  1. I know this isn't a fishing post, but I thought some of you guys would be interested none the less. On April 26, 2014, the Eleven Point Canoe Rental is going to host a canoe race on the Eleven Point river from Greer to Riverton (20 miles). This will be a celebration of our 10th anniversary in business along with a fund rasier benefiting the Friends of the Eleven Point River. The "friends" are working on the Greer Mill restoration and a portion of every entry is going to that project. We plan to have a post race BBQ, live music, beer/soda tent, raffle etc. You can find all the details at www.11pointcanoe.com and then click on the Great 11 Point canoe race icon. This will be a fun celebration for a good cause and I hope everyone will consider joining in.
  2. I might come, but it would be just on Sat to fish and then head straight back home. If I can make it, I will look forward to meeting some of you guys.
  3. Pretty much Mark. Gravelly areas areas with current, not always by the bank, more often near the bank.
  4. I guided both Sat and Tues. Sat there were a lot of fisherman and floaters out for a Sat in Nov on the Eleven Point and though we caught plenty of fish, you could tell the added pressure did slow the fishing a bit. Still we had a 21 inch fish landed. Tues, no other people and the fishing was noticeably easier and we had an 18 inch male landed that was beautifully colored and ready to start the dance of love. Speaking of which, Sat we saw our first spawning redds of the year, but in only one place. By Tues there was spwning going on in a second location as well. On both occassions on Tues there was an eagle hanging out in a tree about 15 ft above the redds. What I am getting at is, between the stress the act of the spawn takes, plus other predation stresses, please leave actively spawning fish alone and don't get out and walk around in the areas of the redds if you can avoid it. We need these fish to have as much success as possible spawning and recovering from doing so to keep a strong fishery going.
  5. White's Creek is the way to go for what you are doing.
  6. Thanks Phil, I have not used Flickr in so long that I forgot my passwords and such. Thanks again
  7. You got dumped on Sat, that was a heavy rain.
  8. I'll try again later, I attached to the post and it did not show up, I'll try again later if I can remember how to do it.
  9. Took a guide trip today and we had the biggest trout caught so far this Fall. She took a prince nymph, which caught fish all day. Stoneflies and marabou jigs did well also. Every thing was caught by fishing deep. Also caught a few swinging a olive wooly bugger through a few of the shoals. The morning was better though the big one came around 1 pm, which was a bit surprising. Steve fought this big fish like a champ, hopefully the pic I attached will show up when I post this.
  10. What I stated above is the case, the accesses are open, but Greer campground is closed (boat ramp open though), bathrooms are closed and water is off at Greer. There are signs up saying saying funding has been cut off, but you can recreate here, but no facilities or services are available. That is the way they are doing it now. I was told I can still guide and put canoes in, so that is what I am doing.
  11. I enjoyed spending the day with you guys as well, looking forward to your next visit this winter.
  12. As of right now, we are seeing a little change due to the shutdown. The Greer campground is closed and I understand the water will be getting turned off. The bathrooms will be locked up I was told as well. From what I was told last night, but not from the ultimate source, all the day use areas will be open and the Greer day use was open at 11 this morning. So unless something changes, it looks like the river will remain open, minus the aforementioned services.
  13. If he was bragging that much, you can probably subtract 4 inches from the size of the fish too. Still a hog of a fish. It is a never ending battle to get people to follow the regs, which is as simple as reading the sign at the put in. No excuses in my mind.
  14. Following the early August flood, the fishing has been good. The trophy area is fishing well and will continue to do so well into Nov. Stoneflies, Prince nymphs, Don's Crawdads, marabou jigs, etc fished deep are all producing and the Hexes are starting to show up in the evenings. No dry fly action as usual, but the nymph should work. The White ribbon area is fishing well too and the same stuff should work. The bonus this fall is Cane Bluff to Greer is floatable and the fishing has been pretty good.
  15. Thomasville to Cane has not been cleared of trees and I don't think they will be doing it this late in the season, but if you want you can call 573-996-2153 and ask them. I already have, so it would be better if someone else called to request it. I am not putting my boats up there until I know it is alright, cause I don't want to have to do a rescue up there and salvage a boat if there is a nasty blockage. Cane to Greer is doable now.
  16. The river will be fine by early Sept. It is basically running at about early May levels now, with a little stain.
  17. River got out of its banks yesterday and last night. Look up the gauge. Hopefully it will be high but fine, but too early to say for sure just yet.
  18. It was great having your troop down again this year, see you in a couple of weeks.
  19. With all this high water, there is a silver lining for smallmouth anglers. The upper river should become floatable for a while after the waters recede more. Hopefully we can get the forest service to clear a route and then I would bet there might be some good smallie fishing on the upper river.
  20. Don't go this weekend, they are flooded. Contact Justin at Sunburst ranch for ideas on when would be a good time.
  21. Got another wave of water not showing on the gauge yet, I'll know more on Fri about levels.
  22. Mark, Looks like Cane Bluff may be floatable again soon, though there may be some new trees to watch out for after this rain.
  23. Have not put anyone up there in weeks due to levels. It will be fine as long as you don't mind pulling through a number of shoals (no, I don't know how many shoals). The holes don't have much or any flow. Upside, smallmouth will be concentrated around structure and a little easier to find.
  24. I saw most of it. He had a congressman from Wyoming on and guess what, they both hate gov't and don't trust Obama and the whole thing is a plot to take your land and first born(yes, a bit exaggerated). He had no guest on to say they we for the designation. Is that any kind of surprise.
  25. 4th of July at Bayou will be crazy with canoes. Try early morning there before the canoes get to you, then head up river to Lassiter Access where there are no canoes.
