Look out, we've got a wiseguy here! Thanks for the info, I'll work on the Bob Whites and hair and coppers for my next trip down! I hope to have your luck my next time on the stream!
-
Where did you catch this multitude of fish? Im looking to try my luck at the lower Illinois or make my way to the roaring, depending on the weather and generation. Also, what materials will I need for tying the bob white?
-
If I wasn't in the middle of moving this weeknd, I'd love to join you. My uncle went down there yesterday and caught one that he said went 3-4 lbs. That's a nice size for the lower Illinois! He caught it off a red midge. Best of luck to you, hope they hold off on generation!

Thanks for the info! What zone were you fishing in?
-
So, the fly that was most productive was a hares ear and copper john, or is it something else?
-
I fished there today and wasn't very productive this time around. I saw lots of people catching fish consistently, I just wasn't one of them. Went by Tims and grabbed a few beetles and elk hairs, but everywhere I wanted to use them was crowded. Maybe next time I'll ask to fish in the stocking pools . Good luck DaddyO!

New Fly Reel...having Trouble
On The Fly 6 replied to On The Fly 6's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Got the reel fixed, but use it as a spare now. I Feel like a dunce because it was a simple problem to fix. I simply had it set up to reel with the wrong hand. If you now think less of me, I would understand. -
Wish I could join you! Go by tims or wait for a response from him, he seems like a knowledgeable guy.

On The Fly 6 replied to Zack Hoyt's topic in Beaver Tailwater/Upper White River
Any ideas on what the generation schedule is going to look like tomorrow? -
Didnt make it to Tenkiller this weekend. I decided to try the Beaver Lake tailwaters instead. Probably would have caught more fish at Tenkiller, but I didnt have to drive as far . How did you fair?

Fishing On Valentines Day?
On The Fly 6 replied to Adam B's topic in Beaver Tailwater/Upper White River
I fished today, up near the dam. Caught 4 in about 2 hours. Caught them all on something different, but couldnt find anything they would consistently hit on. Caught one on a copper john, mayfly nymph, black zebra midge, and the last one came on a big olive beaded wooly. Fingertips started going numb, even through my gloves and my fly line was iced over so I decided to call it a day. Did Valentines on Friday with my fiance, so part of my Valentines was getting to go fishing -
Fishing Trip Tomorrow! (Feb 6Th)
On The Fly 6 replied to On The Fly 6's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
Nah, I probably wasnt being patient enough. If I dont get a take after about 20 seconds of my fly being on the water...I pick it up and put it somewhere else. If I had stuck with it for longer, Im sure I could have gotten something to bite out of boredom... -
Fishing Trip Tomorrow! (Feb 6Th)
On The Fly 6 replied to On The Fly 6's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
I tried a BWO, crackleback, and a soft hackle (that I probably tied funky) and got nothing. Watched them eat a big mayfly or two that happened to land on the water...but didnt see enough action to switch to one. -
Fishing Trip Tomorrow! (Feb 6Th)
On The Fly 6 replied to On The Fly 6's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
Went out with my uncle and got a late start. Didnt get to the water until noon. Started at the pool just in front of the gravel parking area because the fish were breaking the surface everywhere! I thought It was going to be a great day...but in fact, it was kinda slow. I caught 6, but couldnt find anything they would hit consistently. I tried various colors and sizes and just couldnt find a steady producer. My uncle did well on a red midge, and taking note from him I tied on something red as well. This produced 2 fish. I caught 2 off of a white wooly as well. The last 2 were on a copper john I believe? After my uncle left around 2:30, I continued fishing in various areas and didnt catch anything else. I finished up the day above the kiddie pool and saw a father and son pull fish in left and right. I would have asked what they were using, but I was cold and hungry so I went ahead and called it a day around 4:30. Im hoping to return to the river with better luck and a few more flies in my box! Wish the report was better, but my last 2 trips just haven't been as fish filled as I would like. I think Im starting to become a good luck charm to whomever Im fishing with, because this is the 2nd time Ive been out fished by a family member. -
Hoping to make it to the stream at Tenkiller tomorrow! Tying up some flies late tonight to try out. Im also looking forward to trying the new non-leaking waders! Anyone else plan on trying their luck?
-
OKFF44, I was at the gravel parking area near the kiddie pool and the tree stumps. My uncle was down near the watts area and said it was crowded! He said he did well on a red midge. I got down there around 11:30 or 12. I stayed until around 5 pm.

Fishing Report - 1/24

So, my question for you guys is...whats the best way to fish the soft hackle? Ive never had much success with them the few times ive tried. Any suggestions or video's online I could look at? -
The fishing was good today! Caught all my fish on a white prolite jig, fished near the bottom. I finished with about 10, some dinks and a few bigger ones. I always neglect my camera...so no pictures this time. I went with my future brother in-law, and I dont know what he was doing right...but he couldnt get the fish off his line fast enough! He was throwing a white wooly and giving it a short violent twitch every 5 seconds and they destroyed it! I tried the same thing...got a few hits here and there. I was practically shoulder to shoulder with him and couldnt get the results he did! Its the first time he's out fished me since I got him into the enticing hobby of fly fishing! Hes gotten pretty good! Im hoping to make it down there again sometime soon. (and encroach my will on the trout!) Oh...and Ill be needing some new waders. I didnt get the leak fixed like I had hoped. Ill just have to seal ALL the seams on them....but I think for now Ill just get a new pair!
-
Good to hear things went well DaddyO. Ill be down there tomorrow and hopefully they will still be hitting well. I think I fixed the waders..but tomorrow I guess ill know for sure! Ill be out there with my future brother in-law. Tied up a few flies I think may work, but Im really looking forward to throwing a white wooly or bead head at them!
-
Hope you did well today DaddyO! My uncle, who lives in Gore, went out today and said he did well fishing a red midge at the Watts area. Im hoping to get lucky tomorrow when I head down there(granted the rain doesnt entice them to start generating)
-
They tasted really good! No fishy taste at all! Caught 3 the first day and then caught my limit the second.

During Christmas break I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Wyoming and Montana and do a little fishing. We were lucky enough to catch the Browns during their spawning time and after following the advice from the local fly shop, we were rather productive on the second day out. Here are a few pictures of the fish I was able to get photos of (note: I was often by myself and didnt have any means of taking photos of all the fish I caught...not to mention it was really cold) All were caught on a yellow/red glowball pattern with a orange egg pattern sinker and a few split shots to get it to sink..they were hunkered down deep!

Generation Schedule?
On The Fly 6 replied to On The Fly 6's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
Yup, it wasn't what I was looking forward to..but it happened.I was in fact a Bass in high school choir, but after that day I felt much like a Soprano . Ill get them fixed and maybe head out this weekend, granted they aren't generating. I wont mind if its cold. -
Generation Schedule?
On The Fly 6 replied to On The Fly 6's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
I was indeed driving a black car. I thought your face looked familiar DaddyO, I just couldnt place it! Glad to hear that you had a productive day and non leaky waders! In the time I was there, my toes and nether regions became very cold so I decided to call it a day early...other wise I would have fished till sun down. Im hoping to be back out there soon and hopefully the waters still as clear as it was!
