Looking For A Crappie Crankbait Expert
Stockton Lake Guide Service replied to rlcarter's topic in Stockton Lake
I just talked to Rusty on the phone. He is headed out there on saturday morning, so we can all see if our advice pays off for him. still lots of fish suspended, but some seem to be moving to the brush piles. either way, trolling should get him some fish!! -
Didn't get the fishing report posted yesterday, but here it is: lake temp is 78 and the lake is about normal finally. The thermocline is about 28 foot down. Walleye are very tough, but a few are being caught on main lake points on jigs and crawlers anyplace from 14 foot early to 25 foot later in the day. They are moving to the summer patterns and it's been a pretty tuff bite the past week. Crappie are still hitting crankbaits 10 foot deep in 25 foot of water trolled about 1.5 mph. There are also a good number of fish moving to the brush piles in 18 to 25 foot of water. either way you should get some fish for the 4th of july picnic. Bass are excellent on large worms in deep brush piles lakewide. If you can locate the right brush pile, you can catch a large bass. Been a great 2 weeks of bass fishing!! If they don't hit the large worm, large jigs have been the second bait of choice, along with downisizing the worm. Catfish are moving onto the flats after the spawn. Fresh shad drifted in 10 to 20 foot of water will catch a good number of catfish. It's going to be a busy weekend of skiers, tubers, and jetskis. watch for the orange flags and be careful. We have had enough of our share of drownings over the last 2 years! Have a great 4th of july weekend.

well the crappie bite is the bite to talk about first. they are suspended in 30 foot of water, and hitting a 300 series bandit trolled about 14 foot down. color doesn't seem to matter much, been throwing the mad cow a lot, so that seems to be working. had 3 over 13" and several over 12" monday morning. lots of fun for the people catching them, and Jenny caught the biggest fish (see the attached pic) Didn't find the crappie until a little late in the day, which cut into the catch, but we ended up with 17 nice slabs. walleye are either on points or mud flats. try fishing in the shadows with 1/4 oz jig head and a half a crawler. fish 15 to 25 foot deep and several don't bite, just weight. so don't be shy!! Bass fishing has been awesome if you know what you are doing. they are deep, aobut 20 foot, hitting big big worms, and catching some lunker fish. sometime more than 1 in a day, sometimes not. I had a guy out last week and he ended up in the top 10 of the tournament saturday..Big fish were not there for him come game day. Catfish are about done spawning and will be on flats. use fresh shad and drift fish for them on flats and points. Hope this helps you catch fish. we had another drowning on the lake saturday, so please be careful, keep them lifejackets ready, and leave the drinks at home if you are the one driving the boat, or just want to stay safe.

hope you still doing ok Gil. hopefully the rivers will stay out of the houses from here on out. Got some family up in north mo that are in the same situation. Good luck and stay safe

Stockton Lake Guide Service replied to 9LB's topic in Stockton Lake
go to fishing, then on the right there is a link to go to the spots, on top of the next page it says gps coordinates, click on them and you can download the entire state. -
read our reports from the past mfonth. they are suspendee. you can get them on crankbaits or slow druig jigs in 14 foot of water

I am by no way trying to be difficult here and I congrat you on the walleye catch!! they are biting awesome!! But I to used the word culling in a report last year, shorter than saying catch and release. Someone turned me in for culling (when we were really catching and releasing) Just in case you didn't know, the act of actually culling fish (except for a bonafide bass tournament) is illegal. once a fish goes into the livewell, it counts toward your daily limit. It is probably hard to really get caught doing this, but if someone sees you looking at the fish and letting the smaller ones go, then you can get a ticket for it. Please don't take this as I am trying to be a jerk, I don't think most people even know that it is illegal, but it is in the rule book!! Once you got your limit, you can keep fishing, but you must release your catch, not what is in your live well. Guess now I sit back and see if people start dogging me for writing this, LOL. But really just don't want someone to get in trouble for doing something they didn't know was wrong.

Uncle Josh, it would be far best for you to spend lots of your money to hire me to take you out and I would show you where all the fish are located, LOL. But just in case you don't want to do that, sons creek is a good area. The keeper bass have been on points hitting jigs, in the MDC brush piles on big worms, and some are in the backs of the cuts in the brush, however this is ending pretty fast with the dropping water. If you want to give me a call before you come up here, I would love to help you out a little with some spots (and I wouldnt charge you for that unless you are just crazy about giving me your money) If you haven't been here much, its one if not the best bass lake in the state. Lots of really big bass, and lots of little bass too. You usually are catching enough to keep you interested, but as always, getting the big ones seem to be a little harder than the little ones. Seriously, give me a call on your way and I will do my best to help you out a little bit!!

Stockton Lake Fishing Report
Stockton Lake Guide Service replied to Stockton Lake Guide Service's topic in Stockton Lake
had another trip this morning, had a limit of nice walleye by 730 am. they were biting great. move up shallow in the morning, and move out as the day goes on. -
lake temp was 69 and water clarity looks good Bass are hitting jigs and spinnerbaits fromt he middle of the coves to the backs. Most of the bigger fish are coming out of the flooded brush, however I have got some keeper fish out of the brush piles while crappie fishing. Crappie are still scattered and are hitting crankbaits trolled in 20 to 30 foot of water about 12-15 foot deep. Catching some really good fish doing this, and only a few small fish. Most of them are 11" plus! Walleye are still along the main lake and secondary points and are hitting crawlers, jigs, and some crankbaits. stay in about 20 foot of water and work your lure from the points to the inside of the points. Use the electronics to locate fish. they move some during the day so make sure you vary the depth and stay on the fish. There have also been some good walleye coming out of the brush in the mornings, but they are tuff to catch and not get hung up. Got to get to the lake. Sorry about the short report, but feel free to give me a call if you got any questions.

would love to fish with you some day, but the only rule is that if you out fish me you can't come back. I know, that is pretty bad for a guide, but you got to have rules!!!

Water temp dropped back to about 62. Water level was still about 5.5 foot high, and the water clarity was just about perfect. If you want to catch crappie they can be found from the shallows to 30 foot of water. If you fish the deep fish, locate them on your graph, and then either vertical fish them or cast and slow roll the jig back through the school of crappie. The wind blew us off of our fish today, but we had some really big fish suspended about 15 foot down in 30 foot of water on minnows. Couldn't get them to hit a jig, which really drives me crazy. there are still some crappie in the shallows, but these fish seem to be a little smaller. Walleye are hitting jigs and crawlers in 20 foot of water on main lake points. they didn't hit as good today for us, but they are there.. We had one fish that went about 3 lbs. Bass are hitting texas rigged lizards and jigs in the brush out to about 8 foot of water. had several fish that were 14+ and 3 keepers yesterday on a trip. They were prefishing a tournament so we didn't hang out after catching the keepers. Also hitting black and blue jigs up the sac river past greenfield access. Catfish will be heading to the creeks to feed. use shrimp and night crawlers and if the water is running in, you should catch some fish. Been sick for a week now, and had to fish everyday...Can't complain though, it could be a lot worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to everyone and give me a call if you need any help!!

lake temp was back into the low 60's around twin bridges this evening. I didn't get on the lake until about 5, had some people that were actually slower than me... The water coming out of the sac at son's creek is still pretty stained. visability up around birch is only 6-8 inches, but the crappie bite was going good up there for a while this afternoon. Same in sons creek, but lots of crappie are being caught suspended in 15 foot of water, like other walleye fisherman today, we picked some up on night crawlers. You will have to put in some work, but the crappie are being caught in the sons creek arm anyplace from the shallows down to 20 foot of water. the fish out deeper were mostly males today, but we had some nice fish for the short time we were out. Walleye are biting great. Lots of smaller fish, but also lots of 16" walleye. We had 3 keepers this evening in the first hour on jigs and crawlers in 18 foot of water. they haven't really hit the points hard yet, so try fishing the inside of the points. towards the backs of the coves, might get you some bigger fish. I think everything we caught this evening on points were shorts. 1/8 to 1/4 oz jigs and you can tip them with a crawler, or just fish a jig, both seem to be working. Bass are hitting the bushes, so flip them jigs and spinnerbaits along the flooded brush on secondary points to the backs of the creeks and coves. i haven't had any huge females, and some of them up the rivers seem to have spawned out already. The main lake fish still have a little time left. The catfish were going nuts in the backs of the creeks where the water was coming in. If you like to catfish, wait until the rain stops, then go all the way to the back of the creeks, put on a night crawler, and hang on. The best places to go are some of the smaller creeks that flow into the lake, like way back in mutton, greaser, googer, something like that and get back where the water is visabily moving. It won't be very wide, and maybe only 5 or 6 foot deep, but that will cover up a pretty big catfish. This bite almost always works after a good rain, and we look to have more moving in this weekend.

Walleye Bite Is On!
Stockton Lake Guide Service replied to Stockton Lake Guide Service's topic in Stockton Lake
Thanks for the note Fred. If you ever need any info or would like to take a guide, feel free to give me a call. I know times are hard, so if all you can afford is free information, I can give you some of that to... If I had to pick something from the north end, hit points around state park, the long tapering points off of maize and and locate some humps and flats they will hold walleye. Feel free to give me a call anytime. -

It's been a long day and got to be up in 4 hours, but gonna do a really quick report lake is high, and getting higher. water temp has dropped to 56, but main lake color is perfect. rivers are muddy walleye are awesome on crappie jigs with crawlers in 12-20 foot of water on steeper banks and points. we had 11 keepers in 2 hours today, well yesterday now. crappie are on the old bank and are hitting jigs and minnows. bite has slowed but they are still hitting. Got to love this lake!!!!
