  1. Actually, that was a stringer but it is tied to our basket that we use for the fish. LOLOL I fished from a dock they have at Pin Oak Lake, which is great for old people like me. LOL The catfish was almost 2 lbs.
  2. I went to Shawnee trails Conservation Area and fished the in the Pin Oaks Lake and this was my first fish I caught. I was amazed. I caught him on a small Bluegill, quite by accident. This one was almost 3 lbs and then I caught another Bass that was almost 1 1;2 lbs. My last fish of the day was a catfish, also caught with a small Bluegill and he was about 2 lbs. All in all, it was a very good day of fishing out there. I am not the best at fishing but I do so love to be out doing it and the nice quiet and all.
  3. OK, I saw an access point down off of Hwy M and was wondering if anyone here had ever fished from the banks around that area? If you did, how was the fishing?
  4. Thank you all for your help. I shall try them and see how it goes when I get a chance to catch a few.
  5. OK, a couple of the places I have fished I have seen and would have been able to catch a few crawdads. What I want to know is how to properly put them on a hook to use as bait. Can anyone help me out hre?
  6. Please, where is the Hwy 13 that you speak about?
  7. I loved that. Thanks so much for the laugh.
  8. OK, I went fishing the other day at Fellows Lake and didn't catch a fish, all darn day. But, I did catch a rod 'n' reel. The reel is a Shimano 2000. At first I was not able to turn the reel at all. Today I finally around to looking at it and I took it apart and cleaned out the dried mud and such. I put some reel oil I had on the gears and it does turn now. It doesn't turn that smoothly though, in my opinion. What I would like to know is if there is anything that any of you would suggest that I do to make it more smooth in its action and to be sure that it is ready to use for the future?
  9. Thanks for the link to the map. I now know where to go. How is the fishing off to the right of that bridge, as opposed to the left where the wheelchair access place is with the bathrooms?
  10. You guys are great but way too technical for me. I just like to fish. I do not put my own line on and would be afraid to even try doing it. I just an old fart who loves the thrill of actually catching something and we do eat much of what I catch, but when we lived up near St. Louis, I used to love just catching and releasing the gar that was found in the Meremac. Thanks for all of your help though.
  11. Would someone be kind enough to tell me how to get to the bridge at Fellows Lake? I understand that fishing under the bridge is pretty good for catfish and I would like to try it. Thanks for any info. Please understand that I know absolutely nothing about the area so please give me step by step directions on how to get to the bridge. Thanks again.
  12. I would be happy as hell to catch an eight pounder. LOL
  13. I was thinking that also. Thanks for your's and everyone else's replies. Really appreciate it.
  14. I will check out the reel as you suggested but I don't put the line on myself. I have it put on at the locval Bass Pro Shop here in Springfield. No, I am talking about a baitcaster. I am speaking about a spinning reel. Thank you all for your help and I will let you know how it goes because I plan on getting some new line and again, letting Bass Pro Shops put it on my reels for me.
  15. Thanks so much for your replies.
