  1. Hey Grizzly, thanks a lot. Sounds like we are kindred spirits. I do fish some red zebras as well. Don't get nearly as many as on black. I am a presentation guy too. I focus on depthand drift and usually fish 6x flouro. So I guess I won't over complicate my color selection.
  2. Can't beat a zebra midge black, silver bead and rib in 16-20 on the NF. Depth varies considerably from about 18" to 3' depending on where you are and how the fish are acting.
  3. Thanks Fog and Dain. I appreciate your reports. Guess I will have to see it for myself. Been fishing the Current from Tan Vat to Cedar for neary 30 years now. Its always been a quality river. I don't know what happened to this site. Not like I was asking for secret holes or such. Just was wanting some general feedback. I know the river gets a lot of pressure but still there are mostly decent, respectable fly fishers below the park and I have been one of them for many years.
  4. I am so surprised by the lack of responses. I have been a member of this forum for many years and while I don't post on here much I have always received responses and found members to be friendly and knowledgeable. What's going on?
  5. Thanks, I will get more copper in the mix.
  6. Yeah used to pound them on the White with those. Thanks.
  7. Yeah I tie other colors but don't catch nearly as many fish on them.
  8. Any updates on how the Current is fishing? The February reports are pretty dismal. Although, I don't guess there is any reason to be too concerned, it has always bounced back well from floods. I am planning to get down there in the next couple of weeks and would appreciate any updates. Thanks in advance.
  9. I fish the Norfork a few times every year and over the years have gotten to the point of fishing almost exclusively black-silver-silver zebra midges when I fish zebras. Being the pragmitist that I am, the reason for this is because simply put they work really well. Anyone have any advice on other colors that seem to work well.
  10. Anyone seeing or hearing any cicadas? There is supposed to be a brood hatching but I don't know if it will reach the Current. Have really enjoyed fishing them in the past. Thanks in advance for any response.
  11. Anyone seeing or hearing any periodical cicadas on the Norfork? There is supposed to be a brood hatching. Thanks in advance for any responses.
  12. That's him, thanks Steve.
  13. Spent some time talking and fishing with a great guy named Tom on 5/7. We were down at the corner hole below the park. I stupidly didn't get his last name, but he told me he had access to one of the cabins right below the park and that he lives in Rolla. Anyone know his last name or have an email address?
  14. I completely respect all fishing styles and preferences. I have seen guys fishing jerk baits on the Current and they know what they are doing. I do worry about treble hooks. Just seems that they pose a greater risk of badly injuring fish. I just wish that MO could bring itself to have some true C&R areas so that people don't legally kill an 18.5" brown. The Current could become a premier brown trout fishery if it was C&R and then maybe more of us fly guys could catch a 5 pounder every now and then.
  15. Jgentile, sounds like you and I are in about the same place in life. Having grown up fishing fly only C&R regulated waters in PA, where there are hundreds of more miles of trout water then in MO, I can attest to the effectiveness of such regs. But I don't think it requires legislation to develop such regs. MO DOC has the authority I believe. I remember years ago when they were looking to change the regulations on Little Piney a DOC officer who worked LP asked me to write a letter supporting the changes which I did. I doubt my letter did much, but the changes were put into effect the following year. So maybe mounting a grass roots effort could finally bring C&R to places like the Current and North Fork.
  16. I hear this is a good pattern for the NF. I have never tied one but was able to find the pattern readily on line. What colors are best for the NF?
  17. I just don't understand why someone would kill an 18.5" brown on this beautiful stream. Seems like such a waste when a person can go trout shopping just upstream if they want to eat some. However, that MO DOC can't bring themselves to any type of catch and release regulations allows for this practice.
  18. Thanks, good info, should be good next weekend.
  19. Any caddis coming off yet? I'm thinking about heading down to the White next weekend 3/28 and I am planning on bringing my lady. Would love to get her into some easy catching if the caddis are active. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
  20. Thanks! Nice pattern.
  21. I like the looks of that 'jiggy' pheasant tail. Any chance you would be willing to give out the recipe?
  22. Awesome video! Now to just figure out how to tie an imitation that hovers a few inches off the water...
  23. We pounded them on soft hackles last week, brown and yellow bodies. And, of course, zebra midges.
  24. The Norfork and the White both have excellent wading opportunities when the damns are not releasing water. Also, consider the Current and North Fork in MO. Both are great streams and well managed. The Current has a trout park at its headwaters, an unfortunate phenomena that MO came up with, but below that are several miles of just excellent water for wading. The North Fork is a little bigger and not as accessible as the Current, but it has a great population of wild rainbows. Happy wading!
