  1. I do not know what is being done to stop any efforts to dam any of the local streams, but I will surely join any effort against this being done. Last year, I fished Crane for the first time, and fell in love with it. I had my accident in November, and am unable to fish it for now. When the time comes that I can get back there and fish it like I used to, I want to have something to come back to. I've never been to shoal creek but I think I'd want to go there someday as well. I will do anything to stop any kind of action to dam these streams.
  2. I'll never forget the time down at Taney when I had just finished putting on my waders in the parking lot and a guy approached me asking for help with the hook he had buried in his hand. His only fishing partner that day was just a kid, so he wanted to have someone else help him. Anyways, he wanted me to pull this treble out of his hand with a pair of pliers. I couldn't see why he couldn't do it himself, but I knew there was a better way to pull it out than just ripping it out. Unfortunately, for him I didn't know a better way. I tried giving him a few tugs, but that wasn't getting him anywhere. So, I told him just to go to the hospital or something, because for one, I didn't want his blood getting on me, and two, I don't think I would've been able to stop laughing at him when I ripped it out.
  3. I think the place your talking about is officially called the Southwood Access. I went on the MDC site and it said there is a fishing dock and bathrooms as well as a place to launch a boat. I know there are a few clearings just up the road to the east that you can fish from, but as far as launching a boat, the ramp at the access should work great. Heres the directions from the MDC site: "To reach Southwood Access (on the east side of Lake Springfield just west of the Highway 65 Bridge), take the Evans Road exit off Highway 65; go west on Evans, then north on Southwood."
  4. Last time this happened to me, I think it was only like two bucks... don't quote me, but something like that.
  5. Whenever I used to fish crane, I'd always gas up there and get a drink or something to eat. Never really thought about what I was doing at the time, it just kinda worked out that way. Someday, when I get back to fish there, I'll be sure to keep spending my dollars in Crane. Good point parachite...
  6. Brian- Just watched the show, pretty cool. One question though, when you were tying the rubber legs, I couldn't help but notice that pedestal for your tying vise... That thing was pretty cool, did it come with the vise or did you buy it separate? Where'd you get it? Let me know, I may just have to make an investment....
  7. I bought a 3 wt. back in October and love it... I originally bought it to use on Crane creek, but have only used it at the trout parks... still, it's a lot of fun. As much as I LOVE trout, I would almost have to say bluegills are a close second on the flyrod... they just put up a lot of fight for thier size and once you start catching them, it usually doesn't stop.
  8. This isn't the first time I've seen such a debate about this topic on this forum. I would like to see more clear cut regulations. The regulations have so many holes in them it's not even funny, it is almost like they're setting people up for tickets...this is the LAW we're talking about here, it should NOT be up for individual interpretation.
  9. Yeah it worked, Thanks.
  10. I'm working on a little side project and am looking for a specific font that I don't have. However, I found it on one of those "free font" websites. Now, how do I get it to download to where it can be used? I've tried a couple different ways but it never ends up going to where I can use it... Make any sense? HELP PLEASE!!! Thanks...
  11. My theory is that you guys saw the space shuttle/space station do a flyover, because I want to say that I heard about that happening soon. However, I couldn't find any kind of schedule for when that might happen...
  12. Great job on getting them interested... I've actually meant to look into joining TU, but now I'm starting to see why joining is important and helpful.
  13. Thanks for the replies guys, Laker- I was really hoping for some terrestrial action, I just "mastered" tying a new hopper pattern... Oh well, I guess I'm just gonna have to test the new scud pattern I came up with. You see, before I got back to working again, I had all kinds of time to come up with some new patterns. We'll see how it does, and I may just have to post a recipe...
  14. Kind of a last minute deal here but I'll ask anyways... Me and a buddy are headed up there tommorow (thursday), we were gonna try for tuesday but ended up settling on thursday. Anyways, How is the water looking? I don't know if the rain we got down in Springfield effected things up there or not... Also, what has been workin' as far as flies go? Thanks.
  15. Hey Troutman- Check this site out, they have all kinds of flies for carp, ranging from nymphs, streamers, corn and breadcrumb imitations, and mulberry flies. Here it is: http://www.rainysflies.com/carp.php They have several pages of carp flies, so be sure to look through them all...
  16. They had a story in the Springfield paper about that a few weeks ago...We were talking about it on the Conservation Issues forum section, under the title "New Report On Reservoir Locations". Anyways, if this ever goes far enough to near fruition, you can be darn sure I will be ready to fight... I don't really think a darn on any of the streams mentioned in the stories is a good idea. I DO NOT support a new dam on any of the area waters.
  17. Don't take what I posted as me being offended or anything like that... I was just kinda being sarcastic. Sorry guys, I guess I shoulda made that more clear. Forsythian- I know the fish I posted wasn't technically a sunfish, but like I said I was just out having some fun, kinda the same way the same fish is also called a perch...hmmm
  18. I'm up for a fight... Seriously though, I'm with Ozark Trout Fisher on this one, we've got enough lakes already, I don't care what stream we destroy to make another, I DO NOT want anymore in this area. I'm no expert on the matter, but whats wrong with trying to use Table Rock, Bull Shoals or any of our other lakes for water?
  19. Larger Smallies... you mean mediummouth bass? Sorry I couldn't resist, kinda felt like being a smarta**... Anyways, look under any of the other post for the streams your fishing or even the "Did you know" topic (should be near this one). I just found out about it, but there is a forum just for smallie fishing, riversmallies.com. There are a lot of people on this forum who know a lot more about smallie fishing than I do, just look for thier reports and posts... By the way, I don't know what size grubs you're using, but when I'm spinfishing for smallies that is one of my go-to lures....
  20. One of my biggest fishing related pet peeves is when someone calls a bluegill or sunfish a "perch"... Growing up in Michigan, I caught my fair share of bluegills and perch. When we moved down here, everyone was calling the gills perch, it was confusing at first then it just got mildly annoying...not a big deal, but I'm just kinda particular about that sort of thing sometimes. Heres a perch: Heres a bluegill, gill, sunfish, bream, brim, whatever you wanna call it, NOT A PERCH!!!
  21. What kind of rod? A lot of manufacturers will cover it if it is broken under normal use...
  22. Saw the article in the Springfield paper this morning... They had several locations where they could consider, the main one that stands out to me is the one they talked about on crane creek. Bad idea. Ill be the first to admit that I don't know much about this whole water usage thing, but It would make a lot of sense and save money if they tried to use existing resevoirs before blowing money on a new lake.
  23. Not sure what species, but I think it's probably a spider's. I've seen them out before and just assumed that's what they were, so I'm really just guessing. Would be neat to find out...
  24. I've done both spin and fly fishing at rivercut, and had about the same amount of success. When spinfishing, I used brown grubs and the little rebel crawfish crankbaits and thats about all I ever had to bring. When fly fishing, I used to use just about every streamer I had, but would occaisionally throw a hopper or something to catch bluegill. As far as whether it's bank fishing or wading, I can't even think of anywhere where there is really that good of bank fishing. If you want to get on fish, be prepared to get wet.
  25. At the water??? I'd just aim for the shufflers...
