  1. I had a similar situation at a local lake here in Kansas City. I was out fly fishing for stocked rainbow trout there. A black SUV pulls up about 20 yards to the side of me next to my truck and watches me as I was fly fishing for a good 10 minutes. I am sure he was aware of my back cast and how far it goes back behind me. He sees me catch a trout. I lay my fly rod down on the ground where I caught the trout at and head to my vehicle to get a stringer. This guy, proceeds to back his vehicle all the way to where I was fishing at and parks it where my back cast was going. The area he parked at was not even a parking spot, it was all grass. Where he was originally parked at it was graveled up. Then he has the nerve to approach me while I was looking for my stringer to tell me he wanted to try fly fishing too because he has never done it before. I wanted to say, First of all, you need to respect a fly fisherman's casting by not parking your vehicle at his back cast. Then he asked, is that all you do is whip it back and forth to cast it? I looked at him and did not say a single word to him. I went to get my fly rod, got in my truck, and went somewhere else.
  2. I ended up going today and got the konic 3.5. The konic was lighter than the RLS and holds more line. Thanks for the all the comments!! The Cabela's RLS is still on sale on their website if anyone is interested.
  3. I am currently looking for an 8wt large arbor fly reel and can't spend too much money on it. Cabela's has their RLS fly reel on sale on their website for $84.99, originally priced at $135.00. Anyone have any experience with this reel? Mainly going to use it for bass, wipers/stripers, and carp. How is the drag system on it? Is it smooth? Does it have the power to hold running carp or wipers/stripers?
  4. As long as it is fishable water, I am ok with that. I will keep an eye on the conditions for RR. Thanks for the reply.
  5. Hey, I was planning on making a trip down to RR sometime in mid May. I was wondering what the water conditions in May is like. Does it flood as bad as Bennett?
  6. That would be great. Thank you for the info. Is the upper Kinni better than the lower? Which would you rather fish?
  7. That is awesome. I am looking forward to getting some information.
  8. Has anyone fished the Kinnickinnic River before in the area of River Falls, WI before? We are planning a trip up there in July sometime and would like some advice on what to bring. I will definately be bringing my 3wt. What assortment of flies should I take with me. I was reading that the river will be packed full of wild brooks and german browns, 8000-9000 fish per mile. Any good places to camp up there close to there? Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  9. I was out there for the derby over the weekend. Only 24 tags got turned in out of 100. I have never been to one prior to the weekend. Is that pretty normal, or are the tags usually turned in at a greater number? I am sure the discolored and high water did not help the event. If you were there over the weekend, was the crowd there about the normal size on derby weekend? The water was up over the weekend. Both bridges were closed off when we got there. The river was running greenish color and fast. Even for the high water, the fish did not seem to mind it. They were still biting really good. I caught the majority of my fish on san juans, brown scuds, hares ears, Y2Ks, and a bead head green weenie (in white version). I even caught some on cracklebacks on top of the water. Even with the off colored water, the fish can still see your fly. A lot of the fish I caught over the weekend were very nice in size. I caught several in the 15-19 inch range, including 2 Browns (16 and 18 inches). All fish were released back to the water for another person to catch.
  10. Where is campground 5 at? We have always camped in 3 and 4.
  11. My buddy wants to try his luck at the derby, so looks like we will be down there that weekend. Is the water still high or is it starting to go back down. I am hoping it will return to somewhat normal by the time we arrive. I would really like to do some dry fly/terrestrial fishing. Nothing beats a top water take!
  12. I did not know there was a derby happening that weekend. Hrmmm. Has anyone ever gone to one of these derbies? If so, is it worth fighting the crowd? All campsites in BSSP are booked solid that weekend. I have never camped anywhere outside of the park before and was wondering if there were any outside.
  13. Well, there was a last minute planning on going to BSSP with some friends on Oct. 9-11. But, all campsites are reserved and cannot get a site at all. Even spilt reservations of campsites are out of the question. Are there any close to the park campsites that are fairly good and clean? If so, where at, how much per day, and the name of the campsite?
  14. What size zebra midge are they hitting on?
  15. I have a trip coming up in the second weekend of September down to the White River. We will be staying at the Rainbow Drive Resort again. I need to prepare and some advice on what flies to tie in advance. Last year I did the best stripping olive wooly buggers. I also caught several on san juans, hares ears, pheasant tails, zebra midges, and y2k. Any suggestions on dry flies? What flies to get them bigger browns or rainbows? Is the water going to be wadeable? Thanks in advance.
