Going Shocking Today
Chief Grey Bear replied to Justin Spencer's topic in North Fork of the White River
I caught that after I posted. I reread you post and it stuck me what you were saying. I really don't know how much pressure it gets. Who know's, maybe they host themselves a big trout fry once a month. And no, like I said earlier, I doubt very many of them make it all the way down. But I am sure that some do. Not that you would be able to tell one from the other by then. -

I think we have been agreeing that point the whole time. Permits are required to fish at Cloud 9 Ranch Club Fish Stocking Schedule for 2011 April 22nd, Friday -- 750lbs May 6th, Friday -- 750lbs May 20th, Friday -- 750 lbs May 27th, Friday -- 1,000 lbs June 10th, Friday -- 750lbs June 24th, Friday -- 750lbs July 1st, Friday -- 1,000lbs July 15th, Friday -- 750lbs July 29th, Friday -- 750lbs August 12th, Friday -- 750lbs August 26th, Friday -- 750lbs September 2rd, Friday -- 1,000lbs Actually there are only 12 stocking dates. Which comes out to 812.5 per stocking. And I would be highly skeptical if even one person from all 600 sites fished. If all 600 sites were full. -

No, your point was there has not been a stocker rainbow in the NFOW for 45 years. And as written, that is correct. And I agree it is not having any significant impact. Heck I don't think it is having any impact. I would guess it to be less than 1% of those stocked in Spring Creek that actually make it to the NFOW. I would also suspect that it would take some time for them to arrive also. Maybe 1-3 years. And by that time, nobody would be able to tell the difference anyway. -

I don't doubt any of that. But I bet one would be surpised at the number that migrate out of there. I have caught quite a few in the 12+ inch range. Huge??? Not by any standard. But for the size of the creek, until you get down to the lower end, a very respectable fish. That would kinda go without saying, wouldn't it??? -

Oh sure change the subject and beat up on all the tourney guys. Can't you just keep with what we are talking about. I mean jeeze, don't take is so personal and turn another great thread into lake vs. river or pro vs. wannabe, that just irks me....woops....this is not that thread is it. Sorry. That Hook, Line and Sinker, isn't that right next to the RR tracks?? I remember seeing that when I ran that line. Never did get a chance to stop in. Pretty good place huh??? If it is soft plastics or crankbait or spinner parts, its Barlow's for me. http://barlowstackle.com/ Take a look around. I think you will really like it. You can't beat some of those prices. -

Supposed to be but I haven't seen any action yet. Just went by the old Southtown bait. Heard they were going to rebuild too. Nothing but a concrete pad with a for sale sign. I wish we had a Roger's down here like in Liberty. That is a true hunting and fishing store. No running shoes or baseball bats for sale in there! No bbq grills or workout equipment. Just everything a hunter or fisherman could ever want. And lots of it! -

I checked the stocking rate for Cloud 9. They are dumping a serious amount of trout in that stream. I wouldn't think there would be much forage left in that section for all those hungry teenage trout. But I don't know what the catch rate per day is either. -

Yeah have you noticed the fishing is in what I call the basement off to one of the building??? -

True enough. But you also can't say the NFOW hasn't received any rainbow's due to stocking in the last 45 years. -

Maybe not directly or even by the MDC, but there are two private entities that are stocking the immediate watershed. It is a given that a certain percentage of these trout are finding there way to NFOW. I have caught trout in rivers that have never been stocked by the MDC or any private entity. But creeks that drain into those rivers do recieve stockings. And I have found them a signifigant distance from the original stocking area. So in a round about way, yes the NFOW is recieving a stocking of Rainbow trout. Though those numbers are most likely very small. -
Are you riding to the game with the Rangers??? I just sent you one of a pumpkin I carved. I tore that thing to pieces with my tool.

I'll quote this one before you change it again. But a simple report turned to a RM bash all to a Pro vs. Am to this is not the way I was taught to drop shot to me stating that I'll just stick to river fishing. It was the Leopard Print Ranger bashing me for saying I'll take the river over the lake. Was it wrong of me to state I'll stick with the river fishing if this is what lake fishing will do to you??? If so, I make no apologies.

Too late.

And there in lies a good point. Does asking for more gas money than you expected to pay make a person a jerk? If you expected to pay any. It was said further up the chain here that this person would rather fish a tourney with Babbler on the Rock than Martin? Well, in one sense they are right. If all you want to do is win some money, your best bet is to stay local with someone that fishes the lake most every day. But if your goal is to learn bass fishing and how to determine the different asspects, I don't know if you could be a much better teacher than Roland. Roland made his way in this sport when it was still in its infancy. There were no sponsors, or very few of them, and there was no money so to speak. If you won, you probably didn't come close to making expences. Here is man that has dedicated his life to learning bass fishing not on one lake and being the local hero, but on the north american continent. Roland earned his way. And I would suspect he expects others to do the same. And you are right Randy. If indeed he did place 12, that is pretty good. How many locals that fish the lake more than maybe once a year did he go against??? Instead of sitting in the back of the boat pouting, I would have watched every move and asked has many questions as allowed.

I think it is amazing just how resilient trees along the creeks and rivers are. It goes to show you that our strength is in our roots!

Million's???? I'd say few thousand at best. -
Everyone??? Is that what I said???? But if you take offense, then..... There is very little common courtesy on the lakes and even some rivers anymore. And that is what is bothersome to me. Are we so ate up with ourselves that we have lost all common decency??? It is not just on lakes either. If that makes you feel better. I also avoid the likes of the Elk, Current, and other popular float rivers. For the most part. I mean, everybody likes to go to the zoo once in a while. And holy cow, spend the afternoon in a trout park. Look for the fella dressed like a Cabela's model. I really enjoy watching those guy's. It is the classic 10 minute trout play for every 12 incher he hooks. All the while he is scanning the crowd just below the brim of his hat. Oh if only someone would ask him for his autograph. I just want to say to him "WOW, way to go Troutmaster! They just stocked that stupid fish this morning and you already caught him!" Wow, I sure went of the trail this time. Any way, no, not all people that use the lakes and rivers are azzholes. But I think there are more than there used to be. It just seems to me the good boy's are becoming the increasing minority. Now that is enough hijacking of this thread. If you would care to take this further, we better start another thread.

Are you sure it safe for him to have that thing!! Hope you get a couple SlimJim, I need some meat!

What do you have against bowling and Lawn Darts?????

I think I'll stick with my river fishing. This lake stuff just has way to much ego. Pro or not. Seems $$$ always gets in the way of humbleness and common sense. If you go river fishing with me, you always get the front seat and always get on the fish first. Carry on boy's, I am enjoying the read.

I'd say go ahead and post a report. I wouldn't, and haven't, waited until I was asked. I don't think anyone here does.
