Thanks! Doing videos is a ton of fun isn't it?!?! GoPro's are cool....have some drawbacks but very, very cool indeed. I love mine.

Thanks, and totally agree!! I will be throwing a "Big Eyed Hang Time" at some NFOW Stripers...very, very soon.
-
Awesome tier. The big nasty at the dungeon but we had some rainbows eat the Articulated Ice Pick in the super fast water....which was SO COOL!

This may seem a little "old hat" but the streamer bite on the North Fork of the White is absolutely awesome. I will be the first to say that numbers are not there....numbers come from nymphing and the nymph bit is still off. But we are still getting swirls, follows, or takes from a big fish on every-single-trip on bigger streamers. This kind of fishing defenitely makes you earn it though, you have to commit to throwing big streamers, and be ok with getting blanked or just catching a couple of fish. It isn't called "Hero or Zero" for nothing....but when you get a "hero" fish-----it makes every cast worth it. This fish ate a White Dungeon at 10:00 in the morning...in bright sun...over 100 feet from the closest shade. Measured just over 27" and is seriously one of the gnarliest browns I have ever touched....look at the HEAD ON THAT THING!! I'm not down-playing it's size...the thing was massive, but it 'felt' so much bigger in-hand...as it was eyeing my arm for it's next meal. (sorry for the bad quality photos, those are screen-shots from the video we got of the fish) We have been doing really well with the white Dungeon and the Ice Pick in white too. Natural colors are catching some nice smallmouth.

Couple Of Nice Bows This Week.

Makes sense to me. -
To be dead honest...I wouldn't be fishing an actual sink tip unless the water was at over 1500 cfs or so. Intermidate lines are probably better all-around lines than a sink tip or floating lines especially if you are wading on typical summer (low) water. Sink-tips are GREAT if the water will still allow you to move the fly slowly but on low water if you are moving the fly slowly with a sink-tip it is in the rocks and a pain in the rear. BUT, we have been doing nothing but spanking big fish on floating lines and big streamers lately. This is just me, but most of the time I don't want a streamer right on bottom (unless I am drifting it on a twitch but that is a whole other story) for trout...I want them to attack from below. Ideally they will attack moving 'up' to the fly, eat, and then turn back down...that turn is key and those are not the fish you miss, they hook themselves. Which goes exactly along with when fish eat while a fly is on the dangle below you, fly is closer to the surface, fish attacks on a tight line and hooks itself. (you can read this as I would much rather have a fish hook itself than me have to do anything because I will probably mess it all up if it were up to me ) Also, fwiw, when I am wading and throwing streamers I RARELY fish the fly in a downstream angle. Streamers are a lot like wet flies, if you watch someone that is an exceptional wet fly fisherman he rarely "swings wets" he will be casting upstream on an angle, across with slack, etc. Streamers can be so much better fished if you are super hands-on with your approach. Cast, mend, strip-strip-strip, mend downstream, strip-strip-strip, mend. WATCH Kelly Galloups Streamer videos...period: Kelly Galloup's Streamer Fishing For Trophy Trout

Great report and nice fish! Slumpbusters and Clousers are my favorite smaller streamers, geez I would eat a Slumpbuster! I still can't get over this thing that is happening with nymphing....it's just off. I personally don't have a problem with it because I would rather have my fisherman banging banks with streamers anyway. It's still weird though. -
A face like that is meant for the big screen....

@Wrench...I was actually on the sticks when it ate. One of my fisherman hooked it and he and I both had our hands full. He was throwing a 7wt because we had planned on throwing big streamers for trout (because it is working well).....hooked it 20' from the boat on a yellow Dungeon and it proceeded to take him 100' into his backing on the second run -- on a 7wt. A LOT of the video I get is when I am guiding so it can be pretty tough to get a ton of footage and still "get the job done." @Justin...your film-work is amazing and I can't wait to cooperate with you on another video.

Thank you Mr. Sloss!!

All of the whitebass, and the walleye my eldest caught were caught on the Bryant/Tecumseh area of Norfork Lake....the rest were all from the North Fork of the White. I hope you mean that the way I think you do....because that is the way it was meant to be. I think it was last years spring video where the screenshot on youtube was the Mrs.....it got to 1000 views quicker than any other of my videos have.

Blitzen Trapper -- "Black River Killer" Kind of dark but I really like the old country sound with a cool beat. I have to say emjay....it is truly one of those that I couldn't put my finger on. It has absolutely nothing near the shape of 95% of the hybrids I have ever seen. It is totally shaped like a striper, and those broken lines completely threw me for a loop when we landed it. I didn't know if hybrids lost shape as they got that big (undoubtedly this, if it is truely a hybrid, is one of the largest hybrids caught on a fly on the state as the state record hybrid is 20lbs...this one was a shade over 13) Seriously thanks for the kind words guys!

I think you are a little on the partial side since you were nominated for best actor for your performance Mr. Spencer. @Mitch, thanks! We have a little fun in our neck of the woods.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know the Spring re-cap video is up. This one is a little long-winded but there was a LOT of cool (well, mostly cool) stuff that happened this Spring....and this video touches on a few more things than normal, like flood footage, more good tunes, more big brown trout, a massive hybrid, and the fastest caterpillar you have ever seen!

Totally Agree. Another shout out to anyone with explosives training (or without training but access to explosives) free guide trips for life to anyone who blows up Patrick Bridge and re-builds one at least 6' taller. To be dead honest you could float from Hammond to Dawt and have a shot at a striper at just about any point once you get within a mile of Rainbow Spring....this is craziness. Need to run a special on guide trips for anyone wanting to totally chase stripers throught the summer. Works pretty well because they are eating the same thing as big brown trout. Not sure what the bonus would be big brown trout or a striper....hmmmmm...... Shall we run a sample trip on Wednesday evening Justin?

Yeah Sean, I saw your truck at Kelly Saturday. Nymphing was off which is crazy to say and rarely do you hear me say that. We actually did get some solid rolls on a darker Circus Peanut too....but they LOVED the White SD and Yellow SD which is AWESOME because you can see the fly the whole time it is in the water and see the fish SMASH it. Those girls looking forward to the trip? -

I would kill to have more people that would be game for "Hero or Zero" trips with big streamers--because when it happens it gives you chills. The best compliment a guide can have is his fisherman saying "Ok, I have to sit down...I can't feel my legs" -

Had to edit that state record is 20.8 lbs. And looking at the record list they keep track of gigging and grabbing as the "alternative method." -

Yeah Mic, the state record Hybrid is something like 20 lbs.....but they don't keep fly only records that I could find. This HAS to be up there for hybrids on the fly though. The Spring 2011 video that I am editing just got a little better. -
This report has to start a week and a half ago.....bear with me. Fishing had simply been "off." Nymphing was slow, streamer fishing was slow--fishing was off. Late last week I was racking my brain trying to come up with a dependable bite since I knew I was going to be putting several days of guide trips in a row (pressure makes one better....and gives ulcers) and it just wasn't happening. We had bluebird skies and 90+ degrees for almost a week straight and very little bug movement. True, we were catching fish but they were few and far between and almost all were second year rainbows. Saturday I met my guys and was straight forward "We are going to have to earn these fish today." We put in at Kelly Ford and had a rough go with low numbers and no size, again, we caught fish but the bite was just kind of 'blah.' After we got off the river a nice rainshower came...little did I know but Mtn Grove was getting HAMMERED with 3.5 inches of rain (Mountain Grove is the upper, upper part of the watershed and if it gets hit that hard the river reacts.) Same guys Sunday. Again, we put in at Kelly Ford and immediately noticed there was more color and generally more flow. Rowed up to Lamb Shoal and drifted it several times and nothing....floated through Kelly....nothing...time for a change. We had cloud cover and I had been talking to these guys about big streamer fishing the day before so the question came up "Who wants to go Hero or Zero?" We threw a yellow Sex Dungeon on the lead guy in the boat, 15 minutes later.... We proceeded to see a big fish in every hole and run either eat, roll on, chase or eat that fly all the way to Blair with a truly massive fish chasing it all the way across the river and BLOW UP on it (think striper blitz here) but he didn't even feel it....him and I both needed a little bit of time to get our heads straight after that one. But the next drift he got a nice consolation.... Monday I had a different guy and had already talked to him about the possibility of streamers...so he came to ROLF with a 7wt in hand and ready to dance. He was really new to the big streamer thing (and totally new to the big streamer from a drift boat thing) but is a crazy-good caster. Again, Kelly to Blair and we rowed up to Lamb to get started. Nothing really happening at Lamb, which is super hit or miss anyway, so we rowed out pounding the bank with the SD until a HUGE silver streak ate. The fish took the 7wt 100' into the BACKING within a minute and it was obvious what it was..... Literally one of the largest hybrids I have ever heard of being caught on a fly. After explaining what was happening with the lake being backed up over Dawt Mill dam and that allowing Stripers, Hybrids and all sorts of other fish into the North Fork of the White we mutually agreed to harvest the fish for the conservation of the North Fork of the White's wild rainbows. On down the river we go and it is looking like the same thing is happening as the previous day...the fish just WANT the SD, period. We had several rolls and chases with a couple of eats but lost some fish and another huge fish swirled on it long enough to come tight and lose. SO MUCH FUN!! Nice Smallmouth, a nice rainbow, the huge Hybrid...but he was short a brown until.... I thought the world was coming to an end....we got to the point where we EXPECTED to see or hook the alpha fish per hole.

Hey guys, Just want to let you know we will be on another short segment with Outdoor Channel Outfitters next week. We have had an incredible year of segments from only 2 days of filming last May (most single shows are 3 days of filming and we filmed for 2 days and have hit 7 segments....stellar ) Tons of fun. Air Dates:Thursday @ 6:30am 6/16/11; Saturday @ 2:00am & @ 5:00pm 6/18/11
