  1. thanks all for your help;went from bad in July with Susie's 2nd bout with breast cancer and then losing Brett in September.Susie keeps busy teaching school and getting in some fly-fishing.Don't know how she does it.Lot of folk's on the trout streams know her as well as in of the park regulars. She's a little blonde lady who turns into the terminator when she gets her fly rod going.
  2. In the heydays of state park and Taney rainbow trout fishing;SPORTS AFIELD named BSState Park and LAKE TANEYCOMO the best places to land a trophy rainbow in the continental USA.That figure was based on returns of their annual awards programs for best in state awards.Found a tag from RRState park from a trip in October of 2002 with my son's lady friend at the time that was numbered 149858.We were there in August of this year and my tag was only 51901;With tag sales that low don't know what is needed to revive our sport. On a side note any suggestions on help trying to get a bench at one of the trout parks in memory of our son,Brett, who passed away last September 10.I have filled out the necessary forms and contacted the park Supt. twice but haven't had much success
  3. Whatever happened to the idea of stocking 100 small brown trout a month in the zone 1 area of BSState park?We fished the park the weekend of 09/10 and didn't see any evidence of this occuring anymore. In fact, we didn't see many big fish at all.Always like to see several lunkers just for the challenge of catching and releasing them.We stayed a Sand Springs and they said it has been a slower year;part of it is the economy and some of it might be the abscence of trophy fish.Years ago the folks at Roaring decided that big fish took up too much space in the rearing pools.By the next year the same people were saying they wouldn't make that mistake again.Big fish bring in the people. We still caught a lot of fish and had a great time but like Laker67 I sometimes need the fix a big fish provides.
  4. 10pointer;yes we have met and if you get on the Wisconsin DNR website you can also check on the Pike River;it's real small but dumps into the big lake and can hold some real nice fish.Lost a big brown in the low 20's the last time we went.Wind can be a major factor there. see you on the h2o
  5. Have been to Racine off and on since 1996.The Root River is so narrow that a 10' rod might be a little too much rod. We've used 9' rods in 7-9 wts. for years and caught lots of salmon, browns, steelhead and coho's.We were fishing the Milwaukee River at Eastabrook Park when we found out that Laker67 had caught the state record brown. He and I had talked about him coming to Racine that year;glad he stayed home. Could use a 10' rod on the Milwaukee as it is normally bigger water.
  6. Al,old Dale Hulsey and Frank Jones were probably cheering you on from Heaven.
  7. First time responding but I read the reports and comments several times a week.Have fished the Current and Montauk since 1969.Summer of 1995 started finding lot,s of big browns in the lower end of the Park especially when the summer weather turned hot for several weeks and water levels were lower.Best year was '95 when I caught 14 browns over 3#'s the largest being 8#.Wife Susie had a big male in the 11# range that broke her off after a 10 minute battle. Most of the fish were caught on a red fox squirrel nymph.Have caught quite a few since that summer but have only kept a few browns.Fished with Al Agnew when we were kids growing up in Desloge and fish with Rick Osborn when we can get our schedules and water in line.
