No bait or soft plastics from Rainbow Spring to Patrick Bridge....above Rainbow Spring is fair game.

Like the last shows, we self-hosted this show. The couple was a couple from St Louis (Mike and Lori Ott) that had actually bid on a guide trip that I donated to Ozark Fly Fishers. The crew got to ROLF a day early and asked if they could film my guide trips that I had booked and Mike and Lori were cool enough and said they didn't care. They can fish too!

Mike and Lori WHACKED the fish that day.....it was awesome. Funny thing though, Mike said "We bring bad weather with us" and told me about being at Montauk when the big flood came through and so on. The evening after they caught all those fish for the Outdoor Channel cameras.....a tornado comes through. All was well but it did bump the water up for when we filmed with the vets. It was our pleasure hosting Project Healing Waters and getting a chance to take those guys on a trip. Brian

Re-Cap Video Of The 2010 Spring Guiding Season
Brian Wise replied to Brian Wise's topic in North Fork of the White River
Yeah, the whole thing was shot with the GoPro. Get that little camera in the right light...with a little tweaking in post-production and it throws some really good quality. The funny thing is, the rendering process on that video is several steps down from the other videos I have done with the GoPro--and only goes as high as 720p, so the quality you 'see' is about 3/4 of the actual quality it shoots if that makes sense. I have a gorilla pod, a suction cup mount, and the original mounts for the camera. What is really cool though is ALL of my fisherman are completely awesome and play along for me to get some footage while they are either fighting fish or while we are wading in certain spots. I thought you may have been talking about my wife instead of the video camera Tito Brian -
Re-Cap Video Of The 2010 Spring Guiding Season

Yeah....the first time he hit the trigger at the carwash he almost fell over, so naturally I got a huge kick out of it. Turns out he got the last laugh as he hit the trigger again and lost control and SOAKED me. -
Sounds like you threw together a good trip to the NFOW....a lot of people will fish the "fishy"(by fishy I mean the fast hard riffle water)water and if they don't catch anything they really, really struggle. You hit it on the head, we have been catching most of the fish in the tailouts for probably a month now. The flat water usually catches us a couple of fish per trip but unless you are with a buddy in a canoe, or in a drift boat it isn't worth the time to wade it. There are always exceptions though, if that flat water has structure it becomes fishable immediately...and by structure I mean any kind of fish attracting "stuff" ledges, deep water, limestone cuts, drop-offs, etc. Most of this stuff is all but impossible to wade and fish effectively and if you were to actually fish them hard it would take you 8 hours to fish a mile of water---but you can fish it from a boat as you are floating to the next real fishing spot and catch fish in between the better water. I would say pat yourself on the back because that is a whale of a day of fishing for NFOW first-timers! Brian

That is a pretty nice smallmouth....kind of a funky place to catch one that far down the riffle at Kelly though, smallies are always a cool suprise! Let me guess, you caught some numbers of fish in that tailout directly to his right in that photo? Just guessing... :-) Well done fellas! Brian

Where To Float And Where To Stay?
Brian Wise replied to Kyle's topic in North Fork of the White River
Technically Kelly Ford is the end of a county road (read public road) and there is a right-of-way for every public road...all is well, I have put in there hundreds and hundreds of times. The smallmouth above the spring are picking up, haven't heard of any big fish being caught but it's pretty good. Brian -
Where To Float And Where To Stay?
Brian Wise replied to Kyle's topic in North Fork of the White River
Get to Kelly Ford by County Road 372 (Crossroads Store) to County Road 365 to County Road 368....the end of County Road 368 is Kelly Ford. Go any farther and you'll end up in the river. Brian -
Is that Bloodworth?

That is the exact stuff. Silicone legs (sili-legs) tear up and rubber just doesn't 'move' like Spanflex....it also wraps an awesome body too! Try getting some of the chartreuse to wrap some Caddis pupa bodies with!! Brian

Hey guys, Just came across a sign up for alerts from the USGS on water levels for any given (or as many) streams as you want to sign up for. http://water.usgs.gov/wateralert/ It is super easy signing up and you can have the alerts sent by text or email. What I really liked about it is you can set your alerts to, well, alert you when the stream you are signing up for goes over a certain level. Like I signed up to get an alert when the North Fork of the White goes over 1000 cfs. Thought I would pass it along. Brian

Hey emjay, My wife is a photographer and the still shot was taken with a Nikon D200. The video was taken with a GoPro. Brian

Thanks guys. Fish was caught at the very bottom of Cave Riffle about 1/2 mile below ROLF. Couldn't really roll video while we were fighting it as I kind of had a boat to deal with and only got about 20 seconds of video and there were maybe half a dozen frames that were good....that one was the best. I typically hold my cool pretty well when one of my fisherman hooks a nice fish---but I LOST it when this one took. Brian

Hey guys, Have been running on fumes lately....guiding a ton so sorry for reports being few and far between. Fishing has been good to spectacular for the whole month of April. If you are planning on coming down and fishing FOR sure have some Rubber-Legs and Caddis Pupa as those 2 flies have been the major ticket lately. A lot of pictures coming but have a cool story to share. I'm sure everyone has seen big browns busting bait fish in super shallow water....and I'm sure most of us try our best to cast to that exact spot where we see that happening.....and nothing really happens right? Well, we found out what happens when a brown is busting baitfish about 15' from the drift boat and one of the anglers has a big nasty streamer on!! This photo was actually stripped from video that was being shot as we landed this fish. We did everything right to get a quick photo....left the fly in it's mouth (just in case the fish was dropped) and left the net under the fish (just in case it was dropped)-----fish was dropped, missed the net and came un-hooked as it swam off. A serious, serious brown that gave us the COOLEST take I have ever seen!! Brian

Took my wife on a float from Cook's Landing to Tecumseh. It had been WAY too long since she had the chance to really fish and it had been too long since we had a "date night" so we made the best out of both of them and decided to chase the whites. Fishing was pretty slow until we hit the lower part of the river. We were of course in the drift boat....with fly rods flying around so, as usual, we got a ton of the same questions...."What are you fishing for? Trout?" Just as one of those questions was asked my wife got into her first hydrid and silenced all. She fought it like a champ too!! Brian

Nah, any secrets that I still may have would come out in a float. I never really was one of those guys that felt like my special fly or a certain spot was considered "mine"...I think I said it at the presentation, I'm a pretty open book..I FOR SURE don't know it all but can give some tips every now and then. Thanks for the kind words guys. Brian
