  1. Well guys, another year is behind us...and what a year it was. The North Fork of the White was a big fish heaven in 2011, add a nice Eleven Point rainbow, big Eleven Point Smallmouth (both from Brian Sloss's boat), some big fish from Dry Run Creek, and a trip to the North Woods and I can't imgagine much of a better year.
  2. Hey guys, Here is the "Greatest Hits" for 2011. Such an awesome year! Santa brought a new video camera to throw in the mix for 2012 so hopefully the videos will get a least a 'little' better. Also have a bunch of tying videos lined up as well. Looking forward to a great 2012!
  3. EXACTLY!! Stocker brown trout will eat the crap out of big streamers.......where are the numbers of Fall stocked brown trout? I just really don't get it. It's been like that all year, float Patrick to James one time and boat a half-dozen, the next time boat 2, the next boat 20--the meaning of the word inconsistent. I still say that Kelly to Sunburst or Kelly to Patrick is the best water on the river.
  4. Yup, have some of those. They are REALLY good and actually last longer than those plastic eyes.
  5. Exactly, I had no idea who they were until I heard one of their songs on a commercial (again, I LOVE the Shazam app for Android) and started downloading some of their stuff for videos. Defenitely not something I would listen to everyday but their stuff works great for videos.
  6. No kidding! Going to put the new video camera through it's paces too!
  7. Hey Bob, As far as I know those eyes are still not on the market. They are 'supposed' to come out in 2012 but I haven't heard a lot of buzz about them so not sure if it is going to happen. They really are great though. I have always battled epoxying, or super glueing stick-on eyes on flies because they ALWAYS fall off....but then some flies you don't want the heavy barbell eyes on either.....those eyes are the perfect "happy-medium" as they are plastic dumbell eyes that have no weight and they come in some HUGE sizes, and then some really, really small sized. Myself, Aaron Scott, and Kyle Kosovich threw that fly (and flies like it, some much bigger) on 10wt's for several, several days. Believe it or not, the casting part wasn't the hard part for me....it was stripping that thing in an eratic retrieve. The stripping was a ton of work. We added it up (VERY VERY ROUGHLY) and we are pretty sure we casted it around 80 miles during the time we were on the Chippewa River, WI and Lake Vermilion, MN. I earned a whole new respect for streamer fishing during that trip. Here are the videos:
  8. Great! As long as you are having fun doing what you want to do, that is all that matters.
  9. Thanks!!
  10. Arofishing, the big streamer game is the exact opposite of the numbers game. Matt and Craig hit a great water level/clarity and did it right......and didn't stop casting big streamers until they were at the takeout(aside from wading in a couple of spots), and that is exactly what you have to do. I have talked to a LOT of guys that came down with the intentions of throwing big streamers and usually not even half-way through the report they starting nymphing. The Big Streamer Game isn't for everyone for sure, you have to know that you very well may get blanked, you have to be TOTALLY happy with a roll, charge, head turn, or follow......but typically when you do get one of those it is from a fish that will make you weak in the knees. Those guys that come committed and ready to throw big streamers have never left my boat saying "I really wish I had nymphed up a couple of fish" even if they got blanked. There is something about throwing big, usually bright streamers from the bow of a drift boat...you see your fly the whole time it is in the water, you SEE the fish eat, you SEE the fish roll on it, you SEE EVERYTHING--and it is crazy awesome. It will give you dreams...seriously.
  11. Defenitely rent a canoe. Water levels 'are' going to be good, but not super friendly to the average guy wading in. Fish DEEP! Other than that Chris is dead on the money.
  12. :goodjob: :goodjob:
  13. Ok, give me the first mile below Patrick and the rest is dead to me. But it's SO SEXY....
  14. That's what I'm talkin' about!!!!
  15. Thanks! I am such a crazy Foo Fighters fan, have almost used "Pretender" more than once. It's kind of funny, I very rarely use music in the videos that I actually listen to....not really sure why. There has been a little Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I'm sure something else but VERY rare. I guess I have a certain style I edit in and the music I listen to I just can't get "in" to editing into the movement of a video. It's horrible, when I watch television and hear a commercial the first thing I hear is the music and think "That would be an awesome song for a video!!" Lets put it this way, the Shazam app on my phone has probably been the biggest tool I use for videos.
  16. Thanks! The kid with the skills gets it from his mother.....
  17. hahaha, I swear below Patrick is dead to me. For such sexy water it is the most inconsistent on the river--and I fished it more this year than I have the last 5 combined. ALL of the big, big browns we caught this year were from Lamb Shoal (above Kelly) to Patrick. I ran 1 guide trip down to James this year and that is only because the guys were some of my guys that fish with me a lot and they wanted to see that water.
  18. I resemble that remark. By the way, you didn't miss much Friday......but Saturday and Sunday.......craziness. Saturday they had two fish over 20" and on Sunday we had one pushing 20 and a big rainbow lost. The fish liked that water.
  19. Hey guys, I had been only posting the seasonal videos on the NFOW forum but had some requests to put it here too....so here you go. I'm not going to lie, the "busy" part of fall was pretty lackluster. The water was low and CRAZY clear, fishing was Ok but nothing to write home about. Post-spawn fishing has been really, really good though. Couple hungry, post-spawn fish with great water and you have a recipe for disaster.....a GREAT disaster. Winter is looking phenominal, period. Here you go guys, I hope you like it! Brian
  20. Hey guys, Here is the Fall, 2011 video. Brian
  21. :D :D Well played gentleman....well played
  22. hahaha, exactly! A knee-jerk reaction from a big fish is THE best way to get them to eat. I had a client say "That fish would have eaten a Snickers bar if it hit the water in front of his face" after he landed a 23" FAT brown. Making the, for lack of a better word, 'lucky' cast that brings that streamer in a big fishes personal space is all it takes. Sounds pretty easy.....AAAHHHHHHHHHHH I have no hair left, you have seen me! (I kind of look like the yellow emoticons don't I, yikes) Doesn't matter what time of day it is, if there is high sun, or clouds.....ask this fish He ate at around 11:30 in the morning, in June, on pretty flat water.....not a cloud in the sky.
  23. I guess the only way to find out is for you to book me for next fall without me knowing who you are.....I will beg you to throw BIG NASTY streamers because that is what is awesome, teach you a TON about casting, fishing, streamers, and nymphing if you want, and will politely ask you to take a breather when we get to the heads of riffles and point out the reason why.
  24. darn pretty fish isn't it? That section of the river is a flat shelf of limestone by the way. Ok, so in other words just becuase I have been on the river SO MUCH I HAVE to HAVE caught a fish off of a redd? I will be the first to say that I have never seen a big, big rainbow on a redd. A couple of weeks ago, I sat and watched fish on redds for probably 30 minutes, it's really cool to see how they interact. I have GREAT video of a couple fish in the moment on one of my fall videos....that is just really good footage, are you meaning that as soon as I shot that video I casted to them? I also live in Ozark County Missouri....one of the biggest counties for meth busts...am I a meth head just because it is around my county so much? By the way, the guy eating the roe is Rusty....one heck of a guy. One of his clients caught a brown that dropped eggs in his boat....he was the new guide at that moment so he took one for the team and we got some funny video. Assumption is the mother of all mess ups. Listen, I don't know if I have ever met you or not but I will stand behind MY actions, every person I have ever guided will stand behind my actions. I will also personally stand behind the actions of the guides who guide under me as well.
