  1. Four of us spent Sat and Sun fishing and camping b/w Cane Bluff and Greer. The weather was great and the fishing was fair. There was no portages but we dragged in a lot of spots. I think the river could use a little water. No great numbers fishing but I did catch a couple of smallies over 16 inches. A couple of the other guys caught 2 rainbows over 16 inches. The average smallie was about 11 inches. A 3" grub was the ticket. Sorry no pics. Good time had by all. Superfly
  2. Thanks guys for all the great destinations. I am thinking about a future trip. So many great pieces water to pick from. Fish On!
  3. What are the top three trout fly fishing destinations in the lower 48?
  4. Above Greer fishing for smallie, I have had the best luck fishing the end of the long deep pools during this time of year. Try a 1/8 oz jig head (black) with a 3" kalin grub (dark color). Good Luck. Practice catch and release. MR
  5. Cherry Bombs!!!!
  6. Nice pink strike indicators. Fitting for a cold day to keep your mental focus. Are u using yarn? balloon?
  7. A big tree was across that road last August. Has it been cut out?
  8. Bigger fish will bring more $$ into the area. Missouri has the trout parks for the bait and keep guys. The Eleven Point River is only one of the few wild and scenic rivers that you can use a motor boat on I think. I wish the Feds would ban the motors and keep the river wild and scenic. It will be very hard to grow a lot of big fish as long as the Feds and the MDC allows motors and bait in their management plan. Catch and Release both smallmouth and trout... Maybe the Feds and MDC should look at the regulations that Montana puts on their rivers for instance the Smith River. The Smith River is managed by Montana Fish, Wildfife & Parks. The Smith River probably should be a Wild and Scenic River. No motors and bait is for kids. The Eleven Point needs a better plan!
  9. I wish the Forest Service would mark Denny Hollow Float Camp in the upper river. Superfly
  10. Check Out Nucanoe.com or stop by the marine repair center in springfield they are a dealer. Great fishing boat!
  11. I would like to see the forest service hold a lottery for a one day fishing permit to fish the spring branch. Maybe something like a 100 permits a year. One permit would entile you to one guest or a guide. Close the branch in the spawning season. No boats in the branch. Just some of my thought on the subject. Superfly
  12. Willie, Check out Long Hollow on a map. There are a lot of good sand bar through that strech to. Hope this helps! Superfly
  13. It is out A or AA about 6 miles on the left. She has a sign. It is about 1 mile before the turn to Whitten. Nice place!
  14. Cricket, Go to Brians web site 11pointcanoe.com. He has logding listed on his site. I have stayed in most of them and recommend the overnight cottages. You are going to Gods country I don't think any of them have wifi. Hope this helps. Superfly
  15. Lizard, I like to us a poly yarn indicator soaked in floatant it rides high in the current. Yarn is lite and helps offset the heavy flies. Get the flies on the bottom. I like to cast up stream and dead drifted into a swing with two short stripes at the of the drift. I recommend stopping by the eleven point canoe rental for flies. Their flies are weighted and I know that they can hook you up with the right ones. Don't go on the river without a handful on Don's Crawdads. Hope this helps. Superfly
  16. Brain and 2sheds are on the money. But i like to cut 15 inches of line off and tie it back with a double surgons knot. Put a split shot above the knot. The knot will keep the shot from slipping down on the spinner. This will help get the spinner deeper. Good luck Boy Scouts. Teach them Catch and Release. Try barbless hooks. The fish will thank you. Life Scout, Superfly
  17. The US forest service should ban motorized boats in the blue ribbon section. Motorized boats sure are not Wild and Scenic.
  18. WOW! That is exciting first trout on a fly rod. Congrats Brenda!
  19. I did not ask how much ticket was. The guy was for sure bummed out! I saw the sherrifs dept out on that part of the river that day. I wonder if they gave the ticket.
  20. I took my wife floating a few weeks ago from Greer to Whitten. It was a Saturday and a lot of canoes on the river. When I saw a fishermen I asked them how the fishing was. They all said good but one guy said he got a ticket. He was in the blue ribbon section using soft plastics with his wife. That is a No No! Hats off to the law enforcement on the river. It pays to know the rules! Superfly
  21. JIM! Thanks for the tips and Google Earth idea. I will give a report if I fish it this weekend!
  22. Does anyone know how far it is from the 134 bridge to the 125 bridge on the James? Is it floatable? How is the fishing in that section? Thanks for any helpful tips. Superfly
  23. Thanks for a great report! Sounds like you guys had a great time.
  24. Brian Have you heard if the forest service guys have started to clean up the upper river or when? Has anyone been down it with a report on its condition since your past post on it? The smallmouth should be liking the warm temps and spawning. My main question is it possible to get a canoe loaded down with gear though that upper river. Thanks for any info. Superfly
  25. Thanks for the update. Keep us posted on the forest services plans to clean up the upper river. We hope to fish in May. NO RAIN!
