  1. I was there last monday just showing some friends a good time. I knew it was gonna be tough with the corps not generating much. Caught alot of crappie (not many keepers) and only a few white bass (3). The water is pretty low still. Not much has changed for 2 weeks now. Although it seemed like alot of action, it almost seemed as if we were catch the same fish every time. Not worth the trip if you're going for hybrids I presume. Every fisherman has their own likings but I've usually had success when the gage is between the 28-30 numbers.
  2. SMJ - are you talking about that bridge where the James begins to turn? are you wading all the way down from the dam or is there some kind of closer parking to it?
  3. Where are you guys fishing below the dam? Its always packed I noticed. Are you wading? I've caught nice fish above the dam but if there are monsters down below, I would like to catch them.
  4. springfield lake is not too bad. i just go there to kill time. i've caught many nice bass there. its a little crowded but most people dont know how to fish the lake. most than 90% of the people there are just putting a worm or something on a hook and waiting. i usually just go there just to test out my new lures.
  5. ^ Its highly unlikely that you will find a muskie in Fellows. The only ones I've seen or heard of pulled out from Fellows, which was only 3, were all caught by accident while fishing for white bass or largemouths. Fellows seems to be pretty dead everytime I hit it up.
  6. Water is LOW! If you want small crappies and small white bass, now is the time to go. Lots of cat fishermen on the westside of the dam. The bite doesnt pick up til late evening. If you're going for crappie, you can basically toss any small jig and get one.
  7. Yes, thats what they are talking about. It confused the heck out of me when I saw someone pull out a bluegill and called it a perch.
  8. any hybrids yet ozarkgunner?
  9. nice report slider! hope to head that way soon.
  10. It was tough fishing yesterday after those gates closed. The crappie were biting well but there was ALOT of little ones. Lots of dink whitebass also jumping around. Saw alot of people using slabhunters (orange, chartreuse) crappies. Me and my buddy ended the day with 2 wipers, 6 whitebass and 10 (10"+) crappies.
  11. Sorry to hear that man. That's prolly the worst fear when I out fishing, that when I come back I hope my car is in the same shape I left it. I have however seen some careless people that just leave their fishing poles hanging out of their truck beds while they fish down from the parking lot. It makes an easy grab for someone looking to steal something. Always lock up and dont trust anyone.
  12. so when is the gage height usually the best for fishing at the fence? when i went, it seemed to flow pretty fast so i moved down river and thats where everyone was catching. one guy pulled out some pretty big hybrids.
  13. Is the fence the one that has the no fishing sign? There only seemed to be gars there when i went, whos knows it was my first time.
  14. with all this rain is it still promising?
  15. are you on a boat or bank fishing? i was thinking of going here this weekend and trying it out. do most of the bank fishermen just fish below the darn?
  16. is there any bank fishing around this dam? i've never been to the dam, only to aldrich and high point.
  17. Look at that belly! Huge!
  18. wildhunter, where is tar creek? how many did you catch?
  19. nice job! looks like the weather this week will be prime for fishing.
  20. low discharge, warming temps should be decent if not good fishing for you then. good luck and report back if your catching them!
  21. i found that usually you have to be right on the spot at the bridge to catch anything. i was once next to a guy that got to the spot i was trying to fish before me and he caught fish. i was fishing close to him with the same bait and didnt catch any. some people just pull way too many out. most of the crappies dont even get that big, i say around 7-10" only. troutfishn - didnt know there was much white bass there. i've only managed to catch 1 in the past. but thanks for the spot, i'll try it when i get a chance.
  22. great! when your reports gives the "ok", i'll be there
  23. directions to this first bridge? heard about it but have never gone there.
  24. Awesome! That water looks like it dropped and the discharge is low. Too bad its the darn weekday, I really want to come try this place!
