  1. Palmer knot. (Not the palomar knot)
  2. Fish are food, not friends...
  3. Haven't yet, but I plan to this year.
  4. Assuming she hadn't spawned out, somewhere between 8 and 9 lbs, probably.
  5. I'm sure these will be killers on the baracuda... Or at least the largemouth bass.
  6. Wouldn't that make it more of a real "lake?"
  7. Those would be caddisflies. There's been a pretty good caddis hatch going on (on the warm days) for at least about a month and a half now on the Current. Glad you guys had a good trip.
  8. May be true, but I just spent 3 days on the Current and didn't catch a Brown under 10". Most were 11-15" Maybe I just don't know how to catch stockers, though.
  9. I was fishing the Current on Thursday, between Tan Vat & Baptist. I'm just going along, doing my thing, when all of a sudden, I hear this sound like a bomb dropping. Then I see something out of the corner of my eye and BOOM, something huge hits the water not 30 feet away from me. At first, I thought it must have been a falling rock or something, but I look up and there's nothing but blue skies directly overhead. I tried to look in the river where it hit, but I couldn't find anything. I don't know what it was, but it was big and it fell from a long way up...
  10. Well, I finally found the info from MDC that answered my question... But any additional info would be appreciated!
  11. I'm planning a trip for later this week. Want to spend the night and fish two days. Can you camp (just a tent, no RV or anything) along the North Fork, specifically at the Blair or Patrick access? If not, I'll be forced to drive to and from the NFS campground (about 15 miles) every day. Thanks for any info!
  12. Bluegills. You didn't mention bluegills. How is the bluegill population? Keep the crappie, make sure you have a healthy population of bluegills.
  13. Yeah, I have all the stuff for the "scheduled" generation. I was curious if there is a number for current generation, such as there is on the white river lakes? Doesn't seem like there is.
  14. I can't find a number for the current releases anywhere online. Is there one? Also, what's going on at the dam right now? According to this: http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/KEYS.lakepage.html and this: http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/webdata/g...O2.current.html they shut off the water yesterday evening. (It shows the release going to 0 cfs on the tabular data, the graph and the "current readings" section right on the front page.) Yet, the tailwater level never dropped, according to the tabular data. I'm guessing it's a malfunction in their recording equipment? I was thinking about coming over and fishing this afternoon, but I don't want to waste my time if they're still running 12000 cfs.
  15. Tan Vat is right off the road coming out of the park. You don't really have to turn "off" the road to get there. You can't miss it.
  16. As you can see from that video, we almost never actually "cast" to the carp. The idea is to see the fish feeding, and sneak up on them. You then simply drop a fly down in front of them. It sounds easy, but it's actually quite a challenge. Newbies might hook about 1/10th of the carp they see.
  17. For grass carp I tie up a few different flies. If they're hitting on cottonwoods, I'll either tie a fly with several puffs of white cdc, or I'll make a dubbing loop and dub on the webby parts from a white saddle hackle. If they're hitting on grass clippings (if you can find a pond that's been freshly mowed around the edges, you can often find the grass carp feeding on the clippings), I'll use a fly that's just a spun ball of green deer hair, unclipped. At other times, I'll just tie in an olive marabou and leave it very "stringy" on the hook.
  18. My brother's primary carp rod is a 6' 2 wt.
  19. I've been known to catch a carp or two on a fly... I prefer to wade fish, sighting and stalking feeding carp. I use a 7'6" 3 wt., though I'd use a shorter, lighter rod if I had one. The shorter rod allows you to more easily maneuver into tight places, as well as allowing you to quickly adjust if a fish starts to move (specifically, if a fish starts to move toward you). Here's a short video my friend Husky shot of my hooking a carp. That will give you a little better idea of how we do it. As far as flies go, we generally use algae imitations, though any small nymph will work. Olive wooly buggers in sizes 18-14 work great. Unfortunately, I don't know anywhere to go around KC, so I can't help you on that front. Good luck!
  20. They haven't put out tomorrow's schedule yet. Either on the internet or on the phone.
  21. While they don't always do it, a carp can strip a lot of line in a hurry. I've had a carp go from the end of my rod when I hooked him to on the backing in about as fast as you can say "fish on."
  22. Water temp: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?07164500
  23. Is it realistic to wade for stripers below TKD, during periods of no generation? Any help would be appreciated?
  24. That would change everything to $2.00. A lifetime license would be $2.00.
  25. I fished around Twin Bridges last night and again this morning. There are fish everywhere. I accidentally foul hooked 8 or 10 of them. But I couldn't get a single fish to actually take a fly. It didn't matter what I did, the fish just weren't interested. I guess they just had something else on their mind. Anyone else having the same experience?
