i am familar with a freind of his, but never heard of this story. i too are one of the last jack guys on the river, the trade has died away. i am skilled in long trolling, mostly summer late, and fall/winter..spawnig is in jan/feb and they are scarce..i would be willing to read a copy, Al,,.i do have email, or regular address. i would be glad to pay for postage. let me know... could be a new friend??? butch

there hittin now! though i do believe the flood last week washed out the spawn, i see alot of empty beds. the fish are movin into the faster water as soon as the boat traffic picks up memorial day, they will be hard to find, except during the week. i do fish tournaments and they are always on saturday, love the tourists. if they would only cleanup after themselves,,most dont. cathin alot of fish on plastics, a few on topwater.

If were me, and you want size and some river to yourself, I would strongly consider Doniphan. There are several options as well as boat ramp ( deer leap) 8 miles above Doniphan and you can float to town. This is a little early for alot of boats but we do have enough river to not bother. I do some guide work here and have plenty of ingformation for you just ask..Oh yeah I assume a canoes is your choice,,slower river more time to work bedding areas...slowly

Hello Bleeding Shiner, actually you were looking at the aorst part down this way. Right therre at gooseneck is about the fastest. There are a cople of spots similar, about halfway down at Harrysroot, is a hard left hand turn but you can see it coming. Never the less always be careful...by the way canoeing is a little quiker I suggest topwaters and spinners,,HAVE FUN !

watcher, the current river has several tournaments a year for smallies, i suggest you enter...current river smallmouth association, call henderson auto sales in poplar bluff for info.. you have got to be greatest. i am founding member of this outfit and been to dozens of weigh-ins and you have got to be the best...

fished several hours this weekend, smallies are hard to find. little action at all. caught small fish. water seems empty still.tried plastics, crankbaits, jigs. all types water/cover. still early water temp 56 degrees. but all good, when i locate i can follow for the season..live in doniphan anyone need anything holleer....=)

went today for about 4 hours.. only caught 3 undersized smallies and 1 nice largemouth in the channel,, very surprising!.. fish arent in the prespawn yet, not even adjacent, took most on grubs one crankbait. doniphan is a little bigger and dominate smalljaw water. fish and water warm and spawn here first. gonna jackfish in the morning,,c ya.....
