  1. I am the oldest of 5 boys and now appreciate what may late dad did for us. In the late 60's and early 70's we would make the trip several times a year. What sticks out most in my memories were the annual trips during Christmas vacation. Every year between Christmas and New Years dad would take those of us old enough, to fish out of River Lake. Most all of the stores and cafes were closed for the season but we would always stop at the piggly-wiggly on our way in. We would consinantly catch limits of large 2-4 lb trout fishing out of a 16 ft. v bottom and powered by a sears air cooled 7 hp. It seems like they were always running water and it would take as long to get back up river as the drift itself took. How my dad could manage re-tieing rigs and help us all at the same time is a mystery, as there would be 4 of us in the boat at a time. (the younger brothers all had to wear those blasted orange neck life jackets). None of us had snow mobile suits so we would just layer up with what we had. We would all pray for snow on the last days because that would give us an excuse to stay for an extra day or two untill we could get out. This may sound like a tribute to my dad but..maybe it is. He not only taught us about fishing, but about the importance of God in our life. Thanks Dad.
  2. I could use some help here. I used to be an avid (twice a week) fisherman and now am the proud father of 2 city raised children.(4&8). I have been interducing them to bank fishing (sold my boat) and would like to find a guide who loves helping kids appreciate fishing. I am willing to pull the older girl out of shcool to put her on a weekday white bass run on either Bull Shoals or TR. Any reccomendations or contacts appreciated.
  3. Hi, I worked at Rverlake Resort while in high school some 30+ years ago when Alan and Donna Thompson owned it. Yes, I cut grass, painted the dock, and helped guests load their boats, but I also got to take folks out fishing (first timers) and put them on trout. My memories of the lake are unspoiled, before condos, and yes, even before bass boats were popular on the lake. There used to be a flashing red light in downtown Branson, and that was it. I now have children, (4&8) but am hesitent to come back down because of all of the changes. I want to share with my kids now, just like my dad did with my brothers and me but I want to protect them from the crowds, bad mannors, and rudeness that appears to dominate Taneycomo now. Comments?
