  1. check the usgs charts as far as flows are concerned you can find a link to it in the james river section but under normal circumstances you should be able to paddle way past 65 bridge and even a little ways past the highway 60 bridge before you ever hit any kind of substantial current and as far as the temp its just like most other rivers in the state until you get down to the power plant and it will be a little warmer, in the winter to the lower lake stays a nearly constant 70 degrees or so and the same goes for below the dam for a little ways as long as there is water going over the dam
  2. the not so friendly landowner has good reason to be less then friendly in my opinion. Iv hauled hay for him on several occasions, and two years ago a bunch of drunks parked down there caught his hay field on fire. he called the sherrif on them and mysteriously two nights later he had about 40 round bales that were in the same field that were up by the road further up in the field catch on fire. I dont blame him at all for not welcoming people with open arms. however on his behalf he is a good guy and even a fellow fisherman.
  3. where do you normally go to catch the bigger gills my grandpa used to talk about him and my dad catchin some bruiser blue gill in mill creek when they lived down there
  4. hey guys Iv got the day off and the yard is mowed turkeys dont seem to like me this year iv only been twice and its sucked both times. me and my fiance are gonna go fishing we just cant decide where. iv never fished mcdaniels but id give it a try if someone could kinda fill me in on it. i was thinkin fellows but i dont really wanna have to drag my boat up there. has anyone been catching anything around the bridge or the doc the marina lady said no but iv got to the point where i dont believe her cause everything she has ever told me has been wrong i dont know why i even call her any more if any of you could help id appreciate it. thanks in advance
  5. no prob lilley its fixed now and im glad thanks for ur info
  6. there is a lot of access to it in the national forest around chadwick but most of it is private til u get down around taney county and then when you get that low you are going to be bombarded by us sucker grabbers starting sunday. best way to get in is start knockin on doors askin permission, the worst they can say is no.
  7. when i look at a topic its in bullet for and i cant figure out how to get it back to norm whats the dealio?
  8. hey there good to see a new face, I am in ozark and go to springfield lake and fellows quite a bit in the summer months. I personally would be hard pressed to eat a fish out of springfield lake. it may be fine now but years ago it was nasty. I dont know if it ever has cleaned up. The lake is good for some pretty awesome bass action. anything from pitchin a tube at submerged cover and weeds to jerkbaits on the bluff bank. its also good for catfish however the usually run small. If you catch one that weighs three pounds your doin good. it also has some crappie. many of the bass we catch out of springfield lake have sores on them which leads me to think its something in the water. I have actually never fished mcdaniels but from what I hear it is fine, Fellows is a great little lake. Its close to home yet has that big lake enviroment. excellent crappie population as well as good walleye, muskie and catfish. The lake is clean, it is the source for springfield drinking water, and the fish are fine to eat. Years ago people used to fish a lot from the earthen bridge at night with lights for crappie, with pretty good success. I can remember my dad talkin about goin up and catchin 80 crappie a night but they were all really small, like in the six inch range. that has all changed thanks to the walleye and muskie now there are nice crappie in the lake and even the odd 14 incher. I dont know much about fishing from the bank up there because I have a boat that I use. I would say your best bet right now is to fish at the hot water discharge at springfield lake. The fish have a tendancy to move into that warmer water when the temp drops in the rest of the lake. There are some bruiser large mouth that come out of there too, We had a neighbor that caught one several years ago that was a little over 8 pounds. shoot me a pm sometime maybe we could meet up and do a little fishin from my boat. G. G.
  9. taxi for some reason I just cant seem to agree with ya on this one. trout can adapt to warmer waters. they are stocked into lake taneycomo but i have caught them not in large numbers mind you but i have caught rainbow trout way up in beaver creek and swan as well they are warm water creeks, there was no dam in these streams that destroyed warm water fish habitat but they are still there regardless. The horses arent going to hurt a thing. however i wil agree that people should not be allowed to just release horses out in the wild anymore. but these horses are there, and have been there for many years. they are a staple in that part of the state.
  10. yeah the property is a pretty amazing place. but back onto the fish. since i posted on here last my dad has started catching them. i have not had a chance to go but hope to go tomorrow for a little bit. he caught 10 fish that he considers keepers we kind of imposed a limit on ourselves we keep nothing under 9 inches. and the second day he caught 13 keepers and about 10 more that were under 9 inches
  11. yes and no i started there with little luck so i moved down considerably before i started picking up fish.
  12. we fished over the brush piles the weeds are starting to die off and the o2 is pretty low around them so we focused more on brush piles. however we noticed something chasing bait fish all over the lake and then the guys catching the small crappie out in the middle of the lake about 5 feet deep. so I am wondering if maybe they arent suspended in mid lake the deeper u fish the bigger the fish will get? I dont know just a guess, however i hate fishing for suspended fish especially when there is no cover in site, its just to tedious. Thanks on the bird and actually from the time i walked passes the hay barn where i was parked at i was there 17 minutes. shootin a turkey on this place is like shootin fish in a barrel. i see between 30 and fifty birds on any given day. two years ago in the spring i had 9 gobblers struttin in the alfalfa field along with 4 jakes and 7 hens. its been very well managed and very selective on who can hunt this property. there is like an unwritten rule that no hen is to be killed period not with a bow not with a gun fall hunting or otherwise. G.G.
  13. Hey all I was able to slip away for a few hours and do a little fishing I fished right down town ozark. started at around 11 30 or so and fish till about 2 30. It was by far the best trip iv had in a long time. The holes I fished had in the past few weeks not held any fish but after the water came up and went back down which it is down considerably now and even a bit low, they are there. I was able to catch about 35 goggle eye in the 8 to 10 inch range and a couple or three smaller than 8 inches. 2 crappie one 9 inches and the other 13inches, which was quite a suprise. a caught five or six small mouth most of them very small id say under 5 inches, and one that might have went 12. I also caught a whole pile of bluegill that were very small. and 2 good sized creek chubs. I caught all these on a small crappie tube bate in a crawdad color with some black fleck in them. I would throw into the edge of the current and start a slow retrieve back reeling very slow and just twitching the bait so the bait bounced across the bottom. Once i figured the retreive out that they liked it was almost non stop every cast. all in all it was a great day and its nice to get back on a river without the boats and noise. good fishin G.G.
  14. we fished fellows for about four hours last week and it was slow surface temp was reading in the low 80s we managed one small crappie 6 or 8 inches and another about 11 and two short walleye. it was good to get the boat out and do a little fishing on the lake its been nearly 3 months since the boat was in the water. i hoping things will be picking back up here soon. with the water temp starting to drop. however i did see two guys sitting right in the middle of the lake. using bobbers about 5 foot deep using minnows and crankin the crappie in left and right but they averaged i would say in the 7 inch range hardly big enough to consider keeping for me but i dont guess for them, they put every fish they caught in a cooler.
