  1. foam poppers, #10 rubber legged red squirrel nymphs. biggest bass for me on a fly rod came on a #8 black mohair leech. i have caught bass on #16 zebra midges that were trailed behind a popper. in my opinion, there are better spots for bass on the fly then j.a.r. need to get out to lone jack lake or either of the two tarsney "lakes". will require some sort of watercraft to get to the better spots.
  2. looks like an exploratory trip could be in your future. sometimes that's half the fun. don't know how comfortable i'd feel fishing any of the creeks or rivers within the city limits. just too darn dirty for me. there are some stretches of the little blue right off 40 highway that look promising, but would be afraid the coating on my line would come off. lack of CLEAR, moving water is one thing that frustrates me about this area. there are several outstanding stillwater options though, especially if you have a float tube or other portable watercraft. some of the best bluegill and redear fishing i've ever had was at lone jack lake. i like the reed area, but they need to start allowing the use of float tubes. you can p.m. me here for some other stillwater options if you'd like, but i don't really have anything top secret. mostly fish the MDC managed water in the area and do quite well on most of them.
  3. Orvis Streamer Stripper 4wt. mini sink tip line. Has been fished just a handful of times. In great shape. Have the original spool, no box. Retails for $69, get this for $30 shipped to the lower 48. Paypal only. Here's what orvis has to say about the line: A must-have sink-tip fly line for fast water, pond fishing with nymphs and streamers, and saltwater flats and shallows. The best-casting sink tip you'll ever use. Short, very heavy Class V sink tip gets your fly down immediately with a high-floating body. Yellow line with gray tip. With 4-foot mini sink tip - sink rate range 5½" to 6½"/sec.
  4. sold. please delete
  5. can't vouch for the seller, but this has been posted for a while and you might be able to get it for even less than what he is asking now: http://ultralightflyfishing.yuku.com/topic/3647
  6. you can get a redington CT 7'6" 4 piece 2wt. for about $120-$130 full retail, less if you buy used. i have the 8'6" 3wt. and it is a buttery smooth rod. if you really want to rock the boat, you should look into the tenkara line of rods. japanese fly rods specifically designed to fish small streams. check out tenkarausa.com and tenkarabum.com
  7. i floated a couple of weeks ago and put in right where you are going to. caught fish all the way down the river, but the canoe/raft traffic was pretty bad. once i hit the NRO access, fishing became really difficult due to the large numbers of canoes on the river. actually had a canoe almost hit me. had to give it a kick to push it away from me. no one was rude. in fact, most folks were pretty nice and interested in what i was doing, but when i float again, it will be before and after the aluminum hatch season is over.
  8. can anyone recommend an outfitter close to bennett. know there are a ton of them, just have never used any. want to do a float from the first public access there right outside the park to somewhere. want to do a good one day float that i can fish leisurely and thoroughly and not be worried about rushing at the end to get back to the barn. any advice would be appreciated.
  9. these two sites usually have discounted waders. check the clearance pages on each one and see what they have. www.mrfc.com and redtruckflyfishing.com. also, you can still find the freestones for around $200 at several online shops and most will ship for free. just got a pair myself and have been very pleased so far.
  10. no one had what i was looking for in trade, so posting a screamin' deal on this unfished 2wt. package. the rod is an 8' 3 piece tfo pro series 2wt. have the original sock, but no tube. the reel is an orvis battenkill 3/4 spooled with s.a. mastery gpx 2wf line. all items have been lawn cast, but never fished. the rod is pristine. there is a very small area of paint loss on the rim of the reel directly across from the + sign (this will make sense when you see the pictures). retail was right at $300 plus tax. will ship this to the lower 48 for $165. prefer a money order or cashiers check on this one. here's a link to my photobucket account with pics: http://s517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/dpenrod/tfo1/ SOLD SOLD

  19. i fished monday and tuesday before all the rains hit and didn't see many people catching. i didn't catch any in the park, and just three in the bennett public access area. fella in the park shop said he hadn't been seeing or hearing of too many people doing well. i have always done better at bennett on high water. fish a sinking line and strip a streamer.
  20. showed me to be a trout bum too. though definitely not a weed smoker. didn't realize that was a prerequisite for being a trout bum as several of the questions seemed to have some reference to pot in them
  21. a buddy and i are going down next week to fish the park, but we are going to stay an extra day to float the niangua. neither of us have targeted smallmouth before. was looking for some help on what stretch would be a good day float and some tactics to use. was thinking of streamers and a sink tip line. didn't know if they'd hit hoppers on top. anyway, some direction would be appreciated. also need a shuttle service. we have our own floatables, but need a ride.
  22. ditto on the marabou midge. anybody have a recipe and/or pic they can post?
  23. for sale a used, but good condition outcast oncilla pontoon boat. 7' pontoons, nice padded seat. has a cross bar to rest your feet on as you row. great stillwater craft and has also floated the white river 3 times with no concerns whatsover. sets up and breaks down easily. comes with two oars. pontoons are solid, never been punctured and no leaks. $160 firm. if interested, p.m. and we can talk. face to face only, will not ship this.
  24. i have monday the 26th off and was thinking of heading down to bennett to do a little fishing, but the forecast is calling for rain. anybody fish bennett in the rain? how'd you do? is the drive from kansas city worth it or should i wait for better weather?
  25. damselfly, i don't know if lem was on orvis rep, but he was an orvis certified casting instructor. i would be willing to bet it was he you ran into. had the pleasure of taking a casting class from him shortly before he passed away. the #8 renegade was his go to fly. i have used it myself at bennett with great success.
