  1. Nope, you won't mess things up for us. We will be down the following weekend. Where is Stinkin Pond gravel bar? Just to let you know, I don't know many of the landmark names along the river. The only one's I know are the Little Hurricane and Mary Decker Shoals.
  2. Thanks for the input. I am not very familiar with the river. Where is the Mary Decker Shoal and can you describe it? Here's a map I found. If you could try and point it out, that would be great.
  3. Hello all. My 15 year old son and I will be floating the 11 Point in late October and plan to do a lot of fly fishing for trout along the way. Could someone answer the following for me? Thanks in advance. 1) What is the best stretch to fly fish for trout? We want to start at Greer and float no further than Whitten access. 2) Does the Blue Ribbon area offer the best opportunity to catch trout? (not looking for the biggest trout, just want to get the most fish we can on the line) 3) Where are the best campsites along the route? 4) What are the best flies? 5) What are the best lures if we decide to go for small mouth. 6) What is the weather like in late October down there? Hi/Lo temps? Thanks again. Any other advice would be very welcomed.

  5. I am going to be down on Taneycomo tonight and tomorrow. I am thinking about fishing when the generators are off tonight or early tomorrow morning so I can get out and wade fish. What special equipment do I need, what flies and/or crank bait work best at night, anything to be especially cautious about, etc?
  6. I'm a newb to this site and have subscribed to the Eleven Point and Upper Taneycomo forums, but I am not receiving notification of posts emails. I am also not receiving email replies to my posts. What am i doing wrong?
  7. Had a great time on our float on the 11P last week. We went from 19 to Riverton. The river was beautiful and the weather was excellent as well. Heck, Monday it got to 60 degrees, not bad for the last week in December. We camped two nights at Little Hurricane and then at Greenbriar (?). I didn't have much time to fish, but did spend a couple of hours just below Little Hurricane between the first and second rapids. They were really going after the white bugs landing on the water. Unfortunately I didn't have any dry flies. Per a lot of people's advice on this forum, I only brought along crawdads and heavy wooly buggers, which sank fast. The fish would just not take them, they were all up at the surface. I did however have some nymphs that did not sink quickly. I used the lightest color I had (tan). I used two of the same flies and dropped one off of the other. Pretty much if the fish didn't hit it when the flies hit the water, I pulled it back and cast it again. I only caught two rainbows, but was able to hook into an 18 inch male. This was only the second time out fly fishing for me, so when the 18 incher got on, I wanted to give him as much line as he wanted. It took me over 10 minutes to tire him out enough to reel him in. I couldn't stop shaking for an hour afterwards. It was so incredibly fun!!! I know some of you may disapprove, but I kept it and filleted him for dinner. It had a lot of meat and the four of us had enough to get a good taste. From now on though, I will catch and release. I just couldn't resist. Here is the picture of the fish.
  8. Thanks for the reply. We would have loved to have had you along. The more the merrier. I hope you're right about the river. We made this same trip two years ago, the day after Thanksgiving. The first three days were beautiful, then the last night there was a huge rain storm with hail and heavy rains all night long, from 100:00 pm until about 5:00 am. There was even a tornado spotted between us and West Plains. We woke up at about 7:00 am the next morning to find the river flooded and the water level rose by close to 7' or 8'. The width of the river when we first set up camp was maybe 15 yards wide. That morning it was about 100 yards wide with fallen trees and debris rushing by. We stuck a stick into the ground right at the waters edge and began breaking down the camp. We finished in about a half hour. When we went back to the stick, the water was up about 8". We were in trouble. This was the last day and we had to make it back to the pull-out point at Riverton to go home. If we didn't get home that day, the wives would have been in a panic and would have called out the National Guard to look for us, so we had to go. Let me tell you, that was the most scared I had been in a long time. The water was probably going 15+ MPH when normally it would have been 5 or 6 MPH max. We traveled 13 miles in about 45 minutes. WOW! We were so stressed that we had to stop at Boze Mill to rest for a while before we finally made it to Riverton. When we got to Riverton, we put another stick in the ground at the edge of the river and loaded everything into the truck, after a half hour we went back to check it and it had risen another 8"! I can't believe we did it. This time at least we will have a choice on whether to put in Sunday at Hwy 19 or camp that night and see what the river is like on Monday.
  9. We were planning on a 4 day float on the Eleven Point tomorrow, Saturday 12/27, but looking at the forecast, there is a Flash Flood Watch and it's calling for 1 - 3" of rain tonight and tomorrow. We decided we are going to push back the trip by a day and get down there on Sunday morning the 28th. It's supposed to be beautiful Sunday through Wednesday with sunny skies, highs in the mid to upper forties and lows down to 25 with no rain. With all of this rain expected to end Saturday late afternoon, I would think the river would be flooded. What do you think the river will be like midday on Sunday? Floatable? If it is still flooded on Sunday, is there camping at the highway 19 access area in case we need to wait until Monday morning to begin floating? Also, since I am new to fly fishing, what is the best way and place on the Eleven Point to fish during high water? What type of fly would you use and how deep do you think the fish will be? Thanks.
  10. Found your forum. What a great resource. Learned a lot already. I am planning a 3 night float trip beginning December 27th and we want to do some fly fishing for trout. We are putting in up at Hwy 19 and floating to Riverton. I would really appreciate it if some of you would respond with what the river conditions are usually like during that time of year, where are the best spots to fish for trout, what my fishing setups should be including flies, depth of fish, etc. How do the trout bite this time of year? Are there any good detailed maps out there with specific trout spots or at least a detailed map that has spring, creeks, river inlets? Thanks in advance for your help.
