Forsythian That explains alot. Haha

Appreciate your candor and your points make a solid supply-vs-demand rational. Let me add that there are several forums already in existance that dont get the numbers that a Lower Taney forum has the potential of getting. I am speaking for the silent masses that have yet to cry out. As some cornfield in Iowa used to say, "build it, and they will come" Haha

I dont know. I spose if you can keep them alive you might catch something. Keeping them alive would be the hard part. It has been quite a number of years, but I used to catch shad and chubs up in bull for night fishing off my dock. But I never kept them alive, they were put on ice after I caught them. I spose a good rig/tactic for live shad might be your basic lindy rig and then drift right above the bottom. Just be aware where bottom is. That rig could snag up very easily. I would take a couple dozen rainbow fingerlings over shad. Wink. You find someplace to buy them let me know. Haha

Why isnt there a Table Rock Tailwaters Forum? I understand it's topic is lumped in with Lake Taneycomo but if your seperating Powersite Dam from Bullshoals, as well as others in the "Tailwater Forum" catagory, it would make sense to seperate the upper area(tailrace) from the rest of this lake as well. They provide two totally seperate fishing experiances, considering that little flyfishing happens below Roark Creek, and most of the PMs I get are from people who are seeking advice on how to catch fish(not just trout) without using a fly. I really dont have to emphisize how different the two areas fish. Only seems to validate the need to have a better catagoric Forum choice. Now, those of you that are familiar with me may be thinking that I am just trying to conjur up my own little Forum considering that the majority of the posts from the lower lake tend to be from yours truly, but that isnt the case. I, for one, have been reading OA for a couple of years before I even signed up as a member. The main reason I was hesitant for so long is because of all the fly fishing commentary and never ending descriptions of an area of the lake that I really had no interest in. And my hesitation was justified when I saw how clichish all the "chest waders" are. Lets not forget, the majority of those guys would love to have thier own designated forum just to be rid of my opinions of the upper lake. Haha. If you dont believe me, just ask. Do a Poll. wink. I can almost guarantee you that there are alot of members like me, and even more readers that just dont see the need to join, because the bulk of the conversation of this Lakes forum is focused on the upper lake and its flyfishing. Phil commented to me once that he was glad to see more info being expressed on the lower lake. This is the way to get it. Give the guys who do fish it, thier own forum. Just a suggestion. I believe you will be surprised at how much more info will be exchanged on the lower lake if it had a forum where it can be focused without the conversations of flys, shufflers, and water generation charts. Most the really good fishermen I know on Taneycomo have no desire to fish elbow to elbow or stacked next to tourists. Of course, birds of a feather flock together, but Bass fisherman want thier own shoreline....Haha Anyway, I do believe that I make a legitimate case, qualifying for an appropriate consideration. I intentionally posted this opinion outside of the Taneycomo Forum as to create attention to what I wanted to convey without drawing in too much negitivity from those who might object. Although I still wanted it public as to have my voice heard as well. It is solely an expressed opinion of fact and at no time is there any malice to slander, assume or disrespect. Thought I better throw in a disclamer.....Haha

Come down between mile 8 and mile 10. You can have all the Varmits you want..... Haha

Phil, Since the acceleration of the Brown introduction the shad population has decreased dramatically, Might not all be GWarming....wink I used to catch them with a throw net as a teenager, not ever gonna happen now.

I have lived on Taney for 3 decades and have never scene anything that resembled a shad kill. So I am clueless to a ten year cycle. On the lower lake anyway. As much as I fish, I think I would have noticed. But the shad population is so tiny that maybe I never thought twice of a few dead ones. You can bet I start looking a little closer now that you mentioned it. I dont think shad like Taney too much. If any get in they usually run like bandits and jump Powersite within days. If you ever fish below Powersite you can see them. Some of them can be found dead there sometimes. I see them up in bull and other larger inlets, very much alive, but I think those are some that got turned around on thier way downstream. I rarely see them surfacing in the main lake. Is it possible those small populations are running upstream in some ill attempt to spawn only to die? Maybe, I dont know. That still wouldnt explain the 10 year cycle you mention. I am not a shad expert though. Just years of observation and educated guessing. Let me know if you find any answers, I would be interested in knowing. On another note.......... Back in '05 I went down to Norfolk and saw some serious kill off there. Not just shad but dozens of 10 to 20 pound Stripers. Those were a little hard not to see. Still to this day I havnt gotten a straight answer of the reason why. Heard rumor it was due to o2 levels but never had it confirmed.

Fished the shallows just NE of rockaway. Was looking for staging Bass confused by the weather. Didnt see many cruisers but did pick up 6 sport bass positioned near pontoons. Only fished a couple hours. Was surprised to see so many boats on the water. It is still a Monday in January right? Haha

Thanks for the info. While your at it, Add on some scratch and sniff for the recipe forum....wink.

Haha..nice, I chase whites all over the lower lake. In the spring those puppys will school up and you can catch hundreds of them down here in my neck of the holler. Sometimes it seems with nothing but shiny hooks. They are very aggressive. Not surprising to catch two at a time off of one crank. I often wondered how far upstream they ran, looks to me they run the whole distance of the lake now. Good thing the trout are stocked. With those guys building populations, if the trout had to spawn in the lake, they wouldnt stand a snowballs chance on the sun of coexisting past thier intial fry stage. Taneycomo is too small for thier to be to many top predators. Not to mention that the only true forage for the current competitors are rainbows, panfish, or each other.

Its ok Don, Sometimes I can go 10 hours and catch only 4 fish. Alot of times I will fish 3 species before I can find some to bite at all. Wink

Welcome Back Phil! Is that a spray on tan you have?....wink wink Haha, I dont mind the "dog-pack". Truth be told, Im wearing pork chop ear-rings. As far as the list, I was just trying to "quote" myself. Something most people know I do well anyway. Leanord....I have never disrespected you or anyone else. I made light of an average-sized fish and somehow it got turned into the equivalent of some kind of blasphemy. As opinionated as I can get, I am always posting with a smile. Is it really my fault that some people carry thier emotions on a string? If anyone is really considering the notion that I take this "rap" serious, only proves that I am not the only one struggling with ego issues. Wink Haha, Did I mention, I encourage the worst out of people? Hey Phil, Should I start a new list and put Manipulative on top? Maybe Narcissistic would be better. wink

I will say it again.....Someone should just kill all those humans. wink

Steers and What? Haha,

Taking your time has its benefits. Thats for sure. Me?President? Dont put those evil seeds in my head!! Haha Not only would I get Osama, but I would put his head on a stick in the White House lawn. Let the flies eat his eyeballs like a Texas Flathead on a fence post. Haha But in the end, I would just get assassinated by a fly fisherman who thought I had a big ego. Haha

10 pound test on spinning tackle, and yes, I occassionally use a net. No thanks on the use of the dental floss, I keep that in my bathroom. Haha. and flies dont do to well in 25 feet of water. But I get "it", I have never knocked flyfishing. Your talking apples and oranges. I just know that most the big brownies in Taneycomo will be found lurking the depths. After all, Taneycomo is 22 miles long and 20 miles of it is deeper than 15 feet. Your right Crappie, Im not exactly fishing in the fast lane. Also, I am not running for any public office. Haha. I might have more tact and be more diplomatic if I were. Maybe...wink

Tisk tisk tisk All I hear is a bunch of dogging from a lot of fishermen who never fish any deeper than half the length of thier rods. I for one agree with Dano. All this thread has produced is tenderized horse meat.

Let's Build Our Own 8' Hydros
Trav replied to woodman's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
They race them in front of my dock every year. Nothing but noise pollution. And if you get your jollys off swamping other recreational boaters, that is nothing but rude. -
Thanx Dano I paid 50 cents for it....5 bucks is a great turnover. I think I will hang on to it though.

For the record, I wasnt disrespecting anyone. All I did is make a suggestion. I even confirmed what Leonard stated by saying there is big fish everywhere. I stand on my opinion that the fish he posted was less than 6 pounds. The idea of a 17 pound fish at 28" is comical. Plus I catch fish that size all the time. Just read my reports. I may be a bit on the deign side but I curb my language and discontent as to not come across as so ascertain. After all we are talking about fishing wich is a sport subject to credibility. But like politics, you cant please everyone. All I can say is that I carry a high level of integrity and can see through the fog of delusion. Call it a big ego, I dont deny it. I also know that I am good at what I do. I am the best on lower Taney. No bones about it. If my confidence seems to much like belligerence you can add my name to the list of the following who tend to be the subject of similar controversy. Sean Penn, Charles Barkley, Terrell Owens, Mike Iaconelli, Muhammad Ali, Dennis Leary, Dennis Miller, Chad Johnson, Michael Strahan, Rush Limbaugh, Stephen Colbert, Tom Cruise, Howard Cosell, Bono, Alfred Hitchcock, Orsen Welles, Salvador Dali, Madonna, Jon Rocker, Allen Iverson, Adolph Hitler, David Duke, Goerge Steinbrenner, Donald Trump, Phil Mickelson, Bonzi Wells, Kobe Bryant, Curt Schilling, Kurt Busch, Barry Bonds, Saddam Hussein, Jerry Jones, John Madden, Bobby Knight, Jim Rome, Don King, OJ Simpson, Bill Clinton, and his wife Fidel Castro, All the Kennedys, Burt Reynolds Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, Charles Manson, Paris Hilton, George Bush, Dick Cheney, Joe Namath, Deoin Sanders, Joe Frazier, Timothy Leary, John Lennon, Spike Lee, The good the bad and the ugly. If I missed someone let me know. But I am not alone with my indoctrine that I am the best at what I do and wont concede to a bunch of guys who cant read a sonar graph and tell me the difference between a rock and a log. Thirty years of forthright knowledge is what I have. If you dont appreciate it....it is your loss. With that said, Take you periodical hobby, knowing that it is my daily habit, and live with your misjudgments.

Well, it helps to own property where you can keep your boat in the water....wink
