We took both her and the kayak for a first time float on Prairie Lee here in KC. She is 13 and has never kayaked , or paddled before...After a couple hrs. she could back paddle and drag paddle to turn etc. being I took her on an obstacle course off the main lake ...

Glassed the outside.... Mixed graphite powder in the epoxy for the fill coats.... A black hull with a tan skinned deck should look good

Well the same as a cedar boat reinforced with fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin...the final coats on the bottom is a mixture of graphite powder and epoxy...which prevents rocks from grabing and gouging.....Wood boats are tough...

A look at the type of kayaks that take to the water on tuesday....we paddle from the main marina down the lake to the next boat launch..about 2 1/2 miles then back...

We start at 6:30 and are back at the ramp by 8:30 ....

All wired up and ready for epoxy tack welds.....

Jim I picked up the birch this morning..the 1/8'' has 3 plys and is going to work great...

Using free plans I decided to build the 7yr. old grandson a kayak.... http://yostwerks.com/Kidarka.html But instead of a Skin on Frame I'm building it out of 1/8'' Baltic birch plywood...One 5'X5' sheet should do it.... The frames attached to the stifback... I added 1/2'' strips to increase the beam to 20'' and to be able to mark the cardboard templates... The bow is the tricky part...

With kayaks in toe I wandered over to Kernoodles Sat. and a guy at one of the entrances said they were closed....

Did I mention this is my first year with a paddle craft on any of these lakes.... This post is more a warning to others....I guess I should ask is their is any other lakes in Mo. with such regs. A friend of mine who has put his bass boat on these lakes for years didn't even know you needed a sticker on a canoe... So he is lucky with the Pirogue ()we just built....

The second fine came yesterday...I took a single moms younger teen fishing at Prairie Lea mainly because I could get out of the wind and test out the tandem Perogue, and their very rarely is a park ranger their.... We went up the creek around from the old launch ramp for some quiet fishing for a couple hrs....then back at the ramp we started unloading , well I got the idea to see if he wanted to try the narrow kayak..My mistake was not having one boat out before i put the other one in, I had velcro on the back of the sticker to switch between boats..... Any way he just paddled around the launch ramp for less than 10 min. and a ranger shows up and notices no sticker on the kayak ...

Reduced to $600........need to pay some Jackson County Lake kayaking tickets....

My dad worked at TWA back then....we had a 15' wood runabout with a 70 hp. merc.. Dad had a friend Bill ,who turned out to be part owner of Magic Woods back then, and he built a wood runabout .... One day at that lake his wife was pulling him on skies and collided with another lady pulling a skier....The result Bill built another boat...Man the times back in 64-65....
