Thanks for the post. I have a buddy that might go down today. According to Southwest Power they were generating about 60% all day yesterday and will do so again today all day. Did not have the schedule posted for Friday yet. Tight Lines. I will post if my buddy goes down.

Just wondering if anyone has been down. I am thinking about heading down this weekend to give it a whirl if they are going to be generating water. I will post if I go. Any reports would be appreciated. Tight Lines!

If any of you do night fishing with lights you might want to check out this website - www.loomisled.com. I have been looking at getting some LED lights to mount on my transom for night fishing, but the supposedly really good and powerful ones were like $800 a light (OceanLED etc). Saw this guy's e-bay ad for transom mounted lights. Called him up and talked to him for about thirty minutes (Andy Loomis). Retired MIT educated engineer. Gave me the rundown on his lights and why they were better than the expensive lights, etc. THE COST? $70.00 for a 9 LED light that only pulls 1.5 amps. Bought two for the boat transom and one 15 led drop light. Got them yesterday. Hooked them to the battery at my boat dealer/shop when I was picking my boat up. THEY ARE INCREDIBLE!!!!!. The guy at the boat dealer said he wanted to get their number so he could get some of their lights. Anyway, I had been looking for a year. I haven't put them on the boat yet, but I have no doubt I will be completely satisfied. So, this is just an FYI so you can check them out and make your own decision. He makes dock lights, drop lights, gigging lights, etc. Tight Lines!.

When I troll for Wiper, I use the Rapala DT 14 . Silver and black or White and Chartreuse. Caught alot of them on lakes around KC. It is all about the depth and what depth they are holding at. You might also try an umbrela rig. You can also rig the crankbaits with a flourocarbon leader and a swivel and run a jig head with a sassy shad of it it so you have baits at two depths. The DT series crankbaits are a dive to a certain depth. You might get DT 10 14 and even an 18 or 20 depending on what depth you are fishing.

I haven't had a chance to get down. I almost went Sunday morning, but they were not supposed to be generating any water. I have a buddy who said he fished the Wier Saturday and they were catching Crappie and saw a few hybrids caught. Can anyone share what they have seen or heard? Thanks.

It is a long trip for alot of people, myself included. What kind of water were they runing? Thanks again for posting.

Below The Dam Sunday Afternoon April 15
Wahoo61 posted a topic in Truman Tailwater/Upper Osage River
Drove down to the Dam from KC through rain and thunderstorms. Got to the Dam, it was raining and overcast. Topwater bite was off the hook. (Well, I should say it was good when I got there, but everyone said it was crazy good before I got there). Stringers looked like they were not exagerating. Fished the Gate side (East). Running negligible water through the turbines. They were hitting chart.or white spooks, hog sticks, Blue and Silver Ba Donk a Donk (I think that is what it is called). I did not have any small spooks in white or chart. Threw some spooks and caught some whites. Threw a small Vixen walk the dog bait and caught a few (Black and Silver). Caught an 8lb on a Bone Large Vixen walk the dog bait. THen my buddy showed up with live shad and I thought it was going to be on like donkey kong. WRONG!!!!!. We caught some fish on the shad, but it was not spectacular. It may have been that the live shad we had were smaller than what they were feeding on. All in all a good day. Several people I talked to said Saturday was crazy good. Fishing in the rain and nasty conditions was much better than when it cleared off. THe fishing was pretty good all down the gate side from the fence down towards the Handicap dock. I don't know how they were doing on the turbine (west) side, but there were people over there. -
Below The Dam Sat. Afternoon And Sunday
Wahoo61 posted a topic in Truman Tailwater/Upper Osage River
Got down the the dam about 4:30 Saturday. Had live shad. East Side (Gate Side) was packed, so I went to West Side (Turbine SIde) and tried the point. Nothing, looked like they were running two units, went down to the road bed, (below the spillway and between there and the rail walkway, nothing). Did not fish long. Went to the Gate side, alot of people, found a spot about 40 yards from the fence. Alot guys throwing hog sticks (by the way, it went from overcast and rainy to sun comming out when I got there). First cast, caught a small hybrid, and I thought, hey , this will be good. THen it shut off for about an hour. Nobody catching anything. All the guys there said there were wearing the hybrids and whites out on top while it was raining and overcast, until just before I got there (always the case). Then about 5:30, caught about an 8 lb hybrid, then about four more, not as big, and some whites. Guys with me caught maybe another 10. We were doing better on the live shad. Went down at 5:30 this morning, really slow,by two caught about 15 decent whites and probably 15 Bass. All on live shad. No hybrids caught that I saw, nothing on top. They are catching limits of crappie around the point (Gate or east side), every time I go down there. -
Thanks Drbucketmouth, I do my best. I am hoping this thread will be more active because it sure is nice to have some prior knowledge before you head down. I really expected the wiper bite to be on given the water temps. I am going down again this weekend and plan on putting the candy out there (live shad). Normally, the wiper bite turns on at the end of April- early May. But the water temperatures are already above the 57-60 you normally see then, so I think it could happen any time. Tight lines.

Gates were not open. They were not running much water through the generators.

Went down Sunday morning, got there about 15 minutes later than I would have liked.(about 6:50). By the time I got on my rock and got all my stuff straight, it was about 7:00. Water is up and the rocks on the ledge on the gate side are just above water and you have to wade to get to them. Fish hitting topwater. Quite a few good sized whites caught while I was there, most on topwater. I saw green spooks, green hog sticks and other topwaters being thrown, the chartreause seemed to be the best color, although I caught as many or more whites on a silver and black vixen walk the dog bait. I only saw two hybrids caught and they were 3 lbs or less. Alot of crappie being caught right on the point on the gate side. Saw once nice stringer come out of there, and watched several other guys catching them right and left on whte and chart. slider type bait, probably a 3 inch on 1/4 ounce jig head. They were not running much water. I think if I had been there when you could first see, I would have caught alot more fish (along with not back lashing my Abu Record Cast over and over again). They do not have the buoy line up, which is a plus. Water was stained. After the topwater bite shut off, I threw everything I had and did not catch another fish (spoons, jigs, etc). Saw very few fish caught after the first hour to 1/5 hours. I left about 10:00 and went over to the turbine side, and watched for a while. Nobody catching anything and no stringers in the water.

Anyone Seeing Hybrids Or Shad In The Upper Creek Arms/coves?
Wahoo61 replied to Wahoo61's topic in Truman Lake
Thanks for the response!!!!! I am probably going to head up there this weekend. I will report back. Thanks again. -
Just wondering if you guys that have been out on the lake have seen any Hybrid activity or Shad on top back in the coves or creek arms? Thanks for any reports you give. Tight lines!!!!

Just wondering if the Corps has the buoy line up below the dam? I haven't been down yet, but I am thinking that in the next two weeks it ought to start in earnest below the dam. The water temperature on the lake is 50 according to the daily lake information. Over the last couple of years, when the water temp hits 55 to 57 is where the Hybrids and white bass seem to turn on below the dam, at least according to my observations. Given that the temperatures on the lake in the coves(reiver arms) have been reported in the 60s on the lake I suspect they have been trying to spawn there. Any reports of anyone lucky enough to have gotten down there would be appreciated. Tight lines!!!!
-
I always go by the daily lake information number for Truman. I understand that it is not the actual temperature below the dam, but probably pretty close. The reports indicate that they are catching Walleye and some wipers and white bass. However, I have not been down. My experience is that it does not really get good in terms of hybrids until the lake water temperature gets closer to 57. I usually start making trips down when the lake temperature gets into the 50s.

Below the dam, above the dam at O3, G4 fishing the humps and around KK island fishing the humps. They are likely to surface around any of the spots if they are there, generally when it is overcast, or early in the morning or late in the evening. I fish for hybrids, not whites, so cannot help you there. Good luck.
-
I was down on Sunday. It was overcast and the whites and hybrids were occassionally hitting on top below the dam. Did nothing on the lake. However, I only fished O3. Storm came in and I was done. Below the dam later in the day after the storm they were hitting out in the middle, but could not get to them. I left before it got late. All I know.

Cannot read the first post. What is the price on the real? Thank, Lee.

I had two good days two weeks ago on a Monday and a Thursday. Caught over 30 each day, hybrids ran in the 3-5 lb class with one 9lb and then the Thursday was about half whites and hybrids, with the largest about 7-8 lbs. Then they shut the water off and it has been dead. Some friends of mine fished last Monday, and nothing was happening. With the cold front I think it will take a few days for them to turn back on. They were starting to hit on top, but I did not see any caught on top water baits. Just my two cents. Wiggle wart, sounds like we fished the same day (two weeks ago Monday). Which side were you on? We fished the gate side from about 3-6:30.

You never can tell about the tail race, but there are alot of hybrids and whites being caught. Water flow is everything as you probably know. Saturday and Sunday will be a zoo. I believe the top water bite is going to start soon. They were hitting on top for a brief period yesterday. The Corp says the water surface temperature is 61. Good Luck.
