In light of recent wonderfully informative posts......I wanted to point out this wonderful tool we all have access to. If there is someone you find you disagree with alot and really dont care to read their posts.....try this exercise: 1. Step back from the computer and take a breath, have a ciggy, or get a warm cup of coffee. 2. Return to computer and reread what you were about to post and see if it was a personal attack or if it was ON TOPIC. 3. Edit post accordingly. 4. Click on user profile that you are having an issue with. 5. On the left hand side of their profile page, there is a pulldown menu titled OPTION. 6. Click on this and you will find revealed, the "Ignore User" option. (This enables all posts and pm's from a person to not be viewable by you) 7. Enable this tool and you will never have to see the "tools" posts......errr.....users posts that you seem to disagree with. During regular surfing of the board, you ahve the option of viewing their posts, but they are not shown without you approving the action. You can at any time undo this. Just thought I would point this out.

Mistakes will happen.......but to get a law passed, there are safe guards to rpevent this. If the reps were doing their job, it would have been caught. Negligence is a sueable offence in many other job positions.

Not sure about which that one is, but check out Outcast Pontoons, Dave Scadden Pontoons, Bucks Bags, or Water Skeeter. I have an Outcast 9' and absolutely love it.

It is worth looking into Dan. My big question is, all it takes to get a guide license is $25 when you buy you AGFC license. If there was a CG requirement, I would imagine they would require you to show the cert at purchase. Who has this law stated? Is this a Corp of Engineers, Dept of Conservation, or Coast Guard requirement? I know the AGFC/MDC can enforce Corp of Engineers laws, but I dont know about Coast Guard enforcement.
-
I would recommend contacting your reps and raising a stink. This is far from stupid.
-
It was my understanding the regs were stated by engine size and occupancy. I honestly cant think of any river guides who have the CG license.
-
Blue bird skies make it tough. Fish go deep. I jump to 7x and size 20-22 zerba midges. Very good looking cast as well.
-
Please define a Coast Guard license.

Low waters on the Beaver Tailwaters......I believe. There is a large boulder in front of that group of three rocks that is nice to fish.
-
I apologize for the delay. This is Tightlines Fly Fishers and I believe they are meeting at the Dam Ramp around 7am. I am not going to be able to make it, but just jump right in.

Our local fly fishing club is having an outting to Beaver on Sunday if you are interested in attending. Usually about ten guys show up and fish. I wont be able to go, but Ken(our president) will be there and would be more than happy to introduce you around. I think they are meeting about 7am. Feel free to pm me about the outting, or if you are local to NW Ark we would love to have you visit one of our club meetings. Good luck and tightlines.

I was standing on my front porch in Pea Ridge looking north last night Tim. Was quite a light show. About 9 or 10pm there was a huge mess of lightening, clouds and wind move through, but it seemed to stay north of the AR/MO line. We didnt get hit till early this morning.

I look forward to it. Still getting hammered with rain here in the NW corner of the state. Kings, Elk, and the Buffalo should be primed for floating and fishing this weekend. Weather looks awesome. If you are wondering about water, give a few of the outfitters a call and see what they say. Most of them are more than happy to give recommendations.

The others are right on low water right now. I posted this on another board for a fellow fly fisherman asking about fishing the Buffalo......forgive the length. I cut my teeth on the Buffalo, so it has a special place. I spent some of my childhood in the Boxley Valley. The Buffalo is a very good place to fish. Lots of easy access and plenty of outfitters to help with canoes and shuttles. Here in lies the issue though. It sees a TON of traffic. This can make fishing a little difficult. The upper section is very rain dependent, so you have to kinda plan for it. The middle section can still have alot of walking, but it tends to have more deeper holes. These are where I tend to find the fish in hot conditions. The other nice thing is all of the over hanging trees. Fish are not able to blink, so they tend to lurk in the shade when the sun is high. The lower section is almost always a good bet for a float, but has lots of long, open pools. This means less public traffic, but more paddling. You also have the lower wilderness area which I love to do as an overnighter. There are very few places any more to go where you can hear no sounds of civilization. You can also float to the confluence of the White and the Buffalo and then head back up the White. Watch the generation though because this can be a deal breaker. As far as specfic stretches, pick your poison. Ponca to Steel Creek or Kyles is an awesome stretch. Lots of rapids and shady banks. Good terrestrial fishing in the summer. Seems more goggle eye and rock bass in this section since there is fewer deeper holes. Kyles to Erbie is good for smallies, but the Kyles road can be very rough. You also have some great hiking when you get to Erbie. Floating into Pruitt or out of Pruitt is alright, but it sees alot of traffic. It tends to have a good bikini hatch though. Mt. Hershey to Woolum or Woolum on down is very good for smallie. A few more wide open spots and lots of gravel bars. Richland Creek comes in near Woolum and there is some great fishing up there. Harder to access, but worth the effort. Either of the Maumee accesses to Dillards Ferry is one of my favorites. It has a few more rapids than most of the middle section. It also has Spring creek dump into it a few miles before Dillards, and this makes for very good fishing. Loks of big rocks in the water. Rush into Buffalo City really needs to be a few days, and can be a getting back to nature float. Very little boat traffic and outside influence. It is also much harder to get rescued if something goes wrong. I would recommend making this trip with a few people. Ken Smith has a book out called "The Buffalo River Handbook". It is the Bible when it comes to the Buffalo. I hae a boat copy and one at home. One of the more comprehensive books out there for the paddler and the historian. Also pick up "Fly Fisher's Guide to Arkansas and Missouri". This is a great break down of all the waters around us with info more toward the fly fisherman. Great for access points and fly suggestions. Speaking of flies...... I am a firm believer in the clouser minnow on warm water. Check out what color the baitfish are and match(who says match the hatch is just for trout). Cray fish are always good patterns either weighted and bounced along the bottom or dead drfited under an indicator. Large stonefly patterns are good under an indicator or tightlined as well. Terrestrials of every shape and size are a main stay. Find a tree or grass lined ank and let em fly. I am very partial to a yellow parahopper. Black or dark red wollie boogers tend to mimic tadpoles, leeches, sculpins, etc. Don't be afraid to experiment. Just because it is labeled a "trout, saltwater, etc" fly, doesnt mean teh colors cant be changed to work for warm water. Hope my novelette helps a tad. There is no shortage of warm water to fish here. Basically if it holds water for most of the summer.....it will hold fish. I sneak out from time to time and hike some of the local creeks fishing for panfish with dries and my 3wt. I absolutely have a blast with those little buggers.

Reel is sold.

They are not. All waters have reached conservation pool, so 24/7 generation is done. Looks like for the most part they are turning on the water between noon and 2pm. Morning fishing has been good until the fog lifts. It seems the fish gorged during the higher waters, so they are taking flies and lures very lightly.

How about putting together an OA/Outfitters cleanup float? There are enough guys on the board that float, as well as you, Red, and a few others. We could really do some good. Just a thought. Hell we could plan it a few months out so everyone could plan on it.

I had a couple down from KC last Sunday. Neither had fished on a river much and were looking froward to getting into some smallies. Water read 2.5 when I got up sunday morning so I wasnt sure what we were going to do. The outfitters stop launching at around 3.0. Talked with Mike at Riverside Resort and we decided to do the Hwy62 to Grandview float. This is about a 6mi stretch of water. I knew we would be walking a good bit, and I opted just to walk alongside the canoe to minimize weight. This tunred out to be a great way to teach. Hooked up with quite a few smallies, panfish, one white bass, and a few largemouth. No one else was on the water and the overcast sky made fishing very comfortable. Some very good depper holes and washouts where the fish were holding. Got a decent sunburn and legs are sore, but all in all it was a very productive day. They are hooked on river fishing now and were ready to plan their next trip down.

Russ and Jean-Ann are top notch....not doubt. You should have seen the boats from our early spring cleanup trip.

These people have had plenty of opportunities to offer up their ideas and concerns in a public forum. It seems now they have decided they want to throw a wrench in the process of getting a larger CR area. It irritates me when people circumvent the process just to help themselves. http://www.ktlo.com/wireready/news/01359_n...ange_083724.php At Tuesday night's Norfork city council workshop session, over 50 local business owners and residents crowded the city hall to urge council members to support a resolution opposing the proposed expansion of the catch and release area on the North Fork River by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The council members were unanimous in their support of the resolution presented by council member Lisa Harrison who with her husband Mike own a trout fishing dock and resort at the confluence of the North Fork and White Rivers. Their concern and that of the overwhelming majority of those in attendance at last night's meeting is the severe economic impact on the community if the catch and release area on the North Fork River is expanded. Mike Harrison says Norfork business owners and business owners along the rivers who depend on the tourist fishermen are united in their opposition to the proposal by the state Game and Fish Commission. He said, we just survive in the winter but it is in the spring and summer when the fisherman come that we make our money. If they are not allowed to keep the fish they catch on the North Fork, they will stop coming and will go elsewhere to fish. Council member Nina Brewer said she recently spent two days visiting campgrounds along the North Fork River talking to fishermen from across the country. She reported that the majority of those she spoke to said if the catch and release area is expanded they will stop coming. Council member Camille Voelz urged those in attendance to contact their state representatives and Governor Mike Beebe, who appoints the members of the Game and Fish Commission, and share their concerns of what the proposed expansion will do to the community. Mike Harrison said he and other business owners have hired a lawyer to represent them in Little Rock at the August 20th meeting of the Game and Fish Commission when the proposal will be up for consideration.
