  1. Thanks BM, I fished it once at 150cfs, tough wading, off color water, streamers. The browns came out of places you would not think. Gotta alot of turns and short chases, not much hook ups. I also have noticed the Current drops quickly.
  2. Check the Current River part of the forum. Fishing downstream from Parker's has some good holding water, then it thins out, with fairly obvious stretches. But, the fish should be moving to different locations. My fishing bud always goes upstream from Tan Vat and does well. I've never fished from Cedar upstream. Any help Gavin?
  3. Any estimations on how the rain will affect the Current? We're getting drenched beginning tonight.
  4. Any Fall caddis action, or just tricos?
  5. I hear you. I fished probably the same stretches you did a few weeks ago and got 1 12" brown. Two spin fisherman came up to me at the Tan Vat riffle and one threw in a small crankbait, sticking a nice 16" brown about 10 ft. above me. Hey said, "I've been doing this all day." Nothing against spin fishermen, more power to him, but I couldn't get anything on that day.
  6. I'll second the Fly Stop out of PA--price, selection.
  7. Good inquiries. Tito and Brian S. would be the experts, along with some others. I'm also heading down on 16-17. Just my two cents for fly choice: crayfish/crawdad patterns, see the other posts. Also, big, weighted stonefly nymphs.
  8. My fishing bud caught a 16", fat brown, #16 or #18 red tungsten midge on Sunday. He said that white midges also worked. Nothing real big yet, unless they're wary. Water was up a little and slightly off-color, good conditions.
  9. Thanks for the advice. I concur with your points, esp. the off-color water. I've also had better luck later in the day, or early, though not as much. Your point also made sense when I think to my lake fishing days back in WA with a spin rod and water bubble way out in the lake with my special fly under it. I had to set high and hard. Gotta get the strip set down.
  10. Nice tie, barbells, swiss straw to the materials list...size #8, or #10?
  11. Second that--just the recipe please, Apparition of Piscatorial Prowess? (A pic would be nice.)
  12. Sounds good to me. My fishing time has also been limited, but the Current is a great stream in Sept/Oct, even into November. Did you use any streamers on the Current? I've been experimenting on size, style and color and haven't really found a solution. A lot of guys have told me that it's not a 'streamer river' meaning the trout go more for midges, nymphs, soft hackles etc., and of course tricos and caddis when the activity is on. I've had a lot of fast turns/follows and a few hits. I've lost a few 16"-18" browns on various streamers. I've also caught my largest brown on the Current with a streamer. Guess I'm sprung on this technique because of the visible strikes/turns/follows, and, a few hook ups. Another guy told me I should work on the strip-strike to set the hook.
  13. Props Tito! My fishing bud and I and familias are heading to Greer Springs and your home stream around Oct. 15-16. Never been to the 11 Point, and now I really want to fish it. Excellent report.
  14. Great job. I wish I could get back to the Current. The river was very low and clear a few weeks ago. Itching to get back.
  15. Hmmm, (thinking of all the green shades of dubbing, firing up the coffee grinder/dubbing blender)...
  16. Green Psycho Prince I presume?
  17. The river being off color is great. Were you fishing the rubber leg as an anchor fly with a nymph above? Olive mohair, hmmm...(to the fly tying table again).
  18. Did you get the fish with the famous Slacker Prince, or a rubber leg w. dropper? I'll have to re-visit your video on the first. I've tied your rubber leg stonefly nymphs and have taken a few fish on the Current, including a smallmouth a few weeks ago.
  19. Thanks Gavin and Brian. Only fished above and below the Falls when we camped there over a year ago. How's the river looking? Down? I'm up for the hiking. The payoff potential is high...
  20. How's the wade flyfishing around the islands at Patrick this time of year? Canoe armada is slowing down. Also, can you access the river at ROLF for free? or do you have to be camping? Thanks.
  21. I agree. I've see alot of fire spots on the gravel backs, some trash. Wonder what's going on there? Night fishing with bait/partying? Picked up some line and bait hooks to dispose of.
  22. Fished Sat-Sun, Aug.15-16, did pretty well on Sunday below Tan Vat, two nymphs under the indicator. Caught a hefty brown in a deep run. It was a little cloudy that morning which helped.
  23. Posted pics and a report on the Other Regions, West Region part of the forum. Kinda late, job...you know. To the Current on Fri/Sat for the first time since third week of June.
  24. Sorry for the late post. Started my new job at Ft. Leonard Wood and I am kinda tired every night after commuting. Went back to my home state of WA. Fished on the Yakima River and caught my first cutthroat, a 12". I found a nice piece of slack water on the edge of the main flow (river was high). Drifted big stone fly nymphs w. a smaller dropper and caught quite a few smaller rainbows--8-10 in. The bigger ones are in bigger slack pools and fished by drifting. I could only drive and wade, tiring. Next day I fished below the Roza Dam, one of four irrigation diversions on the Yakima hoping to nab a small mouth or white fish w. some articulated streamers. Scared a BIG white fish (28" 30"?) after stepping into a hole that I stripped flies through several times. Scared the waders off me almost. Continued to slap runs and strip. Finally nailed another white fish who pushed 20" with Fathead Minnow (KG) that I tied. A lot of guys fish for these in the late fall and the bald eagles like to feed on them. He fought and fought and ran downstream on me. Also fished up in the mountains on the upper Klickitat River on my reservation, nothing big, a lot of smallish wild 'bows. Beautiful country up there that I miss a lot. Didn't get a chance to fish on the lakes I used to fish on.
  25. Thanks Brian. I've had some luck with your rubber legs stone fly nymphs in various colors. Only fished the N. Fork once last July. Looking forward to hitting it again. My fishing bud nailed two big 'bows at the Falls in consecutive mornings. Thanks again.
