  1. So, this Saturday the 11th Ill be getting married! I know that has nothing to do with fishing, BUT my future wife made a suggestion that really surprised me....but also made me realize how much I really do love her. Instead of using boutonnieres for myself and my groomsmen, and knowing my obsession with fly fishing, my fiance suggested I tie up some flies using our wedding colors and use them instead! Caught me by surprise but I thought it was a really unique idea! I went with a wooly bugger style pattern because I wanted something you could see, and also because its really easy to include a lot of color in them! Our colors are black, purple, and white. Ill get a picture of my finished product up when I can. I just thought Id share this idea with you so that you could use it, or pass it on to others! Thanks for reading this!
  2. Willing to share a recipe?
  3. Dry fly fishing is pretty good then. Foam beetles, ants, blue wing olives, a few hoppers. Also some midges, San Juan worms, egg patterns, glo balls, and wooly buggers. The fish are kinda picky about seeing your line...so use 6 or 7x. Also, stop by Tims and he can tell you where the fishing is most productive, and what the fish are keying in on!
  4. Gray and Cream together...or separate? I use blue dun midges a lot too and its more of a gray color. It produces well. About the same size?
  5. Awesome. I went out last Sunday and fished where the catch and release area is or use to be?? I did well on a size 18 olive midge. Hopefully that'll continue this weekend!
  6. So, what fly do you have the most success on below Beaver? I ask because I'm taking my fiance fly fishing this weekend and wan her to be able to catch a fish or two! I usually do well on midges...olive, black, and red....but I'd like some ideas. Much appreciated!
  7. I've got a TFO. It was my first "expensive" rod I bought myself when I first became obsessed with fly fishing! I love it. It's a 5wt and I've never had any problems with it and it continues to cast like it was new.
  8. So, I'm looking into getting a new rod for bass and bigger flies. I'm not sure what weight to get though. I figure it would be a 7 or 8 wt. I've looked at the St. Croix Rio Santo's and the Bob Clouser rods from TFO because they're in my price range, and both companies have good products. Any feed back would be helpful.
  9. I'm the stupid guy that usually tries to get in a few more casts as the horn blares on for ten minutes. No, it's not the brightest thing I've ever done, but I was always out of the water or close enough to a bank that I could get out of the water. I strongly advise against this type of fishing and discourage anyone from reading this response.
  10. That it was. Ive made my point.
  11. Haha, oh the weather was bad...but still managing to catch a brown, rainbow, and a brookie all in the same weekend made the fishing just a little better than the title reads. Did I mention the weather was bad?
  12. Got to spend the weekend on the White and had a great time, despite the weather and slow fishing. The water was up on Friday and Saturday and I fished at Norfork for the first time! Caught a few rainbows and brookies on an egg pattern, but they weren't consistent. On Saturday the rain and chilly conditions made fishing difficult but I still managed a few fish. Today I was able to fish at Cotter and caught a few on an elk hair caddis when there was a hatch. It was strange, the hatch would be heavy for about 15-20 minutes and then it would stop. I obviously need to learn more about the river to be more productive the next time I'm there. Perhaps I should hire a guide for the next trip!
  13. Yeah, you can still get to it. Dont drive through the quarry, just stay to the right and you'll come to a spot where they've blocked off the road that ran to the edge of the water. Park there, and then just walk down to the water. Its about 100-150 yrds. I normally head back upstream towards the Watts area and have pretty good luck. I can usually pull in 5-6 pretty quick with a green wooly.
  14. I usually do well at T&M whenever I fish there. There are bigger fish there, or so it seems to me. Its a nice place to strip bigger streamers and there's RARELY a crowd. Marval is a good place if its not on a holiday weekend...or there arent a ton of people at the camp! Its hard being a tall guy (Im 6'4) and trying to sneek up on the already skidish fish in the LIR, but it is possible!
  15. Ill be there this weekend! Im hoping it doesnt rain ALL weekend so that my lady friend and I can get some fishing in. Ill fish in the rain....she wont
  16. Made my way to Roaring River to try my luck. Arrived about 10:30 or so and grabbed my tag before heading up to Tim's to see what was working. Drove around Zone 1 and 3 to see JUST how crowded it was. Pretty much shoulder to shoulder in most places...so I decided to try my luck in the Catch and Release area. It started off slow, but when I decided to try out some dries....the strikes started picking up. I tried a BWO...no luck. Then I went with a white cahill...managed one. Then I tried a big orange stimulator with a size 22 parachute adams trailing it. I managed four (2 on either fly) before I decided to change to a red midge (the wind wasnt helping my casting). Fished a few runs with the red midge and picked up 3-4 more and missed half a dozen. Lots of kids and people playing in a lot of the good places in Zone 2,...so I just explored and hiked around the river the rest of the day. Fantastic weather and Im excited for the dry fly fishing to pick up. I LOVE when they start taking beetles and hoppers!
  17. Here are two nice Rainbows I caught(and released) on the Blue River on the weekend of the 11-13th. The one in the net was caught on a Olive Wooly. The one Im holding I caught at dusk on a size 14 brassie. Weighed about 4 lbs!
  18. Thanks for the info and the link! Much appreciated. I'm hoping the rivers down!
  19. True, but the people running the tournament have requested water be generated. May fish Norfork if they do run the water. How many can be running and you are still able to wade?
  20. I've considered that, but that's more money :-/
  21. Thanks for the info! I figured they generated on a need to basis, but I'd heard that with the tournament going on, the chances of them generating was greater. Oh, and I'll be staying at His Place Resort.
  22. So, I've made my reservations at a resort on the White for the 25th-26th of March. During that time, I've learned, there will be a fishing tournament and most likely water to high to wade in! If this is true, is there anywhere that could provide wading access? If the white is running, will the Norfork be as well? Any information would be helpful! I really don't want to have to cancel my reservations because I can't get to the fish! :-/
  23. Haha, I like how you narrowed that down ;-)
  24. Hopefully the weather cooperates this weekend! I've been cooped up inside by the snow and flu for about a week and need my fix! Tied up some olive zebras in a size 18, along with a few other little midges! Hope to make a trip out there on Sunday!
  25. Any luck?
