  1. The only time I use a sink tip or a sinking line is down past fall creek in the deeper water. Up top from pr to the cable I just use a floating line 9'-12' leader and weight on my flies. Good luck If I did not have a guide trip Thursday I would fish with you guys. Michael
  2. That is exactly why I'm going tonight I'm so fed up with moon. I talked with Matt the other day here in the store and he said that the survey went prety good. He said the biggest Brown he had in his boat was a 27" and the biggest Rainbow was a 26". They surveyed from the rokingchair on down, could not go any higher because of the water level.
  3. I'd like to know what crystal ball you are looking at.lol I do hope that is better. I may come down if I do I will not be there untill 1am. Michael

  8. Jeff, I understand your frustration with the night thing. Nothing against Leonard, myself or anybody eles that guides down there at night, but I think that there are enough of us that fish down there at night could help. I log about 125-150 nights/year on Taneycomo and I have to say it has been years since I have seen Taney like it has been the last couple of weeks. It could just be my style of fishing I love to streamer fish and thats it that all I will do. There have been a couple of freinds that have been trying to talk me into nymphing at night with the lighted indicators, I know that it works but just can't bring myself to try something new. A very good frind of mine was down Friday night and that's how Rick was fishing and has been doing it for years. When we came back to the parking lot around 3am he came up to see how was and I said not good only one fish. He said that he had 8-9 fish. So there you have it sometimes it's great and other times it bad. The mohair leechs work awesome and are probally my number 1 go to fly. At night I will use the blood red, evil leperchon, jungle juice, black, and white. I will let the fish dictate how fast to strip them in. Some nights it is fast and some nights it is slow. Another good pat is the Muddler minnow when the fish are hitting the surface at night thats when I will use them. A couple more and I will shut up the Bunny leech size 6-10 red, black, purple. And the Zonkers same size and color. I usually will fish these flies all down stream and strip back up stream sometimes I will fish them on the swing. If you would like I will be down on friday night and we could get together and I would love to show you ways to fish Taney at night. I have guide trip Tuesday and Thursday night but would love to fish with you on friday night. Michael
  9. Leonard, Glad to here the dubbing you bought from me is working out. I have so much luck on the blood red and evil leperchon. For everybodies info I have ran out but we have reordered the stuff to make the custom mix and it should be back on the wall for sale by the end of next week. I hope that everyone has a safe holiday. Michael
  10. The midges I used were a #14 bomber and a #16 buzzer; the San Juan worms I used were about 2 1/2" in length. Most of the fish I caught were on the San Juan worms, no particular color really produced anymore than the other, though it did help to used a visible color to sight fish. Tippet used was 5X standard Frog Hair. The best two areas were the Rocking Chair hole until a drift boat came through and took it over and from the rebar hole to the #2 outlet. I was primarily looking for big browns to try at night. I saw about 10 in the 24" class and one nice healthy female fish in the 27" class, which I figured was about 7 - 8 pounds below the #2 outlet. No real monsters yet, maybe some will show up with this cooler weather setting in. jim Ming, give it up, it is just a waste of time. People only believe what they want to.
  11. Yes I have them in my store. Stop by anytime and cast any one of them that you want to. Michael
  12. Fished Sunday from 7 am to 1 pm. Very few people on the river. Fished several areas between the #2 outlet and the boat ramp. Fished with midges and San Juan worms with great success. Caught a total number of 51 fish, a good mix of browns and rainbows. A couple of rainbows were pushing the 20" range. Could of had more but stopped fishing because of the storm front that came through. jim
  13. rouges Rainbow colored
  14. Yes the Lamson Reels have made changes and it is for the better. I will be ordering the new reels next week. I'm not sure when the new ones will be in. I have been told that I may discount them so from now untill the old models are gone they are 15% off. Michael
  15. Hello All, We would like to take this time and thank everyone for attending the seminar. We hope that everyone was able to learn something. Again thanks for comming to the seminar. Michael, Jim, Terry
  16. Hello all This is just a freindly reminder of the Fly Fishing Taneycomo Seminar, that will be held at Backcountry Outfitters Monday night at 7pm. If you are not sure where the shop is located here is the address so that you may get the dirrections from mapquest, 1316 East Battlefield Springfield Missouri 65804. I hope to see everyone there. Michael
  17. River Runner I think that you are making a wise choice when it comes to the rod weight a 9'5wt is a great choice because it can be used for a lot of diffrent styles of fishing both warm and coldwater. One thing that you might consider is the TFO signature series. The rod is $89, a nice Okuma reel with line would be $59 for a toatl of $149.00. The rods are great and cast very easy and handle fish great. Plus the big advantage with the TFO rod is that they have a LIFETIME WARRINTY on them no questions asked. The repair charge is $20.00. The 4pc Hobbs Creek is $106 and the 2 pc is $96 plus tax. If you break that rod you are out the $96 or the $106. I did call and ask about their warrinty and they said they do not carry a no fault warrinty with the rods. They only have a 1 year warrinty if it is a manufactures defect. Just food for thought, I wish you luck in finding and buying a new rod and reel. Michael
  18. If anyone is interested, here is the location for a good topo map of Fellows Lake. It is in Adobe. If you want to get an enlarged copy, save it to a cd or disc and go to Staple's across from Home Depot in Springfield; they can laminate it as well. 19. Did not see any while on the water. There where some who took out after us. jim
  20. If you are looking for a great nymph and dry rod all rapped up in one it might be more trouble than one thinks. Some of the great nymph rods are 10-11 feet in length and some of the great dry fly rods are short as in the 8-8.5 feet in length. To answer your question no I have not ever fished one.(Dorber Fly rods) If I were going to find an all around rod I would take a look at the Winston BIIX in 5-6 wt, Or I would look at Sage SLT 5-6wt. Sage has just came out with there new rod the Z-AXIS I have had the chance to cast and fish with the 5wt and I liked it a lot it does carry a heavy new price $650.00. I hope that this might help you. One rod you might consider would be a Scott A2 10' 6 wt that would be great nymph rod I have one and love it. Then for the dry fly rod. You could go with the Winston Vapor in 3 or a 4 wt the total for the two rods would be less than one of the other rods as in the BIIx and the Z-AXIS. Just food for thought. Michael
  21. any where from a size 6 -10
  22. Thats great

  24. I will have to say that someone up in the dam must know when I'm going to be down because they ran the water untill 1am. Everynight that I have not been down there they have shut the water off at 11. I think I will change my scheldule for next week. The Fishing started out slow but picked up as the night went on we Started fishing between outlet 1 and 2 and picked a few fish up on blood red. My buddy that was down there had a real nice brown that would measure right at 19" then he would have one more brown latter that night that would be just a little shorter. We made our way up to the cable and fished untill 4am and It bacame the worst thing possible catch a fish change a fly catch a fish change a fly. I will have to say that we caught fish on every color of mohair leech that I sell here in my shop. This time of year I will have that happen more than I want it to. But I will have to say I caught fish on some wierd color combos that one would never think would work. I will say this, think about the traditional Salmon flies for Alsaka they worked last night on Taney. These are the flies that we used last night Bunny Leech, Mohair Leech, Muddler Minnow, and a Sculpin. And like I said the color did not matter except for the fact that you would catch a fish and you would have to change flies. We were fishing all flies down stream no swing and stripping them very slow. There were several times that the line would just seem a little tight on the retrive you better set the hook. Then there were a few few fish that would just grab the fly so hard that it would jerk the rod almost out of your hands. I hope that everyone that goes down tonight will have fun and catch a big fish. I will not be down at all this weekend, I must fullfill my wifes every dream by completing her honey do list this weekend. She will not belive it. Michael
  25. Fishing is really starting to turn on at night. We went down last night and from 2am untill 10am and the fishing was great. Since I was down latter than normal I started at the wire and worked down to the point. The Fishing was so good that it was 5:30 befor we made it down to the point. It was a pretty normal night with moon up and about 1/4 showing so it was not to bright, but just bright enough to make you want to still fish the shadows. I was using a floating line and my mohair leech in a new color that I have fished quite a bit on some moon lit nights. I have named the color crystal ice and it will work great. One thing that has been pretty common on those moon lit nights is that the fish want it slow and I mean slow. The two colors that I used were blood red and evil leperchon. I have noticed that the we have been picking quite a few 16-18 inch browns up and they are healthy. After the sun started to come up I put on a olive mohair and picked a few up then here came the hatch. Black and olive midges I had nothing that small, so I put on a crakle back and picked up 6-7 fish in about 1 hour then that was it. I then put a sculpin on and picked up few more sight fishing. I would say that from 2-10 I had 50-60 fish. I hope to see everyone at the seminar. Michael
