  1. We will shuttle you, but you do need to make a reservation before coming because it is too slow that time of year to just hang around the shop. The trout fishing can be quite good. The trout should be spawning around then, so avoid fishing the redds, but you can do well fishing just below them, catching the egg eaters. You could float down to White's creek float camp and then use the trail to hunt in the Irish Wilderness and then float out 7 miles to Riverton when finished.
  2. It is LOW and getting Lower every day. Pretty soon you will be pulling through just about every shoal. By labor Day it will be quite low and unless you are willing to pull down just about every shoal, it won't be worth it. The smallmouth fishing has been hit and miss lately. Anything below Greer will have plenty of water.
  3. Thanks for the kind words, glad you had a good time.
  4. Awesome job Brian. It was a good show.
  5. Got a couple of guys, Wilson and Jay, out on the river on Friday. The fishing was great! Same old story, stoneflies and crawdads fished deep were the key. Lots of 12-16 inch rainbows were caught and released. We did really well in all the areas where there were drop offs in shoals to the deeper runs with current that were up to 8 ft deep. Great guys to spend the day with and a good time was had by all.
  6. I do guided fly fishing in a drift boat on the Eleven Point if you are interested. Oct is a great time to be on the river here. Cane Bluff to Greer is great smallie water, though the water may be lower than you would want in Oct. Greer to Riverton has about 20 miles of trout water after that. Feel free to contact me via my web site @ www.11pointcanoe.com or call 417-778-6497.
  7. It was true. A young guy from Birch Tree caught it. Check out this link. http://www.summersvillebeacon.com/sports.php 27 inches and 14.88lbs. That is one fat fish.
  8. Took a regular customer, Barry and his niece Stephanie, out in the drift boat. the fishing was good with about 30 fish landed and a number of other "quick releases". The key was being deep, as per usual. Stoneflies and Don's crawdad did really well as did a 1/16th oz white marabou jig fished under an indicator. Stephanie landed an 18.5 incher that was fat and beautiful on the jig and Barry hooked a bigger one than that, that made a run that ended with a three foot jump that broke the line upon impact with the water. It rained on us for an hour or so at the end of the day. The water this morning had come up about 5 inches and turned brown. It appears, having just gotten back from Thomasville, that the worst of the water has left the upper river. Meaning that we should crest soon. That being said, fishing should be tough until the first of the week, barring anymore big rains. It was great fun to spend the day with Barry and Stephanie.
  9. The river is fishing well, you should catch fish. Remember, fish DEEP, and you will do better.
  10. Only if you younger than 16.
  11. It is no big deal. Just don't hug the left bank and make sure you are not sideways and you will bounce through. No big deal.
  12. Got out with Ben from LA and Stu from St. Louis for a guide trip Tuesday. RAIN was the theme of the day. We were rained on all day with about a 30 minute break. It was crazy. Between bailing the boat and trying to keep water out of my rain gear, the guys caught a lot of fish. No monsters, but lots of quality fish from 12-15 inches. Stoneflies, eggs and squirrel nymphs were key and as usual, right on the bottom. If you are not hanging the bottom now and then, you are cheating yourself out of fish. Despite the weather, a good day with nice guys.
  13. 1st gravel bar below Turner on right side is good. It is directly across from stinking pond. Great camp site there.
  14. Got out Monday and Tuesday and the fishing was quite good. Monday I went out with the winner of the auction trip, Larry and his buddy from Hargroves, Craig. It was a pleasure to be out there with those guys.Fishing was particularly good in the morning and just good in the afternoon with a couple of slower periods. Lots of fish caught though.Stoneflies, eggs and crawdads worked well fished deep. A "psycho legged" squirrel nymph that Craig brought tore them up as well, as did the Carl's crawdad that Larry brought. I think I might start carrying them if I can. Three wild fish were in the mix including a 16-17 incher. Great guys and a fun day. Thanks again for everything Larry. Tuesday we did well also. A couple of novices from the boothill, Steve and CP went out. Eggs did the trick as did the Don's crawdad fished deep again. Took a while to get the hang of landing fish, but plenty of fish landed and a pleasant day. A good time was had by all.
  15. Greer to 142 is 29 miles and the Riverton to 142 stretch is mostly smallie water. There are smallies everywhere though.
  16. bvp81 Greer to 142 would another option.
  17. It is getting lower and slower, but should be fine. I have guys float/fishing it today.
  18. Well it is 7:43 am and I am checking the results of the auction. Snowfly, congratulations and a big thank you, you are making a donation to a good cause. Now the big question is, when do you want to go? The fishing has been picking up and will continue to get better through the summer and into the fall. Call me to set up a date to fish at 417-778-6497. Thanks again! Brian Sloss
  19. Took a guide trip yesterday with a couple of novice fly fishermen from West Plains, Joe and son Tye, and they did pretty darn well. Both caught a good number of fish with Joe landing a beautifully colored 17 incher. Stoneflies were the order of the day with squirrel nymphs, eggs and San Jauns also accounting for a few fish. If we were not hooking the bottom now and then, we were not deep enough. By the end of the day, both were handling a two fly rig and catching fish. The last hour and a half the fishing slowed as the sun got the hottest. Two great guys to spend the day with and a good time was had by all.
  20. Only a couple of days left to make a bid guys. Highest bid when I check this thread on the 1st wins.
  21. Thanks guys. Superfly, Just got back in town from dealing with some family business, gott a disc for you with lots of pics from that day doing the article. A few pics are destined for frames as well.
  22. I sell worms at my shop in Alton at the intersection of hwy 19 and 160. I sell minnow traps as well. Feel free to come on by.
  23. Fishing right on the bottom will produce more, especially in the shoals. Fish some of the deeper water with current between shoals as well and you'll get a few extra fish. I always run a dropper off the stone. Sorry about the agent, that was a low rent question. One of my employees pulled that canoe out for the other outfitter whose canoe was lodged at Turners.
  24. I have gotten out a few times lately on my own and guide trips. The river has been going up and down a lot lately, though no flooding. It is a little high today, but very fishable with a green stain. The key recently has been getting deep given the higher water. As long as you are not shy with your weight, you should do fine. I have had a few wild fish lately including 3 in the 17-18 inch range that fought like they had never seen an hook. San Jauns, stoneflies, crawdads and marabou jigs have been key. Sorry for the lack of reports, I've been too busy. Gonna fish a little tonight though.
  25. Bidding has seemed to stall out, so I thought I would throw in a reminder that I will take bids until the 30th and the high bid when I check this thread the morning of July 1 will have the winning bid. The fishing has been picking up and late summer or fall trips are great times go.
