  1. I transfered the frame lines to pcs. of 1/4'' ply. and then made the frames off these. This is the frame layout looking from the front. And this is looking from the back. I will finish building the stiff back (12' box beam) to mount the forms on and see how the strips take shape. It should be quite an experience being I have never done this before..
  2. To any one interested in building one let me know. Here is a cool site of inspiration lots of home built pics. http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=71 Check out "post you're boat pics. http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=121350 The Old Town Vapor 12XT Angler is another boat at the Bass Pro Shop I like. Here are my drawings. And a pic. of a 10' version The wood sorce very old (8' cedar fence pickets) is not what you would call ideal but it was free, being on a tite budget. I was amazed at how cedar weathers away not rots over time leaving the center like new. And the work begins.Riping into 1'' wide strips. Then into 1/4'' strips X the 1'' A pic. of part of the (off fall) waste...
  3. Thanks for the reply...That fact cuts down on the fishing pressure..
  4. Hay Brian would you trade for one? http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24801 Water scamp 2 and trolling motor
  5. I haven't been out their since my Dad fished it back in the 70's when we lived in Grandview. We would slip a john boat down the steep bank to do some fishing back then. Is it accessible at these ponds to put one on with out great difficulty?
  6. Hay ( JustFishin) a canoe is dwarfed on that big water..Like the width of the Missouri River...Looks like a good place for those bigger wood drift boats that have the ors. Our rivers look like creeks in comparison...up-close-and-personal...yet lovely ..every winding mile...LOVE IT.
  7. My (snag monster) look-out...
  8. Pvc pipe with a T drilled out to slide back and forth for the foot to push against and bungee cords to keep tension on the cord... And the pull rope to release the catch to be able to raise and lower the motor..... And the speed controll head is just bungeed in-place.
  9. Shoal Creek never fished their before, at least that I know of having been born in Joplin. I bet Mom and Granddad fished their though. Looks like a real good time..one to remember..like an (Indian summer weekend) Last weekend would have been an excelent time to be on the Little Niangua which is two and 1/2 hrs from Bates City. Instead we were in Lathrop for the Living History Festival with the Indian Councel of Many Nations we belong to. our lodge
  10. Hay don't feel like it when motoring (up-stream)..Ha.Ha.
  11. Well I decided to yank the trolling motor off the canoe and stick it on the kayak but this time I want foot control to free up my hands. Not going with any electronic device it will be rope and pulleys. And to raise the motor I will just push both feet forward. I mounted the plate with 3- 1/4'' bolts with T-nuts into solid framing below the deck, with rubber off old shocks. I need to come up with an idea to route the rope through the deck, maybe a nylon pc. drilled out at an angle. And then run pulleys along under the deck sides.
  12. Good lookin mods. looks like you used Ash. Slick idea...
  13. Could this be it....http://chotaoutdoorgear.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=34_40&products_id=63&osCsid=ba8c4087aea7bc0436a5b976e80326dd
  14. Thanks guys, man I never want to leave their, you who've been their know what I mean. Want to go back this weekend....
  15. Fishing was good...The kayak did well. The 3 biggest were 14''-15'' The sis and her boy friend, I am trying to get him interested in building one.
  16. Well the rain-x dosen't last but maby 15 minutes. I will try wax...
  17. Well going down to initiate the new boat into what it was created for. Think I'll stop and see Mike at green mills campground, havent seen him in a few yrs. Think I'll put in at fiery fork and go down to that low water ,slab bridge, havent fished their in a few yrs. Go visit Mom in Wheatland also, she has the Pom. river in her back yard. My sis and her boyfriend want to go to the sprint car races Sat. night, I think I'd rather be sitting arround a campfire on the creek bank myself...
  18. A little humor on replies to this subject on a boat building forum: Hey you might just be on to something. I mean, with the way it repels water, you could maybe just hold the paddle in the water and it would repel itself upstream. I'd experiment though. I'd try putting Rain-X only on one side. That way I'd have more control over which direction I went..... cover yourself in rain x, so when you capsize, it just beads off... You're just going to go in circles like NASCAR unless you do that other paddle.... Yeah, if you put it on the soles of your shoes you wont even need that boat n stuff!
  19. This would be a cool video: to dunk the paddles in a tub of water side by side and see just how fast the water washes right off the treated one when you lift them up, truly amazing. I wonder if silicone spray would do the same thing. Or a paste wax. Either way I am carrying this rain-x concentrate in the car for more than just the windshield.
  20. I put Rain-X on one of the paddles and tested it in my hot tube, as I raised it up it drips dry so fast water barley had time to reach the drip ring, I wonder how long it would stay on the paddle. Wow the other paddle just holds the water like a film of water sticks to it. Any one use this? I was considering making a spray skirt for my kayak just for this reason.
  21. I want to sell the two seats I made...$20. each
  22. Well took it out yesterday to a local lake with just me in it. Headed up a feeder creek and it got really shallow like a finger's depth and it still wasn't touching, assume the water mark on the hull with just me is 3". One thing I have learned is paddling with a double ended paddle brings water into my lap, even with the drip rings, because the cockpit is 24" wide. I guess the next project will be some kind of fabric deck (spray cover) that ought to be a challenge...
  23. With 2 of us 300+ lbs. it was really responsive and tracked good also. It was kind of breezy yet we could get it going pretty good into the head wind. It turns a lot easier than the 17'Osagen I have. I am curious to see how it does as a solo.
  24. First time in the water...It just so happens this Sat. the 11th they had a kayak class behind the store in the pond. Perfect time to show off and initiate the boat.
  25. Playing around with the homemade camcleat... Cam cleat made from nylon and the spring from a clothes pin, and 3/8 plywood for a base. This will grab the anchor line and hold it from slipping.
