This is a post to share oar setup on a river boat. This is my setup, feel free to post yours as well. This setup was on a 'budget', you could easily upgrade the oar shafts, but these do fine. 1. From Cascade Outfitters: www.cascadeoutfitters.com a. 8' to 11' (9ft is my length) Carlisle Oar Shaft : 2 b. Carlisle Outfitter Blades: 2 c. Carlisle Stopper Sleeve: 2 d. Oar Right: 2 2. From NRS Web: www.nrsweb.com a. NRS Standard Open Oar Locks (#1407):2 b. NRS Frame Oar Mount(#1214):2 c. NRS Frame U-Bolt(#1216):2 d. CATARACT Oar Counter Balance Sleeves(#1390):2 *HIGHLY RECOMMEND COUNTER BALANCES. Keeps the oar blades just below the surface and helps reduce fatigue. Unless you buy higher end oars that are already "counterbalanced". The Oar Mounts are attached to the handrails. The U-bolt size depends on the thickness of your handrails, so you may just want to purchase u-bolts at a local hardware store that fits and drill the necessary holes into your Oar Mounts. Regarding protecting the handrails, you can use a thin sheet of rubber underneath the mount Thanks, Chris

Best Fiberglass Jon Boat

I had them only put two rod trays on one side of the boat to hold my fly rods. They definitely saved me from breaking rod tips. But I think 4trays(2 on each side of the boat) would be overkill and take up too much space (IMPO). It's a wireless trolling motor and YES; you're statement "Plus, Plus, Minus, Minus, Left, Left, Left, Right, etc." cracked me up! Plus, the beeping drives me absolutely insane. I'm tempted to remove the speaker. -

It’s actually easier than you would think, but not as nimble as a drift boat. Plus, something to be said for just drifting down the river without any engine noise; and wade fisherman definitely appreciate it. Extremely easy to install as well, if you have handrails. Only problem is, I find myself rowing a lot while my friends fish; joys of being a boat owner I guess. I think the best bet is to be a friend of a boat owner Being a friend of a boat owner, you don’t have to deal with maintenance, fiberglass repair, insurance costs, owning a truck instead of a civic, asking for gas money, and the benefits are endless Below is a shot of the oar locks: Another cool gadget I found: McGuard makes locking knuts for your motor mounts(http://www.mcgard.com/marine/outboard.asp) Thanks, Chris -

I have a Supreme 2060 with a Mercury 4Stroke 25hp Jet EFI and have really enjoyed it. I purchased it from Bearskin Marine just down the road from the Supreme Shop. It took about 2.5mths to receive it; which seemed like forever, but worth the wait I would recommend the folding trailer hitch as well. The boat is 20'6'' plus the trailer, need lots of room to store it. I like having the jet, but the best install has been oars. Phil Landy was nice enough to explain his set up, and I ordered the Oars, Locks, etc. from http://www.nrsweb.com/. My main problem with the jet is debris on the water's surface. For example, when the leaves start falling you'll learn this quick enough. But for me, the Pros outway the cons of a jet on the Little Red. The 4Stroke is significantly quieter and doesn't suck the gas like the 2strokes; but they're heavier. Feel free to stop me, if you see me on the Little Red. THanks, Chris www.arkansasflyfishers.com -

Chesapeake Operating, Inc, diverting water from the Little Red River
cmo replied to cmo's topic in Little Red River
I dunno, just received the following forward of a letter and concerned. May 18, 2007 Mrs. Elaine Edwards Little Rock District Corps of Engineers Regulatory Office Post Office Box 867 Little Rock AR 72203-0867 Dear Mrs. Edwards: RE: Application No. 20790 My name is Jed Hollan. I am the manager of the Little Red Fly Shop, on the advisory council to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and President of the local chapter of Trout Unlimited. As you may know, TU is an organization with 500 chapters and 150,000 members nationwide. We are keenly interested in the preservation and conservation of trout fisheries. TU National also works at the state and federal level, providing a voice for fish and coldwater resources, strengthening existing protections and challenging new threats to trout and salmon. We have questions about Application No. 20790 from Chesapeake Operating, Inc. of Oklahoma City and their plans to divert water from the Little Red River to be used in a gas drilling operation. We would like to know how much water will be diverted, what time of year this project will begin diverting river water and what will be done with the water after it has been used by the drilling operation? We are also concerned with the plan to leave an 80 foot long, 4 foot in diameter iron pipe in the river. The deterioration of this pipe over time will produce unwanted by-products (oxides) into the habitat. Can a water well produce adequate flow for the purposes envisioned for the river water? Are there plans to construct other similar facilities elsewhere along the Little Red? I would like to request a public hearing to consider the application. The reasons for the meeting have to do with the possibility of negative environmental impacts to the Little Red River. We put in at Dripping Springs. However, the boat traffic was insane. I think everyone had the same idea. P.S. How annoying is it when people float just behind you! I kept having to kick the trolling motor on to get distance.

Jeremy, Do you have a jack plate & prop guard on your boat? Do you like to fish for Rainbows or Browns? Or, don't really care, just want to catch trout? :-) I'd recommend calling Ozark Angler or stop by on the way and get there recommendation. The Generation Schedule number is: 501-362-5150 or 918-595-6779. I can email a map to you. My email is cmorri30@gmail.com. My wife and I drifted this past Sunday for 3 hours with a dropper rig of Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear nymphs. We just went for Rainbows.
