  1. If someone gets some and doesnt want them, I would love to have them. How big are they anyway. Want to try some recipes. Maybe I will try and catch one? Not sure who what when and where to do it tho...just moved here. k
  2. The Springfield paper had a good article about the floods in it sunday. Very interesting read and it reminded me WHY the dam was built. Flood control and the power generation was a second added benefit. Thank God for what we have of that as it helps reduce our need for coal and oil power plants. Wish we had a thousand more dams like Table Rock, or a million. It destroyed a lot of land and that was a bad thing for some, but the benefits outweigh the negatives. Its like the wind generation story. There is lots of ppl against it out in Kansas saying its ugly or whatever, but anything to reduce our dependence on foreign oil is a godsend. Our comfort or our fishing is not worth the life of one soldier in the middle east. WE are in a bind for electricity with our current use. Look at the schools and cities and how they have increased their use. Air conditioning, gyms open long hours, computers, and on and on. Our own use is phenomenal. So many appliances now. Back to the topic, the paper explained the Mississippi compact and how that affects us here even. And that the Corps has to balance all their actions against that and need for electricity. Fishing is just a byproduct for sure. None of us want to go without electricity when we are home so its just part of the deal. I wait and wait to fish down there myself. Been high all spring. The paper also said we are set up for a repeat of last year. I hope not. But one big rain of 5 inches would send the lake to full again or over full maybe. Ground is soaked up currently and so a lot more runs off. Boating Taney is more and more the norm, I guess if you want to catch a trout. Trolling rapalas the other day, a guy limited his whole boat out pretty fast.
  3. Thanks, I know they are there. Just not fished for hard. What a pretty fish to catch etc. and if you are eating them, good too. Will let you know what i find this summer.
  4. Does anyone eat the paddlefish eggs? I have never kept one so have no idea what to expect? I love other fish eggs and would love to try them. If you get some, freeze em and let me know
  5. Thanks...anyone fish for them vertically out on the main lake with live perch or shad? That is so good in Oklahoma and texas, kansas etc. And if you catch one, you will wonder why you fished for bass...hah..Great fish. hard fighting and beautiful color. Open water fishing is hard until you have someone teach you how. My friend limits on walley every day of the year that he is out.
  6. Main lake, deep water humps and rock piles, fish vertical with jigs and spoons. Its definitly a skill. THey are there. Just have to fish FOR them
  7. Does anyone targe Blue Channel Cats on Table Rock. And if so, give me some insight on where and when and with what you fish with. etc.
  8. THere is a Mako center console at Springfield Bass Pro. But not having seen them in the water, I have no idea how high out of the water I will be standing and fishing compared to a bass boat. I know some higher, etc. That can be good tho as you can see to case and see the cover way out. Of course the fish can see you farther too. Any comments are apprec. I have to make a ONE SHOT decision for the next 20 years on this. Cannot make a mistake
  9. I really appreciate the input. ANY other mako or kenner owners out there? I can get a Z-7 for the same price. It just seems the older I get, the more I like the stand up or easy drivers seating on the Mako, etc. Crawling in and out from behind the wheels on bass boats not that easy. Not much leg room. So wondering. This boat will be the one to take me to the end I spose as I make em last for 20 years of more. So wanting to make a good choice, etc. Will NOT take it above fall creek ever. I can wade and fly fish up there and enjoy that more anyway. Prob going to be down lower looking for hidey holes and big drop offs in lower taney. Convinced there has to be some big fish down there. Thank you all. Going to need some partners once I get the boat. Anyone interested. NOW also how bout Horsepower. With a 21 foot mako, they weigh 2200 pounds. Come wiht 150 two stroke. Will a 115 4 stroke be enough for this boat. Think I want to get away from the two stroke. INPUT ON TWO VERSUS FOUR STROKE>> thank you guys
  10. LET me qualify this. Center Console as in Mako or Kenner. Open floor, stand up driving, no carpet, rod holders around console. Used for stripers up to now inland and for offshore fishing etc. They are great on big water so wondering if that is a needed option on Table Rock due to traffic? k
  11. BIG lure, BIG fish.....
  12. I am considering a center console boat. Has anyone on here fished out of one lately. They make some flats boats that draw very little water and set up for trolling motors and front decks, etc. Like the mako brand. Also, please describe upper taney for me. Where does the deeper water end generally on low flows where a larger boat cannot go up any more. I see ppl upstream in flat bottom boats and jets on a 705 lake elevation etc. Just line me out with what you think and know. Mainly, I want to fish fall creek to powersite and will wade flyfish the upper end. Then will be on Table Rock too. So wanted the deeper boat, etc. Please tell me also about boat traffice on TableRock in season. I have heard lots of horror stories and want to be prepared? k
  13. I KNOW they generate to sell electricity, but it seems that being cold outside there would not be as much demand. It has to be deeper than that. Must have to do with coal plants and natural gas plants etc. I would almost bet some of those are down for maintenance. Summers are a given. High demand for air conditioning and tourism, etc. Was looking for maybe a real reason. Cannot imagine running water thru the turbines and not selling it. That is too much wear and tear. But maybe they can run it thru the headgate and not spin the rotors? I saw Beaver had two open for awhile so maybe its in response to that? Interesting at least.
  14. There are a lot of factors that impact water flows. One of the biggest is development. More and more wells being drilled and water pumped out of the aquifers cause the water levels to drop significantly. There is a limited supply and upstream interdiction by towns and cities cause water to drop downstream. Another huge factor is the farming practices. As farmers put in small dams and terraced the land with govt money, the runoff does not get to the headwaters of the springs. CRP grass and other conservation areas also catch more water before it has a chance to run downstream. I would bet if you looked up stream from those big springs, you would find small dams on every gulley and farm land terraced, etc. Look on Google Earth and trace up the valleys and see what it looks like. The western states are seeing this impact really big and the lakes are drying up. One lake I used to fish had a 90% reduction in runoff over 40 yrs with the same rainfalls. So upstream, terracing and farming practice along with flood control dams hold the water up above the lake. We have basically paid ppl to shut off the water supply. Good and bad. Less flooding, less erosion but less water in the streams.
  15. Does anyone know why they generate? Is there a reason like colder outside so need more electricity for heat? Or coal plants not running or ?? I would think there is a pattern here that could at least have some reasoning to it. Also, when they say 4 units on the call in line, is that 4 full as I went down there and there were wadeable sections at the time. The bank was wet way up high so I could see they did run a lot of water early. What flies are good now?
