  1. read this article in the tulsa world today, says it was close to the watts area. http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?subjectid=11&articleid=20110629_11_0_WTSAli381482 the question is, for someone better educated on the geography in the area, how close was this to the watts fishing area that we frequent?
  2. Anyone going out there and willing to show a zink newbie the waters? Ive always wanted to try and get out there but never had any luck. Willing to go spinning or fly rod. School just got out and am itchin to get my lines wet!! Saw someone wet wading over the weekend and made me wonder if it was zink time...hope i didnt miss it. My cell is 405-626-7932 and Im located near downtown tulsa.
  3. anyone know when we'll see some low water, everyday I check its generating......
  4. Tried to go fishing early this morning and thought Id give Marval a try since I hadnt been there in a long time. Greeted by a man stepping in front of my car, Im guessing the owner, saying I couldnt enter. I asked why not and he said b/c the park is full and he has over 1000 ppl there. Someone correct me if Im wrong, but I thought we were supposed to be able to go in and fish there due to the stocking program agreement. Looks like I wont be throwing any money Marvals way whenever I want to take the family to Gore. On a side note, lots of fish were caught around Watts and Dam area. They seemed to like the midges under a strike indicator. Was there about 5 hours can caught probably 15 or so fish. Better fishing today than the last couple times Ive been down there last month.
  5. Sounds awesome, What time did you get to marvel? Do they open up the gates before 630? Does size matter on the clouser? color preferences? How far of a walk was it? more than a mile or less than? Im wanting to try this striper run out as well. Thanks
  6. Glad someone did well, it was a tough day for us at Watts, took some cousins and was tough all around. I would go tomorrow but have church as well. would love to fish for some stripers.
  7. I should note that I was reading from this website http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/power/hyd...er.html#Day%200 and that 1 and 2 are the number of units being released. Looks like 2 is the max. The other generation schedule listed at the top of this form lists it in megawatts, so Im guessing 40 is 2 units and 20 megawatts is one unit...
  8. Help for a novice water generation schedule reader. Looking at the water generation schedule, Ive seen it say "1" or "2". Being there when it's a "2" I know that the water can get pretty high, high enough to flood that side stream at Watts. Does anyone know how high it gets on a "1"? Can you still wade fish in the watts area at that level? Thanks
  9. Does anyone know when Marval changed management? I did notice that the prices were a bit higher since I last visited a year or so ago.
  10. Thanks for all the info guys. I had called tenkiller state park, which they referred me to Greenleaf Resort and SnakeCreek, I guess all public facilities, but those were all full too. I prefer to stay at private local facilities when possible, so 2 rivers sounds like a good idea. I called Fred and he just has a 3 bed unit for 140+tax. Not being able to get down there until late Friday night due to work, and with checkout being at 11am(wouldnt get to use the house cept for sleeping), Church on Sunday, I guess we just have to make it a daytrip on saturday. However, this is a good resource for future trip planning!
  11. Taking some family to the lower illinois for fishing this weekend and wondering where are some good hotels to stay. I know there is Marval, but probably full on short notice, and Fin and Feather, which is about 100$, is there anywhere else? Thanks in advance
  12. anyone have a guess on the weight? I can estimate largemouths pretty well, but not very experienced with the trout. It was approx 22 inches, cork handle to a little past the first rod guide.
  13. thanks, which guy were u? (what were you wearing?) olive bugger that I just learned how to tie! it was ugly but I guess effective. I had tied 3 but was down to my last one...(whew)
  14. Went fishing on 7/15. Was looking for striper action, started by the dam, but didnt catch anything. Swapped out for my 6wt and went for trout. Biggest trout of my life. Im hooked on fly fishing now. Lucky for me I had my camera phone and that I found someone quickly to snap a pic. Almost thought the rainbow wasnt going to make it because she was turning sideways, but with the help of a friendly angler, we were able to get her off and swimming. I guess I shouldve gotten her in quicker but I was being cautious to not break her off. Want to say thanks to all the members of the board that helped with the fly fishing education thus far, looking forward to getting better.
  15. I was there when the doors opened but I guess I was looking in the wrong spot, didnt see any of the single fly rods until I saw some ppl carrying them around....10$, wish I wouldve gotten my hands on a couple. Still got some fly reels for 5, 10, and 20 dollars.
