  1. we cast #10 woolybuggers with 3wts just fine, weighted buggers will throw a little heavy, but it can be done, keep you casts short and the use of a DT-line helps a lot, but a 4 or 5 wt will throw a weighted bugger better, we use a lot of #14 buggers here(baby buggers) and they work well also.
  2. Our gas here in town has dropped from 2.99 to 2.78 in 2 days, is it dropping everywhere, and how long will it drop do you think.
  3. No problem, holler if you have more questions
  4. could it be big sugar or little sugar they are both great for smallies. sounds like flat creek also, could it be ?
  5. Roaring river is not high enough for a good float right now, there would be a lot of dragging. There are a few browns down that way, a few good sized ones. The recent rains missed us for the most part, we received 3/4" of rain last night. The river did not flood or raise much, water is still clear.
  6. Fished a few hrs down there today, it was nice, windy but good fishing, I fished a #8 black beetle and caught several nice fish on that pattern, I used a green/grizzly crackleback most of the day and did very well, probabaly caught 15 on the crackleback, and I fished a small #22 zebra midge for a bit trying to catch a 14" brown, I caught him but he was only about 12" but he was sure pretty, water is about normal and clear.
  7. For those of you that live near springfield, there are a bunch of Ross world wide reels at the outlet store, in the tent outside the store, if you are dealer like me they aren't that cheap (there not wholesale yet) but it would be a good buy for the retail buyer, they were mostly #3 and bigger but there were some spools for the smaller sized reels, not many left but you never know they might have more in the back. Check out there shoes to, I bought a pair of Keen water shoes today for only $40.00, now that was the bargain of the day for me, good luck and happy shopping.
  8. Dan Baileys used to put out a clear reel, it was standard arbor and it was a neat little reel, not that expensive, I think it was about 48.00 but it was unusual looking and I sold a few and none have broke yet, they seem to be very durable, I just put new line on one a few months ago.
  9. I'll be down there in the morning. about 6 a.m.
  10. I came accross flat creek last night, at Jenkins (248 bridge) it was about 3 foot higher and brown, but crane creek was in good shape, a bit higher and still clear.
  11. thanks, all good info, have a great weekend
  12. We recieved 1 1/2" of rain here at Roaring River last night, much needed and the river remained clear and is still very fishable, just wondered how the other local rivers looked, there was a lot of rain where I live in Billings, not sure how much but I'll be over 1 1/2 inches. Just wondering how everybody else faired.
  13. Stop by, I'll have what you need for fishing below the park.
  14. I have never done well with drys down that far, long time ago, I caught some on hoppers around Muncy but it was in sept. I use mainly woolybuggers when fishing that section of the river, I'm sure any minnow pattern, sculpin, would fish well also down there, I just fish the bugger mostly, but I have been fishing a micro squirrel sculpin some in the park, it would probably do well down below also.
  15. Don't expect great amounts of fish, there are a few trout. Below the Curry bridge, which is right above mike's hideaway, is the last place the conservation dept. stocks trout, they stock to this point once a month march-october. Below the bridge is considered table rock lake, and lake rules and regs are enforced there, trout are caught as far down as the 86 bridge( a mile or so below mike's) but not many, in the winter months we catch a few more trout down there. For your best luck fish above the curry bridge. Call down there, Mike's hideaway used to stock a few fish on there own from the hatchery in Cassville, don't know if they are still doing that or not.
  16. Below the park a 4 wt would be handy, I throw a lot of buggers and streamers down that far, you will enjoy the 2wt in the park.
  17. I read it, it was a great article.
  18. Swing by and I'll show you how to get to some of the lower parts of the river. The water is perfect for a 2wt right now. Bring a 4wt if you have one just incase we get some rain.
  19. Yes a 3wt will work great if there is not to much wind, today would have been perfect for a 2 or 3 wt, but I used my 4wt, it was in the truck ready to go.
  20. I'm still driving a lot, 100 miles a day back and forth to work, 5 or 6 days a week. I did buy a Subaru last week, gets twice the mileage my truck gets, and I still have a lot of room for fishing stuff. The gas prices suck, but I still have to get back and forth to work and I still have a need to fish, I fish untill the voices in my head stop yelling at me, and then I go back to work
  21. Water is in fine shape below town, fished the dairy farm section, someone was ahead of me on the conservation side. Landed 4, 1 about 4" long, 1 about 10" long and two about 12" long, and broke off a real nice one every bit of 16 or 17" hooked it on a conehead muddler type fly. Hooked a total of 7 landed 4, caught two on a #8 black beetle, 1 on a brown bugger and one on the cone head muddler before I broke it off. Got most of my strikes on the beetle.
  22. I'll be there today at 10:30, at the lower Wire road access area, see ya if you can make it, I'm only going to fish about 2 hrs should be done by 12:30.
  23. You'll enjoy the 1wt I have several my favorite is the 6'10" scott 1wt, and I have a 6' 2wt fiberglass scott that is a lot of fun, and I have a little 5' 3wt winston fiberglass rod that I really enjoy when condtions are right. A light rod at Roaring river is a lot of fun, there are always a lot of fish looking up, so you can almost always catch a fish or two on real small drys, and that is what these rods do best. I use mine a lot out west on small streams, but the wind will just tear these little rods up. I've tried the 0 and the 00 sage but they were a little to soft for me.
  24. Did he manage to catch you a nice mess for dinner ? He had a nice one when I left him, never heard from him or saw him again the rest of the day. I think that first fish left him all tuckered out
  25. Had the pleasure of fishing with Mrducky this morning here at the park. His first fish was a nice 14" rainbow, on a #16 or #18 black zebra midge, he said he was going to feed the family tonight. He is going to have fun today, the river is packed with fish, I'll bet he does very well, I on the other hand had to come back and work but oh well someone has to do it. He is very entertaining to fish with But I don't know what it says about a guy when a 44 year old man has to tie a fly back on for a 37 year old man ? Oh the times we are a having.
