  1. The woolyworm colorado spinner combo is alive and well at Roaring River and I know they are still used at Bennett. They work great on panfish and I've even caught white bass on them, use a #8 white woolyworm with a #2 silver colorado spinner and the white bass will tear them up(sometimes)I use the gold on the trout most of the time and silver seems to work best for me on warmwater species.
  2. Fishing was pretty good this morning at the River, I managed to catch 12 and then had to go to work, I just closed the shop down and I'm getting ready to go out again for an hour or so, it is 25 now, (heat wave) I caught most of my fish on a woolybugger this morning, #8 heavy weighted,Dk brown, but caught the best trout(about 8lbs) on a wine colored SJW no weight and just sight fished to the fish, it was a hoot. Only about 8 guys on the river when I finished at 10, but there are a few more down there now.
  3. It is 88 degrees where I'm at and the fishing has been good, will send photos someday. We are going on a 3 day kayak/camping/marine life thing, it should be good, the weather has been nice, rains once in awhile. You guys stay in and tie flies if the roads get nasty, those trout will make it a day or so with out you Becarful and don't get out unless you have to. I hate Ice storms the last one cost me over 400 in tree clean up alone. Oh and we sold our house in monett, missouri, we are looking for one around the clever, republic area, need one about 1700 sq and with a basement if possible, and my wife wants it to be less than 4 years old or new. If you know of one give me a PM. Thanks.
  4. Steve, I almost caught you a big ole possum last night, we fished some real backcountry water yesterday, only caught one big fish, about 5 lbs but caught a couple that were about 3 and saw one that would go 7 or better, saw but he saw me first I'll send pics if I can, prices doubled when I left guys sorry, but maybe you can get Duane to dicker on the prices
  5. I got here fiday and slept all day sat. but managed to fish a bit on sunday, fishing was good, fished about 4 hrs. hooked up 6 nice trout and managed land 4 of them, all on top and all on a #12 adams and 4X tippet. I love these trout they are not real leader shy. I'm in Rotorua today, we are camping in national forest campground untill next sat. starting tomorrow, one or two streams around looks like lake fishing will be more avaliable. Guys when you go by the shop take care and not give my help to much trouble as he can be a grumpy old man Anybody want any possum hair ? it is all over the hiways over here. they seem to just as smart as armidillos Happy NEW Year, we started it a little ahead of you over here, it is monday afternoon.
  6. I fished a bit below the park last week, the water is still up a bit, it is still low but better than it has been, I fished just upstream from the cemetary and caught a few, but I'm sure the fishing would have been better if I had went on upstream, it was a few weeks ago. The eagles are best seen in the middle of the week, they go up high most of the time when there are lots of people in the park, monday can be good if there are not a lot of fisherman in the zone 2 area. Put a bugger or a sculpin on if you go down there, sometimes a glo-ball will work but I use a brown or a olive bugger or mohair in that area most of the time, the fish seem to key in on the heavy sculpin and minnow populations down there, not much top water action on that part of the river. Good luck.
  7. I think the original pattern calls for fine copper wire wrapped counter clock wise thru the hackle, I'm sure this would make them more durable, I have used 1 lb maxima for years to make mine more durable, and it seems to work for me, but bad placement of your forceps or what ever you use to remove the flies can ruin a fly on the first fish, try the mono thing it does seems to make them a bit more durable, but that hackle is pretty easy to break, but you know I have used griffiths gnats that seemed to last for ever and then I've had them mess up after only a few fish, the browns and rainbows have those sharp teeth and if they are hooked where the fly rubs over the teeth a few times while you are playing the trout, well the teeth can mess a fly of any kind up pretty quick.
  8. Yes 10" fish are now a thing of the past for you, during the C&R season there are many, many 3 to 5 pound rainbow trout around, and there are a lot of nice 16"-18" browns around and several much bigger.
  9. I caught the brown on a sculpin I tie. I tie the sculpin out of austrailian possum. I catch lots of browns here at the park on pheasant tails, caddis nymphs, they seem to like beetles and ants in the summer and I've caught a lot of browns here on woolybuggers.
  10. I'm there fri, sat, and sun. 10-1 I was there a bit today doing paper work, then I went fishing below the park and then went back up and worked a little bit more. Work, work, work that is about all I do this time of year. You know fishing is working At least for me.
  11. I got this nice 19" brown monday morning. No body but me and the fish and the eagles, it was very peaceful. hmmm... I got to get this picture thing figured out.
  12. This time of year it is C&R only. Flies only right now. Fishing hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. fri, sat, sun, and mondays.
  13. Not a soul in the park when I started fishing this morning, only about 5 when I came back up to the shop. Fishing was good this morning, I have to work a bit and then I'm going back down. I caught a nice 18" brown and a couple of 18" rainbows already, and several small fish.
  14. No, trout hold in there year round, and for another couple of miles down stream, now in cases like last year, it was harder on them than usual, but you know we caught fish down there in aug. and sept. and the water was low, you had to fish the undercut banks and the deeper holes, but there were trout there. We catch trout and white bass togeather a lot of times in the early spring, and as the lake gets warmer the trout move back up into the cooler water of roaring river. In the winter you never know what you might catch. Not many smallies or panfish in there untill you get to the 86 bridge(the 86 bridge at eagle rock) Not many small mouth in there at all, but plenty of kentuckys to keep you busy and lots of panfish. You can wade fish most of it pretty easy, but on the lower half a canoe or kayak comes in handy. Oh yeh the conservation stocks that area about 8 times a year.
  15. I wade fished. To get to this area: If you come in on 112 from cassville or seligman, you will come into the park, and at the bottom of the hill, (either way you come in on 112 you come down a big hill to get to the park.) you will turn on F hwy, it only turns one way, east. go down F untill you go past the conservation turn out area, the first road past the turn out area, is the road to turn on, you will turn to the right, you will go about a mile and come to an old cemetary it is on your left, I park in that area or go down to the bridge, a few hundered yards further down. I usually work my way upstream from there, you will need to do a lot of walking to find fish, but you will see few if any fisherman. Good luck.
  16. If you are looking for something different, the lower part of Roaring River is fishing pretty good right now, fished it a bit yesterday morning and it fished pretty good, the last rains we got must have moved a few fish down. I started at the muncy Cemetary and fished up almost to the park boundry,(about a mile and a 1/2) caught 13 nice trout, 2 browns and 11 rainbows, most were about 12" long(stockers) and both the browns were about 15 or 16" long and looked like they had been in the river awhile. caught everything on a dk. olive/ grizzly hackled conehead woolybugger. # 8 Hook. Saw several eagles and one otter, it was really nice on the river yesterday.
  17. I received some in the mail before my last san juan trip, I tried one while I was out there, and it worked just fine, a bit coiled right off the spool, but it straightend right out with just a little stretching. It layed out fine and worked just like a standard leader.
  18. Yep e-mailing me is best right now, I'm usually only in the shop on fri, sat, and sunday, I fished all day at the park today and worked a bit in the shop, so e-mail me or call the machine at the shop and leave a message. Thank you.
  19. Thank you Phil, I hope this helps you guys with the colors and sizes I'm using. I tie on 1/100th ounce jig heads and sometime when fishing deep or in real fast water I use the 1/80th ounce size.
  20. Here are a few of the egg patterns that I use, but remember lots of color combos work, in real dirty water bright orange or chartruse will sometimes work very well. bear with me I'm trying to upload some pics, I'm not getting it done very fast
  21. Glad those eggs are working out for you. We are just tearing them up over here at the park on apricot and lt. roe with a red dot. I have been doing best on # 18's, but I caught 2 on friday with the jig head glo-bugs, and both were nice, one was 5lbs and the other just a little over 6, and I caught these in the same hole in about 15 minutes of fishing, and the eggs had to be right on the bottom rolling in the current, it was fun watching the fish take the eggs. Oh I have a 1000 more of the jig heads comming in a few days. Holler when you need more.
  22. Hi, I was supposed to get this # on a few weeks ago, but I forgot, it is 417-847-3783 Gordon works at Roaring River State park, he is a great person to have rebuild or refurbish that old rod of your dads or of your grandfather, with out killing your pocket book, he has restored two bamboo rods for me and has built me a few more fly rods for the shop and two scott rods for me, he is great and will do you a good job, call him for all your rod repair needs. He enjoys working on the old cane rods.
  23. I bought a 480 last year, and it has worked great so far, it really is easy to use.
  24. Glad you had a good time, fishing was really good at the park yesterday, I caugth a lot of nice fish on dry flies, and didn't really fish the eggs to hard. But those eggs do catch a lot of lunkers at the park, and at taney to.It was nice to meet you, hope you come over again sometime.
  25. We received about 3 3/4" of rain wed. evening. This brought the river up about 2 feet. The water has remained clear and the flow is great. The conservation dept. has both falls open right now, it was last spring that this happened last. I fished for a bit this morning, didn't take long to catch 5 or 6 trout. It was one of those real nice cold mornings, no wind and only me and 3 other people in the park. The park should fish great this weekend with the added flow. Come over and fish if the generation is to much for you at taney. At least R.R. will be fishable. See ya on the river. The road into the park, the north hill was completly clear this afternoon, but be carful if comming in, in the morning, it can get that nasty sheet ice early in the morning, but the D.O.T. clears it fast.
