The Family and I are heading down with another family (he also fly fishes)... We hope to leave KC at about 9, eat at Lamberts at about noon, drop the wives and kids off at splash/grand country and head on down... It'll probably be about 2-3 before we get there. I'll look for you.
Thanks for the advise everyone... I'll report back.
Heading down this weekend... Planning on fishing Saturday afternoon. Looks like rain...
Any ideas on how that's going to impact the fishing... (besides me getting wet )
I plan on wading up top
thanks
where's "the rock"
I was out there just below outlet two... started just before the started running water and stopped when they started the second unit...
Did very well on a heavier egg with either a olive San Juan or tan scud dropper (if that's the right term).
nothing too big but extremely fun for the first time. Thanks to Jeremy Hunt for teaching me how to cast and showing me what/where to fish..
I've been doing some research trying to understand how the generation works.
My question is, what is the maximum cfs discharge that it would be safe to wade?
I've heard opinions about # of generators running, but not in flow.
In looking at the different sites, it looks like it varies between 20 cfs to 15000 cfs.
Below is the output for today... Would any of this water be wadeable or would it be unsafe?
Thanks in advance.
In that case, K&K is just west of 87th and Antioch. I bought most of my stuff there... and there are always people there to help.
I live at 95th and Antioch so I try to stop by as often as I can.
thanks all..
there are just some really good step by step instructions on http://www.taneycomotrout.com/ Other sites have step-by-step videos!!!
Love the internet!!!
HA... no... I'm going to try to make it out this weekend or next... It was nice enough here in KC this weekend to go out to a local lake to try to learn how to cast...
It's going to be interesting on a real stream.
So here are my first 61 flies... sorry about the bad pictures, I couldn't get my flash to work in the macro setting... but you get the idea. I got a bunch of fly tying stuff for Christmas (well about 2 weeks before Christmas)...
I'm new... don't have waders yet but would like to come down there, get a guide and learn how to fly fish...
Anyone know of any of the local shops that rent waders for the day?
thanks in advance.
From those of us far away.... Thank you for posting that stuff...
And thanks for all the other step-by-step stuff on your web page... I've used it a ton since I started tying again a month ago...
So you bring up a good point. I also got some fly tying stuff for Christmas (used to tie flies years ago). I want to tie flies that I will use.
So, Besides zebra midges, scuds, sowbugs, and wooley bugers, what should be tying for Bennett (most likely to fish) and Tannycomo (less likely)?
Thanks,
So, I decided and the family bought me the TFO. I tried a few different ones including the Sage and I sucked at casting them all equally
I mean I was really bad... Oh well, I'm a quick learner... I'll pick it back up again.
I used a bit of the difference to buy a newer vice and some supplies and tied a few zebra midges... The pic below is the first.. Not too bad for the first fly in 21 years I think I need some better thread... the old stuff frays real easily.
Thanks again for everyones help.
Ok... So just got back from shopping again. They are guiding me to a Sage launch 5-9-4 for $199 and a Ross Reel and line outfit for $65.
Would it be worth the extra $80 to get the American made rod over the lower end ones?
Or should I get something like the TFO for 185 and spend the rest of my Christmas money on a fly tying class or something???
You all make good points except for fact that I havn't cast a fly rod in 21 years.
Since I don't really think I'll have a clue what feels good, should I go with even a lower end rod for now and then, once I get a clue, upgrade?
Thanks again for all the comments.
