brassis, sow bugs, and the prince nymphs would be good flys right now. Small baby buggers were good this week especially in the afternoons, the bigger buggers still worked fine in the morning. The water is getting clearer everyday, so for now we can still get away with 4lb line, but this week or next week, the use of 3 and 2 lb line will probably be needed, the water is clearing that quick. There is still a good flow of water comming out of the cave, most of the runoff is finished, dry hollow is still running some but the water is clear. Plastic baits are still working great, the orange, cheese yellow and the white worms worked all week, the powereggs in hatch brown, white and orange were good all week also. Marabou jigs in black/yellow, olive, brown, and tan were all good this week. Spoons like the little cleo, the kastmasters and just about any kind of small gold or slilver spoon has been catching alot of fish. In Zone 3 most of the fish that are being caught on nightcrawlers and powerbait paste. I caught 2 this moring on tricos down by the handicap dock in zone 2, there were a lot of trout rising on the far side, just couldn't get a good drift with the fast water between me and the trout. I caught 3 more on a crackleback fished on a sinking line and fished like a soft hackle, I would cast up stream and let the river do all the work, I would let the water drag the fly down and it kept the line tight also, and when the trout hit they pretty much hooked themselves, not the most fun way to fish but it was effective this morning.
  16. Nice fish, I'll bet that was fun.
  17. I hate to change the report so fast but the water really cleared up and dropped a bit last night, now it is still quite a bit above normal and running very fast, but the water cleared up a lot last night, I didn't figure it would be this clear till next week, so the fly area is fishable now and looking pretty good, you'll need lots of weight and you'll have to take your time, but it looks like it will be a good weekend, a sink tip line would be a great asset right now, and the use of a 5 or 6 wt is reccomended, you'll have to have a heaiver rod to use the weight needed right now. The upper end(above dry hollow is looking good still) and should be very fishable all weekend.
  18. The river has came up about 4 feet or so, but is on the fall right now, another 2 weeks of nasty water or so. I've seen it clear up quicker, but I don't think so this time, it will run hard for the rest of this week and be in decent shape by the weekend, I figure it will still be high, but it may clear some as soon as all the runoff, runs off. Call the shop or pm here for more info Shop # 417-847-4956 This water is a real blessing, though it is hurting some people(pray for everyone that is affected by the flood waters) We have been low on water around here for a long time, Roaring River and other local streams should run good and strong all year, I'll bet the water in june, july and august will be the best we've seen in years.
  19. Fishing has been great this week, the water is finally shaping up. The river has cleared up a lot this past week, we are finally getting some decent dry fly fishing, not it is not perfect, still high and colored, but in the eddies and the edges of the river the fish are rising to caddis, and tricos everyday. Lots of nice fish were caught on beetles, adams, royal wulffs and humpys, and a few nice fish have been caught on cahills. Good numbers of trout have been caught on the pheasant tail/zebra midge combo, we have been fishing the black, brown and the red zebra most of the time, copper johns, and prince nymphs have also been good. Small glo-balls and chamois worms have been working very well also. Olive, black, and brown woolybuggers have been good all month, and the tan woolybuggers have been good at times. We are starting to catch a lot more fish on cracklebacks and woolyworms. With the clearing of the water we are using more 6X tippet, you can still use 5X first thing in the morning and I use 5X most of the time when using woolybuggers. If you are fishing a spinning rod, the woolybugger jigs in olive, black, brown and tan have been working very well. Roostertails in brown, skunk, black, and green have all been working well. Crankbaits like the rebel crawfish and the rapala minnow have been working pretty good, and if you can fish a spoon the little cleos and the small castmasters are working. Plastic worms and plastic eggs are still catching the most fish in zone 1, the orange, white, and the hatch brown eggs are working best, and in the worms, the orange, white, cheese yellow and the orange peal have been working the best. In zone 3 minnows, night crawlers and corn are still producing some nice fish. Now that the water is clearing, 2lb line will be important, if the 2lb line is to small, then 3 lb can be used, but in a few days 4lb will be to heavy to work really well. Good luck on the river this week.
  20. Crane is good to go, it is still a bit high, but not bad, stopped and fished a few minutes saturday evening, and caught 2 in about 30 minutes. It is looking good. Better fish it before it rains again this week
  21. everything is the same, the water is getting better everyday.
  22. Shoal Creek is looking good, fished just above capps creek yesterday, a few miles above capps creek. Caught a lot of sunfish, and a few big chubs. Here is a pic of the biggest sunfish, I caught maybe 20 total in a few hrs fishing. Still needed a heavy bugger or clouser type fly to get down deep. There were a lot of deer and turkey around yesterday, I guess the gusty winds had them all stired up. I put a few pics of them up to. I'm so glad spring is here. Fishing is getting better everyday. http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...toddsunfish.jpg http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...ent=goodone.jpg http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...t=deertodds.jpg http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...turkeytodds.jpg
  23. It is still dirty, but getting better everyday, you can see a foot or so in the slower water.
  24. Roaring River is still high and murky, but we are still in better shape than a lot of places in Missouri right now, the high water has taken its toll on a lot of fishing areas this past couple of weeks. Most fish are still being caught on plastic worm and plastic eggs. The brighter colored worms and eggs are still working the best, if you are fishing near the hatchery the hatch brown has been working well. Spinners and crankbaits are still catching their share of trout, black, brown, green and skunk colored spinners are working well, if you are fishing crankbaits the chartruse rebel crawfish are good and so are the gold/black rapalas. Marabou jigs and the roaring river specials are still working fine, you need the heaiver ones to get down. I'm using 1/16th and 1/8th oz jigs right now, black, brown, olive and the black/yellow have been good colors. With the water being up and murky you can use 4lb line and do just fine right now. If you are going to fly fish, use black, olive, blue, tan and brown woolybuggers, the coneheads and the beadhead buggers work best right now. Even using the cone or beadhead buggers you are going to have to add weight to get the flies down, just about any fly you throw right now is going to need added weight. Copper johns, pheasant tails, gold ribbed hares ears, flashback nymphs, glo-balls, and san juan worms are all good right now. There have been some reports of fish rising and taking cracklebacks and caddis, I'm sure in some of the holes were the current has eased up a bit there will start being more dry fly action. The river is getting better and clearer everyday, it is going to take a few weeks to get it back into the shape it was in during march. If you are going to fish zone 3 minnows and powerbait paste in white have been good choices all week. Tim's Fly Shop Tim Homesley rt-4 box 4088 Cassville,MO 65625
  25. Roaring River did drop about 6" further today, and it did seem to clear up quite a bit, there is still a lot of water, but it is clearing faster this time, I guess most of the mud got washed in during the last bit of high water. There were several fish caught today on woolybuggers and glo-balls, and the jig fisherman did ok, most fish were caught on plastic baits, but a couple were fishing spoons up by the hatchery and caught about 15 fish in 4 hrs today, said they had a few more on but landed 15, one was 18" long.
