  1. I know where the farm is and I know by name only the people who are putting it in. It is my understanding that the thing that is causing the problem is that it required permission from neighbors living within a certain distance of the farm. Apparently all permissions were given then one of the neighbors changed their mind. Either second thoughts or presure from neighbors who were far enough away that they were not asked. As far as zoning goes, The farm is out on F hwy 10+ miles from the nearest town, zoning would have to come from the county level and that isn't going to happen. Truth of the matter is there are other chicken farms closer to the park than this one and it isn't like they are putting in a processing plant that uses huge amounts of water. They just have neighbors who know how to raise a stink.........
  2. A friend of mine and I went last night. We started just before dark and fished till about 11:30pm. approx 2 and a half hours. We had a pretty good night. I had 6 fish and missed several others. 2 keepers and 4 shorts and my buddy had about the same. You should all know that I am not a skilled bass fisherman like many on this site. A good fisherman would probably have caught several more fish. We were setting in about 30 to 40 foot of water casting to the banks on main lake points and in the mouths of creeks and rivers. It seemed like most of the fish were in the 20 to 25 foot range. We threw crank baits till dark and then went to Chompper jigs and salt craws. The best colors were Electric Blue and black with blue flick. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  3. here is a pic of the fish Jaybird caught..........
  4. A friend of mine and I fished the Eagle Rock area mainly in Roaring River arm last evening for a couple of hours before dark. The water was 63 degrees and fishing was pretty good. Using jigs and swimming minnows. ended up with 6 crappie 3 bass and 1 perch. the largest was a 15+" crappie. we were fishing stick ups and rocky banks. the fished seemed to be in about 10' of water. Good luck and good fishing RRV
  5. Jaybird and I went up kings Sunday afternoon. from viola to above the 86 bridge. water temp ranged from 55 to 58 degrees. We had half a dozen nice slabs, 1 keeper bass, a couple of shorts, and a couple small whites. we caught the whites trolling and everything else on stickups about 12 to 15 feet deep in 25 foot of water. good luck and good fishing RRV
  6. ducky, don't let anyone fool you. opening day is an experience that everyone should try at least once. I have been doing it for 20+ years now and love it. I have changed jobs recently and will only get to be there for the first few minutes this year but I will be there. I will also be around that weekend so let me know where you will be and I will try to stop in and say HI. The new job doesn't require me to work nights or weekends and it is a lot less hours so I hope to start fishing a lot more and getting a few more reports out here. Good luck and Good fishing RRV P.S. get there early campsites will go fast. If you need me to I can probably go down and put a lawn chair on a site for you to save a spot as long as no one moves the chair.
  7. Lilly, while I was down at your place for the white bass seminar last spring I handled a couple of the temple fork rods that were in the shop. They felt pretty good. Do they fish as well as they feel in the shop? and can a guy get just the blank if he wants to wrap his own? Thanks RRV
  8. Ducky, I'm the guy that you met in the parking lot. I want to thank you again for the conehead. It worked great. I caught several fish. We got there about 10pm and fished below 2 and then I moved down below rebar. I caught a few fish on purple bunny leaches and a few on black. I saw several fish in the current above rebar that would go 10lb + but couldn't get any to bite. I did catch 1 23" to 24" male brown that had great color and a big hook jaw. I would guess him in the 7 to 8 lb range. I forgot my camera so I don't have a picture but he fought hard and tore the heck out of my thumb with his teeth. when I was taking the hook out. We met ducky at midnight, during a break, as he was leaving. He gave me a cone head and I fished it the rest of the night. We left about 2:45am and the parking lot was still full. Good luck and good fishing RRV
  9. Made it down to RR on friday for just about an hour and a half. There is a Bunch-o-fish in the river. caught a couple on scuds and a couple on midges. but by far the best action was on a black and tan woolie with gray tail and grizzly hackle. Using 7x line and caught 20+ fish. The crowd size is down and a lot of fish. This last month should be good. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  10. Jaybird and I went down to beaver sunday morning to try to get into some topwater action. We saw what looked like a few stripers hitting top but nothing consistant. we did get into a few spots. just fished for a couple of hours and still made it back in time for church. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  11. Russ, I just checked the forcast on the national weather service web site and they are calling for sunny skies with highs in the mid 80's and lows in the mid 60's. Sounds like perfect weather. If you do need a place to stay you may try oak hill court or the motel in the park. there is also a super 8 but it is in cassville. Good luck and good fishing RRV
  12. I made it down to the river Saturday and got a little fishing time in. My wife's cousin was camping so while the women folk went to the sidewalk sales in town The men folk got to fish. Her cousin had never used a fly rod so I set him up with a 8' 4wt and a #16 burlap. We all used 7x line. He caught 6 or 7. while he was fishing the burlap I threw some woollies and griffis gnats. I caught a bunch-o-fish on black and black and tan woollies. I also found a couple of large fish. I found one that was probably 8lbs but I couldn't get him to hit, but I did break off a 5 or so lb'r. There were a lot of fish in the water this weekend. especially in the narrow area above the last hole of the fly area. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  13. I didn't make it down to the river for Kids fishing day but everyone that I spoke to said that it was a great success. I also heard that there were close to a 1000 kids down there. I don't know that for sure It may have been an exageration around the cleaning station, but if it is true, I'm glad I had to work. I did make it down to fish yesterday evening. I fished from about 6:30pm to 8pm. I ended up with a bakers dozen. I also broke off a nice brown about 6lbs the hole below the twin falls hole. I fished #16 black ants, #18 and #20 griffis gnats, and #16 burlaps. The fishing was good and there were a lot of nice fish left from the weekend. I caught several in the 2lb range. should make for a nice night around the grill. I am still fishing 8x tippet. the water is getting lower and clearer by the day. I also saw a guy and a little girl catch a couple of limits on light green lucky strike worms. Good luck and good fishing RRV
  14. You don't look to worse for wear. I haven't seen your girls in a while. They sure grow up fast. It is a good thing they look like their mother. Good luck and Good Fishing RRV
  15. While eating dinner tonight my wife made the comment that the next time I went fishing she would like me to keep a few for dinner. I immedately translated this statement to, "Why don't you go to RR after dinner and see if you can catch some fish." Wanting her to believe that her wish was my command I quickly finished dinner and loaded up and headed to the River. I started fishing at 10 minutes til 7pm I started with a #20 griffis gnat. In fact that is all I fished with. By 7:30pm I had caught 10 fish and kept 4 nice fish. I also missed or had on for just a second probably another 10 or 12 fish. I fished the hole in front of the old lodge right below the low water bridge. I also spoke to a gentleman at the cleaning station. He and his wife had limited out on chartruse salmon eggs with a small weight about 12 to 18 inches above the hook. using a slow retrieve technique. The water is low but probably the best fishing I have seen all summer. Small line is still a must. They are also cleaning moss out of the river with a track hoe. They do this most years. It always seems to make the fishing better. I'm sure it dislodges a lot of scuds and murkys up the water. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  16. Congrats on the new arrival. I hope all goes well. Tell your wife to hold off until sept 5th. That is a really good day to have as a birthday. Good luck and Good Delivery RRV
  17. Hello all, First off I want to give you a history of these dogs. I would also would like to educate a few people about labs, and tell some of the things I have learned. These puppies are not from a puppy mill. In fact The guy that ownes them has a single mommy dog whose last litter was over a year ago. She is 4 years old and this is her second litter. Make no mistake, these are not the run of the mill back yard labs. In fact and many don't know this but there are 3 different types of labs. There are americian labs, americian bench labs and english labs. In fact it has been considered in recent years by the AKC to split the Lab breed. The americian lab and american bench labs are taller lanky with narrower heads and long noses and usually high energy. The english (show) lab is a short, square, short tail stocky lab. They are calmer and typically easier to train because than the americian and american bench labs have a tendency to be hard headed. A few years ago I was in the market for a dog and I ended up with a Show quality Chocolate Male. He is out of great bloodlines. He is also incredibly smart and a great hunter. Here is his web site. tugboat I bread him to an equally nice female. As a fee I kept a Show Quality female. I put a friend on the papers as a co-owner and she stays at his house. She is a very nice dog and is also very smart and a good hunter. He bread her to a very nice male out of Massachuttes with lots of titles. here is a link to his website. topper He has 7 puppies. 3 males and 4 females. 2 of the males are chocolate and all other puppies are black. He is asking $500 dollars a piece. If he were a better known kennel or in a big city these dogs would bring a $1000 a piece easy. I do have some picture but I haven't got them off the camera yet. If you are interested let me know and I can send the pictures. puppies are like fishing equipment, you get what you pay for. Good Luck and Good shopping RRV
  18. 10pointer, They do not stock brood stock on a regular basis, but they do turn loose a few on occasion. They are usually in the 3 to 5 lb range and usually released at the end of a week going into a weekend. There are always a few big fish around but finding them can be difficult and catching them even harder yet. Look in deep water with good current with heavy nymphs. a lot of times people won't see them until they set the hook and a monster comes out of the current. Then they loose their cool and break off. Don't let the clear water fool you. A big fish will hide very easily. The big fish will stay deep and close to rocks waiting for the easy meal. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  19. If my memory serves me correctly. They changed the # of fish they stock per fisherman when they changed the limit to 4. I believe that they use to stock 2.5 fish for every fisherman but now I belive it is 2 fish for every fisherman. If I remember correctly, They calculate the # of fishermen by using the number of tags sold the day before the day of the week and the # of tags sold on the the same day the year before. Very seldom do they actually raise enough fish to stock all year and usually the fish don't grow fast enough to be stockable by the time they are needed. The hatchery actually trades fish with other hatcheries so they can get enough fish to stock. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  20. Bill Tell your daughter not to fret. I was speaking to a local agent a few days ago and he was telling me that he had ticketed a hispanic group for over limit, fishing illegal bait and keeping fish in the C&R area. I doubt that it was the same group but you can tell her that she may not always see the agent but there is a good chance they are there in plain clothes just waiting for the right moment. Good Luck and Good Fishing RRV
  21. Hi all, I got home from work and found the paper, and re-read the article and the hatchery manager stated that the spring is currently at 8 million gallons a day. It does normally average 20 million gallons a day but in all of my years I have never seen it at 20 million in July. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  22. Hi all, The rumors that you have heard about RR have been going around for a while now and there was acutally an article in the local cassville paper last week addressing the rumors. The article said that they were just that, 'rumors' That they do trade fish with other hatcheries on a regular basis and that they would continue to keep trout at the RR hatchery. As far as water levels go. The river is low but not any lower than usual for this time of year. In fact I think that it is in pretty good shape for July. I fished it last week and it is clear but there is still a decent amount of water. I believe that it is still higher than it was two months ago when it was down to about 4 million gallons a day. I know that since then we received a large amount of rain and the spring output actually jumped up to between 80 and 100 million gallons a day. They have a pump in the river that will pump water back into the spring pool if needed to keep enough water to support the fish in the hatchery. They also changed the water feed to the hatchery this past winter so that the hatchery wouldn't be affected by spring output as much. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  23. Well I finally got away from work for a little while and made it down to the river today to fish. I fished from 3pm to 6pm. The weather was great. It was a little warm but nothing like it has been.In the three hours that I fished I caught probably 25 to 30 fish, and broke off probably another dozen. I know, I know, that is a lot of break offs. I will tell you why the break offs were so plentiful and I only have one thing to say. 8x I fished with 7x for the first 20 to 30 minutes with lots of lookers but no takers. I switched to 8x and the game was on. The best rule, which I failed to follow today is re-tie after every fish with 8x. I fished mainly black ants with both grizzly hackle and black hackle. I had taken a friend with me and he used some other stuff but the ants were by far the best producers. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  24. I made it down to the river for a couple of hours yesterday. I got there about 4pm. I spent the entire time in the fly area. According to the Thermometer in the truck it was 86 degrees. there was a slight breeze and it was really an enjoyable day. I was fishing a 7'3# with 7x for the most part but I did go to a 6x with the scuds. It was amazing how much the water has cleared up in a week. it was very clear with good current. I mainly fished black ants and beetles under overhanging trees and did very well. The last thirty minutes or so I fished big heavy scuds ( size 14 with lots of lead ) in the current and caught several fish. I had a nice one on but just for a few seconds. It was probably in the 7 to 8 lb range. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
  25. Forsythian, I drove down to the river a couple of days ago and the water looks really good. it is up a little, but I like to fish it when it has good current. The water is a little murky but not from the construction, It is that deep bluish/gray when the water is up. I haven't been fishing RR in a couple of months so I can't give a report but it should be really good. Good luck and Good fishing RRV
