Fishing was really good on Capps today, I started at the lowest bridge and fished mostly in that area, I caught a nice rainbow a hundred yards or so downstream from the bridge and a nice brown just a bit lower than that. I fished woolybuggers in brown and black #12's did best for me today, did well on both, caught a few on a san juan worms, and a few on an oregon cheese #16 micro egg, no weight, dead drifted and sight fished, lots of trout were in the area below and above the bridge and several were at the bridge also. Capps got stocked again yesterday with 700 browns, so I wanted to fish it before I posted that just to make sure the fishing was good I used my favorite 7' 4wt bamboo and 5X flouro tippet. 9' leader. Great morning to be on the water. Good luck on the water this week.

First Weekend Of C&r At Roaring River
timsfly replied to timsfly's topic in Roaring River State Park
Caught a lot on the San Juans this weekend, I'm sight fishing them mostly, with little or no weight. I'm fishing them on a 9' 6X leader most of the time. -
I've seen them sell much higher, I had a buddy that is done fishing, forever, I am just helping him get rid of some stuff, the reel would have sold higher on eBay, but it just seemed easier to sell it here on the forum.

First Weekend Of C&r At Roaring River
timsfly replied to timsfly's topic in Roaring River State Park
Just the yearly trout stamp during the C&R season -
New shop looks good, went in for a bit today, very nice layout, stocked very well, lots of sage rods, and they had a good asst. of reels and fly lines, and the walls were full of fly tying materials, everybody needs to support your local fly shop, so when you need something they will be there to help you.

First Weekend Of C&r At Roaring River

You don't have to use barbless, I do it is just easier. A lot of fisherman do use barbless, year round now. -
Fishing was great this week, the weather was great for the start of the C&R season, the wind was the biggest problem, the fish were very eager to bite on friday and saturday, sunday was a bit slower, but monday the weather was near perfect and the dry fly fishing was fantastic, we caught lots of trout on Blue Wing Olives, RS2's, parachute adams and small griffiths gnats most of the dries I fished yesterday were size 20's and smaller, 7X tippet and 9' leaders, I didn't even try for any big fish yesterday, they needed a rest, and the dry fly fishing was just that good. I'll bet I landed 40 + trout yesterday on my one weight and small dries. Friday, I fished san juan worms, glo balls, bigger buggers and some streamers and did very well, I had 7 trout on friday that were over 4lbs, a couple going close to 7, there are a nice number of big fish in the river, MDC stocked 150 lunkers and 1200 regular sized rainbows, 12-15" so fishing was great, on saturday the fishing slowed a bit for me, but I talked to several fisherman that were doing very well on small copper johns and pheasant tail nymphs, and very small egg patterns. I know a few guys did very well on fri and sat fishing a hopper with a small pheasant tail as a dropper, and I talked to one guy who swore he had over 50 trout on saturday on a brown #24 zebra midge, I watched him hook 6, but he never got one all the way in, but he was sure hooking them. I caught 4 saturday that were over 20" and sunday I only caught 2 over 20" but there are so many nice fish in the river, it was very good fishing. Come down and take advantage of the great fishing on the weekends, we fish fri-monday 8:00-4:00

You should see how they treat the fish here at Roaring River, I've seen em do everything but drop kick them back in the river. The worse thing I've seen done during the winter season, is overplaying a large fish, and then keeping it out of the water for 2 or 3 minutes and then the fisherman wonders why the trout rolled over and is now dead, some people just never figure out how to release a fish unharmed.

on most of my shorter sight fishing rods, I do fish DT lines, for me I feel I get a better cast up close, and i'm never throwing great distance with a shorter rod, I'm usally looking for a quite (stealthy presentation) and accuracy. So for me a DT would probabaly be my choice, as it usually is, but a WF for most people will work out very well, if your not just going out sight fishing and you plan on doing some dry fly fishing a lot, sometimes a WF will help when throwing a little further and the WF will lay out on the water very nicely, I usually go with something in the quite taper line, like sage had, Rio has their LT line it is very nice, and Orvis and Cortland both have a WF that is a little more refined than some of the standard lines on the market.

With this years low clear water a 3 wt should great, expect good BWO & caddis hatches all weekend, if your going to target only bigger fish you might use 5X tippet to start with, so you can land the bigger fish quicker, if you know what your doing you can land most 3-6 lb trout in less than 3 minutes when the river is this low, if you fight em to long and they die, well then you only get to fish for them once, take care of them and we can all catch them all winter.

Good Fishing On Upper Taney Today, Nov 1St
timsfly replied to timsfly's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
No one oft Zeitac quads -
I had a good day on taney, from 5am to about 11 am I landed over 40 nice trout, most were under 15" but two were 17" one brown and one rainbow, I caught mostly browns today, probabaly only had 5 or 6 rainbow total, most of the browns appeared to be small males, but one was a nice little female, used 5X tippet till about 7:30 and then it slowed up, I replaced the 5X with 6X and it started all over again, I stood down below outlet 2 for an hour or so today and for awhile it was non stop catching, well hooking, I had a fish either hooked up or landed on almost every cast for about 30 minutes, it was a lot of fun, hooked a few well over the 20" length but never landed one today. Switched to the 6 1/2 foot 4wt about 10 and caught fish on small soft hackles small egg patterns, a few on a chamois worm, white on a #18 hook, and a few on a parachute adams. Most of the fish I caught early were on a big #8 Chamois worm or on a streamer, any way great fishing today. Oh and I did get a nice Ozark Bonefish

Be aware of the rules and regulations of C&R season before you fish, the hatchery puts up some good signage but it is up to you to pay attention and not use an illegal lure. Water is still very low and clear at Roaring River, the hatchery will stock a lot of lunkers for the upcoming C&R season, last year MDC stocked 200 lunkers, 3-6 lb trout and 2500 normal sized trout 12-15" and when the rains came the big boys showed up out of the spring, this year with little or no water coming from the spring, I don't think we will see the big trout like we did last year, unless in the next few weeks we get some big rains, it would probably take a 12" rain over the course of a week to get the river up big enough to get the big fish moving, of course 12" needs to come over a 4 or 5 day period, not all at once. I fished a few hrs today, caught a lot of trout, most were small, a few were in the 15" range, no browns today, but I saw a couple, I caught all my trout today on san juan worms, and #20 adams dries, it was a near perfect day to fish the 1 wt, very little breeze and low water and blue wing olive and caddis were both hatching most of the afternoon. I think it will be wise to start off on the 9th of nov. with 5X tippet and and a woolybugger or a leech pattern of some sort, of course a san juan worm or an egg pattern proves to very effective most years, my best egg color is either apricot supreme, or oregon cheese, but if we do get rain, then I'll fish chartreuse or hot pink, on the buggers, black, brown, olive and tan have been working best the past few months, but if we get some rain, I'll use bright orange, chartreuse, white or dk olive, with some glitter in the tails. Best nymphs this winter will be the same as it has been the past few months, pheasant tails, hares ears, copper johns, zebra midges, burlaps, sow bugs and small brassies, unless we get some rain, then I'll use more flash back type nymphs, like the copper john, or a crackle back with a holographic tinsel body. Streamers will work, I like a olive, black/yellow or a brown marabou streamer, these colors also work well for marabou jigs the spin fisherman will use, white jigs are very effective also. Fishing is designated as Flies Only. Roaring River regs. http://mdc.mo.gov/si...5/6136_3999.pdf Fishing map of Roaring River. http://mdc.mo.gov/si...5/6140_4002.pdf Make sure you use flies only during C&R season, no plastics, no rubber baits, no live or real bait and no treble hooks. Single hook roostertails and jigs are very good for the spin fisherman, as are glo-balls, san juan worms, small thread jigs and chenille grubs fished under a cork. Fishing hours are always 8-4 during the C&R season, fri, sat, sun, and mon. Shop hours are fri, sat, & sun, 10am- 1pm C&R starts nov. 9th and ends on feb 11th 2013. Good luck, it should be a fun C&R season

Fly Rod Found, Describe It And I'll Get It Back To You :)

I've reported it to all the park offices, I know everybody in the park, if the owner comes looking, the rod won't be hard to find.
