  1. Stream is up-great to see all of the water. Saturday most fish caught on san-juan worm fished deep. With the exception of a few sporadic risers most fish were hugging the bottom to beat the swift current. Sunday caught several deep drifting a black bead head wooly bugger. Sat. fished mostly in the branch that the park entry road follows. Sun. fished the regular season fly only zone. Most fish were 10-11" with a couple of fat 16-17 inchers thrown in. Not many fisherman out seemed to have the entire park to ourselves. Great time.
  2. Fished Sat. and Sun. morning between boat launch and KOA. Upstream of boat launch looked like opening day in a trout park. Managed 4 small sub 12 in trout on 20 gray scud and san juan worm. Had one on that looked to be 16-17 inch on but broke off on first run-using to big of a fly for 7x. Didn't see much catching going on around me. I have not fished Taney much this year but in last several years have made 6-7 yearly trips. Seems like the number of trout in the area I fished was very low. Usually see all kinds of fish in the shallows midging and hanging out and lots out in deeper water picking scuds. Where are the trout? Have they shocked lately? Maybe they are all upstream and I need to move upstream and combat fish a little. Long story short very very tough fishing.
  3. Fished the fly only and c&r area. As continues to be the case for the last several years Montauk really needs rain-water is very low and clear. Ton of fish in the stream. Caught lots of fish on san-juan worms (red), olive hairs (sp)ear(16), small olive wooly (20). My son did well with various spinners and san-juan. With the exception of an hour or so each day the fishing was easy and a great place to fish with kids.
  4. The otter has destroyed the sport fishing on two streams I fish North of the Missouri River. They were extremly fragile and productive fisheries which thanks to MDC's reintroduction are now destroyed. It was probably just a matter of time before the fisheries were destroyed because if the otters had not decimated the fish population I'm sure MDC would have built twenty million access points on the rivers which would have destroyed them.
