  1. that's cheating Daryk
  2. Hey Joe, you stand as good a chance as I do. you have the equipment and the knowledge
  3. anyone here that targets them. I know usmcgrunt does, met him last week on the point. my quest is for one that will top 30lbs on rod and reel
  4. speaking of rules, I am proposing a new one for Springfield lake. ONLY THE PEOPLE WHO POST ON THIS BOARD ARE ALLOWED TO FISH THE LAKE!
  5. that area is notorious for people keeping way over the limit of fish. the mdc could pay an agents salary there in citations. watched a couple of people one time fill a 5 gallon bucket with small channel cats. must have had at least 30 of them
  6. if you're after bigger size fish, you can't beat live bait. large minnows or 3" to 5" perch. personally I like the perch. easy to catch your own bait

    Smallmouths

yup, either a devil's horse or a crazy shad. in the spring when the fish are gorging on newly hatched fry throw it out let it sit for a few seconds and just barely twitch it. just enough to make small ripples. other times just thrash away
  8. usmcgrunt, you've convinced me. got to get to the point when the weather cools a bit. it is hard on this old fat man. got the equipment just got to get up and go.
  9. one thing I didn't see mentioned. MAGNIFIERS, for some of us older folks them teeny tiny hook eyes and small tippet is a major challenge. went once without them and after 30 minutes of trying to tie on a new fly gave up and went home
  10. AWESOME, trophy size fish deserve to swim free. CPR
  11. worked with a fellow that fished at stockton for crappie at night. in the summer he said he did his best on bare points 20' to 30' deep. he didn't want any brush or timber around at all. I would fish with minnows, might just catch a walleye or two also. I would think a big deep flat would be good also. try cruising some of these areas with the electronics and if you see schools of shad then that is where I would set up at night
  12. thanks fishslayer. have been to flat creek and bridgeport, haven't fished there for flatheads. walnut springs is new to me. looked it up on google earth. great links, thanks. waiting to see if wayne swmo chimes in HE KNOWS EVERYTHING! had to say that, I've fished with wayne a few times
  13. need some advice on some bank access that a fat old man can try to catch a big flathead. have the quality tackle to handle one just don't have a boat. thanks
  14. haven't posted in a long time, mostly just check in to see whats up. most of my fishing these days is from the bank. the more comfortable the better. I like to set out some poles and see if I can get a big cat fish to bite. any suggestions as to where a fat old man can find a good place on the bank that has some decent size fish. I live in Battlefield, Mo so any of our area lakes. just don't know of any good bank access. lots of boat ramps but few places that offer good bank access Jim Milam

    Cat Fish

I'm a fat old fart that likes to sit on the bank and put out a couple of poles for cat's. usualy bait one with shad sides and one with a big gold fish. don't have a boat anymore so am restricted to the bank. bank access on our lakes is not good. lots of boat ramps and few places for the bank fisherman. one of the best places I have found is in the camp ground area just east of the town of stockton. ANY SUGGESTIONS! anyone wanting to share a bank just give me a shout, I live in Battlefield and can go just about anytime during the week

  18. done some practicing today. it's amazing how much improvement there is when you relax and let the rod do the work. the line actualy laid out and went where it was supose to. also went back to back country today and it sure is amazing how a bunch of ity bity stuff sure turns into big dollars in a hurry
  19. focused hit the nail on the head, and remember. crank it slow, real slow and when the rod loads up holler get the net.
  20. am taking the plunge into fly fishing and went to back country outfiters today. purchased a new sage 5wt and a konic reel. now if I can just keep from hanging myself with the line.
  21. great story Stu. 8-14lb carp on a 12' float rod and 6lb line is a blast. it's been to cold to drag my old arthritic bones out but looking forward to warmer weather. but for now just a wishin instead of fishin
  22. haven't fished taney in years, so definately not up to date. are grass shrimp still present in any numbers thanks Jim
  23. any decent bank access spots ot the Rock. my arthuritis limits any real strenuous hikes so I need somethig you can park fairly close. there are tons of places to launch a boat, but very few places for the bank fisherman. thanks Jim
  24. glad your back safe and sound, and enjoyed the trip. refering to the ugly I know which one,and I don't mean your floating partner . when you get rested up give me a shout and we'll go fishing.
  25. well finaly got out after the break in the heat. caught several carp in the 5-10lb range. all in all a very pleasant evening. met a young couple from springfield that were also carp fishing and having a great time.they were using a dough bait with liver in it and were catching a lot of fish. was very refreshing to see a young couple like that enjoying their time together fishing.
