  1. If you go where we were without permission you will be trespassing. All the fish swam away after we put them back in the water. Its my decision to tell people where I am and where I caught fish thats why this forum is here. I saw a guy in my hole the last time I was at the James and I hoped he would catch as many fish as I had. Plus I didn't catch these trout with a rod a reel. I used ELECTRICITY!!!!!!!!
  2. Here's the pics of the fish. I guess there were spots on the female. Just didn't remember them.
  3. Fished Sunday afternoon from 4-6pm just down from Hootentown. Caught around 15 smallies two over 14 inches. Didn't get into the spots or largmouth like I usually do there but still caught some decent fish.
  4. The big male we caught was probably a McCloud if you look at the top of him he almost looked like a Brown, big hooked jaw and very dark spots on top. The big female looked like a big stocker not very many spots. I saw the pics today and hopefully the guy e-mails me them soon so I can post them.
  5. Its in MO. The river starts out SW of Aurora and flows north till just above Mt. Vernon then starts west just about following 96 HWY through Carthage and around Joplin. Then circles down through KS and into OK
  6. Yes same river. This is up by the headwaters just past Aurora. There used to be a hatchery upstream in the 70s?? I guess there is a self sustaining population now.
  7. Went to the Spring River today with the MSU Icthyology class field trip to seine and shock right under the 60 bridge. In years past we have always shocked little rainbows and wondered where are the big ones. Well today we found out. We pulled out three today, with the largest a big female pushing 5lbs and around 24in. a big male around 18in and a smaller one around 12. I was expecting some in the 12in range but man when we got that behemoth man that was wild. All three were released to live another day. Got some pics taken and as soon as I get them I will post them.
  8. I know its a ways off but its on my mind. How is the fishing in January. Always go down to Tulsa for the Chili Bowl and need something to do in the afternoons that won't drain the bank account. Thanks
  9. What was your friend using with the spinning rod? Thanks
  10. I just had my first experience with a kayak and loved it. Rented one from Current River Outfitters and went on a small 6 mile float last week. Took awhile to get used to but after the first 15-20min I was in heaven fishing on that kayak.
  11. Thanks that could come in handy
  12. I've done it before with friends and the dept at school is getting a river boat. Just wanted to go gig some suckers after we shock some fish this fall.
  13. Its either a banded or mottled sculpin. Very good to have in these guys in the water. Both as food for big browns and other fish. The more diversity in the river the better, except asian carp.
  14. Sorry, sucker gig
  15. Is there anywhere around here to get a good deal on some gigs? Thanks
  16. Its basically what I think of a trout park except its private instead of the Conservation Dept. pay you fee catch your trout.
  17. Here's a link to a pdf about gravel mining in Missouri streams http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/pages/conse...ng_research.pdf
  18. Went out Sunday night around 10. Took us awhile to find out that the fish were just about a foot or two under the surface but we did manage to catch about 15. Nothing great but had fun. At 11:30 everything stopped like a light switch went off.
  19. Wanting to head there Sunday night and was wondering if anybody has heard of any crappie being caught under the bridge? Thanks
  20. Just got back from downtown and wish I would of had my flyrod with me. Bugs were crazy on the top. Just using power worms and powerbait and only caught one. Tried a small rap on the surface but that wasn't working.
  21. Any body see the new record bullhead? Over five pounds, man that thing was huge. I would post a pic of it but I can't find one on the internet.
  22. Going camping up there this weekend wondered if anybody was fishing this river and how it has been. Thanks
  23. Had a great time on the river yesterday. Got up early and searched for a place to fish away from our campground. Low and behold we end up at our take out point for our float. Caught three really nice bass, two smallies and a spot out of one little hole largest was 12". Caught some little smallies after that along with some longears. We were using black and orange Mepps spinners. Got on the river about 9:30 and took the rod with me. River wasn't really that crowded had to fight with my wife wanting to paddle instead of the other canoes. Caught some good Spots and Longears then about half way through the float we found the honey hole. A small spring entered the river and a downed tree was up against the bank. Whoo hooo caught about 6 or 7 Spots along with some good longears and bluegill and a nice 15" rainbow. Plus there was an even bigger rainbow in there that I missed a couple of times. Was using an orange beetle spin.
  24. Thanks for the report. I planned on fishing during at night and early in the morning and just enjoying the float during the day. Hopefully we can pull some fish out of the river.
  25. Is it going to be crazy busy like the Niangua? Should I just plan to fish early and late? Also how is the water levels, a little low? What baits are working also? Thanks a bunch
