I waded around Point Royale last weekend and had a blast catching rainbows (drifting egg patterns, deep). But, since the water was running some, I was pretty limited to where I could fish. I was wondering if anyone has experience with kickboats (like a personal pontoon boat)? I've been toying with the idea for a while for other smallmouth/trout fishing (say 11 pt), and wondered if you all thought it could work on Taneycomo. Thanks the advice. (And I appologize if this a repeat topic, but I didn't it didn't turn up when I searched the archives.)

Given the recent big flood and forecasted rain, I didn't know what to expect today. However, Montauk zone 1 is fishing great: lots of fish, and a few nice ones. The crowd was way down too. The river is higher than normal (check the USGS hydrograph) and the water is an off-green color. All of my action was subsurface: heavily weighted olive wooly buggers, olive bugger mohair leaches, and glo-bugs (especially glo-bugs). If you're dead drifting, you'll want to use plenty of weight and/or split shot. I fished a peach glo-bug with 2 #8 splitshot most of the day. I didn't see many any risers, and only a few caddis. Glo-bugs might not be your "preferred" way to fish, but they are very effective in this water and it beats staying home or getting skunked! PS: if your favorite hole is above the dam, you will want to know that some parts of the hole have filled it, while other parts seem much deeper. Certainly more of it is accessible by wading, and if you fly fish, you don't necessarily have to cast far to hit the fish.

My uncle purchased a Wakefield bamboo fly rod at an estate sale. Anyone ever heard of that brand? I've searched for the name on the internet, but struck out.
